Chapter 28

After the knife had cut through the wood, the handle of the hilt had become embedded inside of it, cutting cleanly through Yuri's trousers as well as slicing open his chest cavity, spilling the contents of his pockets and his body on the carpet beneath him. However, Yuuri's cries and pleas for him to stop doing such horrendous things had only been met with an icy glare, which soon faded into a wide smirk. It was as if he had finally taken control of his own emotions once more, and had regained complete mastery of them once again.

Victor, who had witnessed everything that had happened between the two of them, couldn't help but wonder what on earth Yuri would do next. From what he had seen earlier, he had managed to cut Yuri's trousers right down the backside and expose most of his skin, exposing most of the inner workings of his body as well as several long, jagged scars which were crisscrossing across his abdomen. The scars ran throughout his torso and arms, covering every inch of exposed flesh, making it impossible to tell where one ended and the other began. The majority of the scars were white, however some of them were blackened, showing how much damage that he had suffered from his fall down the stairs. Most of the wounds he'd seen, he'd never had a chance to examine properly before. The injuries looked rather painful and the amount of blood covering Yuri's lower half made Victor worried. If he was able to continue doing so, his body would certainly suffer more severe consequences. That was assuming that Yuuri was also able to heal him, but there was no telling what kind of injuries he'd sustained, especially since the blood covering his upper body was starting to dry up and become hard, causing the blood vessels to stick together. There was also the possibility that he wouldn't recover completely because of the injuries, although they seemed to be getting worse rather than better. The only real option was to try to save him now, even though the chances of that happening in the current state he was in were slim to none. However, there wasn't anything else that Victor could do except stand there and watch in silence, waiting for Yuri to finish healing the wound inflicted by the knife.

Yuuri sat on the floor, leaning his body against the wall and his legs stretched out in front of him. His breathing was shaky, but he still refused to move away from his position against the wall and refused to allow anyone else to touch him. Even though he knew that he was still weak, he refused to let the pain from earlier consume him again. His thoughts raced, filling his mind with different thoughts. He was afraid and confused as to why Yuri had attacked him. All he wanted was to find out more about what had gone wrong and why Yuri had been forced to change so much. Wasn't this supposed to be the happiest time for both of them? And wasn't this the time when everything was supposed to go according to plan? How was it possible that the happy future that he so loved and cherished was currently turned upside down? It wasn't fair. It really wasn't fair! It just wasn't!

As he continued to dwell in his sorrowful thoughts, he eventually heard the sound of footsteps approaching and was immediately greeted by the sight of the Officer of the Year, the one who had spoken to Yuri earlier, walking toward him. "Well, I have bad news and good news," the Officer informed Yuuri, his eyes full of sympathy as he said, "The bad news is that he seems pretty badly injured, considering the state in which he was found. Apparently, he fell down a flight of stairs while on patrol a week ago, and has been stuck in a coma for almost the entire time he has been here."

"That... can't be! What happened? Why did he attack me like that? How could he have possibly survived those circumstances? How could he possibly have escaped that fall!? Surely you must understand, this is impossible!" exclaimed Yuuri, desperate to understand the situation that had led to Yuri being thrown into a hospital and having to undergo surgery, not to mention the fact that he hadn't left his room in three days straight.

The officer nodded in agreement before saying, "Unfortunately, I'm afraid it is true that we haven't been able to find out anything yet. After you were brought here from your cell, you were rushed straight to the infirmary, where doctors examined you for hours as to make sure that you weren't seriously injured. We did manage to get a little bit of information out of the guards and other prisoners who had previously known of your whereabouts and that you were involved in a fight, however, they've kept the details of that fight quite low key. But they've confirmed what I'm going to say anyways, so I suppose that doesn't matter anymore anyway. Regardless, as the guard that helped bring you here mentioned, it seems that he believes that you may have somehow triggered a chain reaction in which the prisoner that had just killed the previous guard, along with all the prisoners that he had been hiding in the prison, have been released. The reason that they were kept in there and not in any of the cells in the prison is because the people living in those cells are considered dangerous criminals, as the police officers have been informed.
