1 Victorian Diaries/ Chapter One

~Day Dream~

I watch this handsome stranger  put his hand out and ask," May I have this dance miss?"

Grabbing his hand he twirls me and dips me back.

I realize I'm in a large ballroom, with people surrounding the room.

I place my attention back on the handsome stranger.

Our eyes lock and he leans in for a kiss....

~Back to Reality~

"Lillian! LILLIAN!" my sister shouts.

"I've been calling you name for five minutes, what could you possibly been day dreaming about that took your focus for that long!?"

I shrug," I'm sorry I got lost in the book and well..."

"I don't honestly care, but something I do care about is your future!" She yells again.

"I know Mary, get the queens blessing then go to as many balls during the spring season and the get married, I've know the plan since I was child," I say with a bit of attitude.

She walks over to me and starts brushing my hair. I set  down my book on the vanity. "You need to help support our family, I can't do it on my own."

I knew what she meant I had to marry as soon as I could, but only marry a man with a title and money so I could support my two younger brothers. My mother and father passed away in a fire six years ago and my sister hasn't been the same since. She pushes my hard, really hard. But I understand her concern and worry, I mean she was in the house when the fire happened but she was the only one out alive.

My younger brothers and I were at out Aunt Judith's house the night of the fire, and my sister demanded that she stayed with my parents that night. And it's not like we knew it was gonna happen.

"Oww that hurt!" I spat out as Mary tugs at my hair and then begins to braid it.

I try and pull away but her grasp was to tight on my hair.  She finishes by tying a ribbon at the end of the braid.

"Lovely, now sister you must get ready, we have many things to do today," Mary says eyeing my hair like it belonged in a art gallery.

I nodded. "I'll have the ladies bring in your new dress and shoes, they just came in!" She said jumping up and down with glee.

I get up and show my sister away. A few minutes after she left two hand maids walked in carrying a dress box as well as a shoe box.

They begin to undress me being carful not to mess up my braid. They pull out the dress and lay it on the table. I run my hand over the pearls the line the collar of the dress. The lace around the  sleeves were lovely.

I had already had my chemise and my drawers on which was the only presentable way to appear in front of your staff. My hand maid plus my sisters had came in here to attend me. Mine, Lucy helped my put on my corset making sure not to pull it to tight to where I couldn't breathe because if my sister was in here she would make to where I would pass out.

After putting on my corset my sisters hand maid brought my petticoat and helped me into it. Honestly I see no need for a hand maid besides the fact I need help putting on my corset. After we straighten it out they put on a not so bulky hoop skirt.

After putting on the over excessive amount of clothing they finally helped me put on the dress.

It was exquisite and gorgeous but I didn't think it looked good on me. But I guess I have no choice.

They grabs some pins and pin my braid into a low bun but leave some strands out to frame my face. I put on my pearl earrings and necklace that were my grandmothers. They have me sit and slide my stockings on each side.

They pull out the most beautiful shoes that I thought I have every seen and well I have seen a lot. They slide them on my feet being carful not to hurt me.

I stand up and walk over to the mirror, I do a slow spin admiring the dress as well as the shoes. I looked at the dress better as I came closer towards the mirror. The dress had small pearls hanging head to toe, the lace around the collar and the shoulders draped down and framed my body so perfectly. I loved the dress but the shoes were about three inches tall and had lace covering them completely, and in the middle of the shoe was a white little bow that just pulled it all together. The shoes were so uncomfortable but I have to toughen up because beauty is pain and in my society a women should look lovely, elegant and beautiful.
