9 Chapter 9: Evolution?

Gray pondered the plan. This act was risky enough, but there might not be another chance to find the Bug Fruit. Butterfree was currently distracted by the battle with Ekans and not keeping an eye on the tree. After some thought, he decided to go ahead with it. The profits were too good.

 He took Weedle in his arms and with quiet, careful steps he began to walk towards the tree, watching the pokémon battle. So far, they hadn't noticed him. Ekans was already in a very weakened state, so there wasn't much time left for Gray before Butterfree would return to his original task, protecting the tree and offspring. He got far enough away for Weedle's threads to reach the fruit. The Metapods paid no attention to Gray. Weedle used the String shot and carefully wrapped it around the raft, then pulled and ripped it off. But at the same moment, he obliged the painful scream of Ekans. Butterfree used Confusion, a psychic type technique that was super effective against Ekans. He lost consciousness. Butterfree turned around and noticed two intruders stealing the Bug Fruit that he wanted to feed to the most talented Caterpie from the next group. He was angry that this was the second time in a row someone had attacked his group.

Butterfree quickly approached them. Gray instantly ran in the direction of Butterfree's flight. An escape plan appeared in his mind. He got close enough distance and threw Weedle right at the flying Butterfree. The pokémon landed on the other and immediately used Electroweb on the trainer's orders. Weedle's special attack was small, and Butterfree's special defense was at a fairly high level. Still, the super effective technique did some damage, and most importantly. Lowered Butterfree's speed. The pokémon got even angrier. He threw the bug off of him and used Gust, a flying type technique. There was no way Weedle could dodge in the air, so the direct attack hit him. He fell hard against the ground. The pokémon's consciousness was lost.

Gray returned it to the pokéball. In that little time, he managed to run to Ekans and catch him in the pokéball. Weedle's main goal was to stall for time and weaken Butterfree's speed. Gray tore from that spot. The Pokémon flew after him. Because of the reduced speed, the Pokémon couldn't catch up with the man. he used Confusion. Gray's head sizzled violently and he fell down. Butterfree flew up to him. The ghostly energy in Gray's body began to activate and dispelled the effects of Confusion. Gray was very nervous, but now at least he could think through the situation without a headache. Butterfree screamed and a strong gust of wind flew at the trainer. Gray covered his face with his hands. the currents of air cut through Gray's skin and blood began to flow from his hands. 

"Electroweb's effects will soon wear off, then there's no way I'll be able to break away from the pursuit.... What should I do?" - Gray's thoughts were confused. His only pokémon was in no condition to fight. Ekans was also unconscious. Butterfree flew at him using Tackle. Gray decided to try and wound his wings. That way he would have a chance to break away. He reached for his knife with his hand, but didn't fumble for it on his belt. Bewilderment and consternation were evident on his face.While Gust was using it, the air currents cut the belt where the knife hung and it ended up on the ground. Gray became very angry.

"Bitch! Get off me!" - there was nothing left for him to do but try to fight the pokémon with his powers. Suddenly a ball of black formed in his palm and flew towards the approaching Butterfree. There was a small explosion and the pokémon was thrown back. The pokémon regained its balance in the air. The pokémon looked at the man in surprise. Gray was shocked for an hour, having just miraculously used a ghost-type Shadow Ball technique. Now Butterfree wasn't attacking mindlessly. He was watching his opponent's actions. Gray tried to concentrate the energy in the palm of his hand and to his joy, it worked. A small ball formed on his hand. He felt he could control its movement, albeit poorly. He looked at Butterfree with anger. The pokémon was using Gust again. His wings flapped violently and sharp streams of air flew at Gray. He met them with his gimmick. there was an explosion and both movements dissipated. 

Gray was now able to confront the pokémon. Their gazes met, neither one willing to back down. Butterfree used Confusion, a technique that never failed him. But Gray's ghostly energy was quietly developing the pokémon's psychic energy, as Ghost Type was super effective against Psychic Type. Butterfree watched in bewilderment as his technique somehow didn't work on this man. He was beginning to fear the trainer in front of him. Gray launched Shadow Ball again. Since using mental techniques was a great strain on the mind, especially for non-mental type pokémon, Butterfree was in some confusion and couldn't react normally for a few seconds.That was enough time for Gray's move to hit him. The pokémon fell to the ground. it was still conscious, but its wing was torn, making it unable to take off.Gray walked up close to the pokémon and fired Shadow Ball into its body a few more times. The pokémon's life signs disappeared.

Gray fell to the ground. His ghost energy was depleted and was slowly recovering. He looked at Butterfree's corpse. His wounds hurt, but the bleeding had already stopped. Still, Gray's new body after so much metamorphosis was strong enough to withstand some of the pokémon's weak attacks. He picked up the corpse and began to eat it. He didn't really like the taste of this butterfly, but he finished it off. He could feel his depleted energy replenishing and even getting stronger and bigger with each bite. Gray didn't know it yet, but all the cells in his body contained ghostly energy instead of the life force that is in everything in this world. Only ghost-type Pokémon had this phenomenon, as their entire bodies were made up of ghost energy. This was unnatural. A living being shouldn't have ghost-type energy. But still, Gray was able to do it. 

In the distorted dimension.

''I hope this person enjoyed my little gift...'' Arceus denied such an existence, but it's not hard for a great spellcaster like me to make a living being be able to control ghostly power. thank you for sharing it." - Said a small pink and purple Pokémon with rings on its horns.

"By the way, he even recovered that stone you left in the human world the last time you fought Arceus, Giratina. If I'm not mistaken, it contained your blood, didn't it? After all pokémon of the last form (Mega Evolution was the last form in ancient times) challenged Arceus, then he sealed all other ways of evolving pokémon. Now pokémon of all types are trained the same way. That's why I agreed to a deal with you and that man, Huppa. You said he could free us from our imprisonment." said the huge figure of Giratina in his menacing voice.

"Hehehehehe, believe me that man will bring no small amount of trouble to Arceus" said Hoopa with amusement.

Real World

*Butterfree's body has been consumed. The life force is turning into a ghostly force. The amount of energy increased.. The host's body has become stronger. Strength plus 2, Dexterity plus 1, Intelligence plus 4.*

Gray released Weedle from the Pokéball. The one finally regained consciousness. He could tell he was very upset. Tears were streaming from his eyes, over not being able to protect his parent. The coach began to calm her down.

"You did good, Weedle. you were able to hurt a pokémon much stronger than you. That's a huge accomplishment. no need to get upset." said Gray and stroked Weedle. He immediately changed in his face when he heard the praise. Gray took out a Bug Fruit and put it to Weedle.

"Eat it, it will make you stronger" said the Trainer. Weedle started to devour the Fruit. It was very tasty and in a few seconds there was no trace of it left. Weedle felt a huge increase of energy in his body. His body began to glow.

*Your pokémon has been consumed by the natural treasure, Bug Fruit... Your pokémon's level is rapidly increasing... Your pokémon's potential has been adjusted... Hidden damage has been repaired.. Its innate characteristics have increased... Health + 3, Attack + 2, Speed + 1, Special Defense + 2... The body became stronger. The final characteristic increased due to the absorption of the fruit... Attack + 3, Speed + 2, Special Defense + 2... Bug bite, String Shot and Electroweb +1... Weedle's evolutionary process has begun*.

Gray saw Weedle's body glow with a white light. After a few minutes, a huge Green Cocoon could be seen in Weedle's place. The Kakuna should be 60 centimeters tall, but Gray's Kakuna reached a height of 1.1 meters. With Gray's current height, the pokémon was up to his neck. The pokémon didn't move at all. Only its eyes gave it away as a living creature.

Kakuna stood motionless and did not make a sound. Her cocoon already contained cracks, which meant Beedrill would soon be ready to hatch. Gray knew that the pokémon couldn't move now, so he placed it in a Pokéball for now. Now, all he would do was feed his pokémon and wait for it to evolve again. With all his business taken care of, Gray headed back to his captains. They were waiting for him at the same spot. Gray noticed the Kazumo standing off to the side and chatting with Pidgey. It looked like he had managed to gain trust with the pokémon. He walked over to his second captain and handed him a pokeball with Ekans.

"William, this is where Ekans is located. It has good potential, so it's a good pokémon to train. But be careful of Ekans' temperament. They are aggressive in nature. It's up to you to figure out a way to find a way to approach him" - Gray didn't care if William could handle it. He could always remove his captain status and give that pokéball to someone else if he failed at taming the pokémon.

"Thank you, Leader Gray. I guarantee that I will raise this pokémon to serve you with me and complete missions." - William bowed to Gray.

 William thought this was a joke when Gray agreed to catch Ekans for him. Arbok's species spec is 448, almost 450. He can also learn many bite techniques such as Fire fang, Ice fang, Thunder fang. Which makes his attack set suitable, for fighting multiple types. Many beginner trainers would like to have him as their first pokémon. The only problem is the character of Ekans. Most trainers simply die of poison when trying to gain their trust. Ekans are loners by nature. They rarely hunt in a pack. It is only when a female and male meet that they may begin traveling together to leave offspring.

All three of them traveled back to the slums, back to their base.
