1 New world

Arthur was a man who had lived a short and hard life. He had suffered beyond belief, having seen his entire family die in a car crash that he had caused. After the death of his wife and 3-year-old daughter, he fell into a deep depression. To escape his depression and pain, he would read books and watch shows. He would sit on his couch for hours on end, binge-watching anything he could get his hands on, and reading any book that made him forget about reality.

His favorite shows were medieval shows like "The Last Kingdom" and "Vikings" because they depicted the reality of how people used to suffer daily. Because of this fact, Arthur would watch them over and over again every time he couldn't find anything new to watch.

And that's what Arthur was doing now. He was sitting on his couch covered by a blanket, watching the "Vikings" series for the 7th time.

POV: ARTHUR.

I was watching the first season of "Vikings," the episode where Ragnar and his band of friends travel to England for the first time.

"Sigh, I swear it doesn't matter how many times I watch this series. It's obvious as daylight that Rollo hates Ragnar," said Arthur.

Every time I watch this part where they go to England for the first time, it floods my body with adrenaline. To take a boat to a place you've only heard of from strangers and travelers must be an adventure.

'What I would give to be in that world.'

"Sigh."

I kept watching the episode when I felt my phone vibrate under the blankets.

"Weird, I thought I put my phone on silent."

I took my phone from under the blanket and saw that the screen was on. Looking at the notification, I saw that I had received an email from someone. I opened my phone and looked at the email.

"Chuckled."

"If you could choose to live in any world, would you?" What is this crazy survey?"

I looked at it for a while and pressed the "yes" button.

"Let's see what this is about." I took the remote and pressed pause on the TV.

I looked at the survey, and it was almost like a job interview.

"What world would you want to go to?" I looked at the TV and typed "Vikings."

"Imagine if this was real. Pff, who am I kidding? It's impossible." I looked at the next question.

"Would you like to be a Saxon or a Northman?" Let's see, Saxon or Viking. I mean, normally I would choose Viking, but what the heck, let's go with Saxon.

"If you could choose three abilities, what would they be?" Hmm, this is a tricky question. What would be good in a medieval world? I thought about it for a while when I came to a conclusion.

Super Soldier Serum.

Absolute Weapons Mastery.

All-Speak.

"I'm oddly invested in this survey, mainly because I've thought of this kind of scenario before."

"Sigh, whatever, it's not like it's real." I went on to press "confirm," and when I did, my phone screen went black. I pressed it a couple of times to see if it was okay.

"Ugh, did I actually get hacked?" I looked my phone over.

"Maybe it needs charging." I got off the couch, and when I was about to walk towards the room where my charger was, everything went black.

---------------------------------------------

"Ugh," Arthur groaned, his head throbbing. "What's with this headache?"

As the light in the room gradually brightened, Arthur woke up groggily and realized he was no longer on his couch but in a completely different environment. He slowly opened his eyes and saw an unfamiliar ceiling made of wooden beams.

"What the fuck?" said a child-like voice.

"Wait, my voice..." He sat up and, to his surprise, saw that he was now a child. He looked down at his hands, which were small and thin, and he realized that he had somehow possessed a child's body.

"How the hell is this possible? And what's up with my accent?"

"Wait, first let's calm down and think. What happened before all of this?"

"I was filling out that survey... No way! If that's the case, then I can't be in the world of Vikings. That's impossible. But then again, me being in a child's body is absurd too."

Arthur quickly stood up and began to take in his surroundings. The room he was in was small, with a single wooden bed, a wooden chest, and a small window that let in a bit of sunlight. The walls were made of stone, and the air was musty and cold.

"Ugh, this place smells bad. Talk about bad hygiene." Just when I wanted to look around more, I got a splitting headache.

"UGH!"

He fell to his knees, seeing images and flashes. When the headache was gone, everything became ten times more complicated.

"So, you aren't some normal peasant boy. SHIT." You may be wondering why I'm cursing so much; well, let me clear the air.

'My name, or well, the name of this body is Arthur of Northumbria, the firstborn son of the late king, King Osberht of Northumbria. He was on the line to inherit the throne after the king's death, even though he, or I, was 10 at the time. But because of this body's uncle, Aela usurping him, he had to flee with the help of some of his household guards who were all killed. Apparently, I survived, or this body did, for two years in the streets and forest. But that was also short-lived because of Original Arthur (that's what I'm calling old Arthur) cutting himself on a tree branch, and because he didn't know how to tend to wounds, his wound got infected, and he almost died. But luckily, he stumbled upon a monastery close to a beach only to pass out.'

He sighed. "Shit just got real, didn't it?"

Arthur heard a knock on the door as he tried to make sense of what was happening.
