Chapter 2

When school was over everyone headed to their homes. Dawn's friends owned cars and she always had to lend someone to give her a car so she could keep up with her friends' lifestyle. She was not like the rest of her friends. She wasn't as rich as them.

"I know Max." She whined over the phone as she struggled with the door knob trying to get inside their house.

"I'll pay you the rest of the money next Tuesday. Believe it or not I am so broke right now. Okay bye."

She hang up and threw her bag on the sofa and laid on it calmly.

"How was school today Dawn?" Her mother Leslie who held a laundry basket asked as soon as she saw her walk in.

"Normal."

"Just normal?" Leslie asked as she put her laundry basket on the floor.

"Mum..just drop it. I already told you school was fine. What more do you wanna hear?" Dawn blathered as she went for the fridge.

"Um... perhaps you might've something you wanna share with me. Something like um...boys.."Leslie was always curious to know the love life of her daughter.

"Sorry...no boys yet."Dawn said as she bit an apple.

"But why?" Leslie whined.

"No reason."

Leslie then approached her and pat her back and nervously said to her, "You know... I'll accept you for who ever you are. I know you are not ready to tell me about your love life but it's okay."

Dawn knew exactly what her mother meant. She read her thoughts.

"Goodness mum! I'm not gay!"

"I'm not saying you are either. I'm just curious."

"Well am sorry but your curiosity isn't justified."

On her way upstairs she paused for a while and turned back to face her mother who was still in the living room.

"By the way...Hazel invited me over to her house for barbecue night. Can I go?"

"Is it the same Hazel whose daddy directed Cry Me A RIver movie?" Leslie was in awe.

"Yes." Dawn nodded.

"Okay...but don't come back before midnight."

"And...I was hoping you'd add me some cash...you see I don't have any money with me right now." Dawn hoped her pleas would be heard.

"Dawn Grace Anderson! What happened to the money I gave you a few days ago?" Leslie was in shock of the news Dawn told her.

"I used it all to pay Max and he's still pouncing on me. I'm not yet done paying him."

"Why do you even borrow his car anyway? You have your bike you can ride to school.plus you can also take a taxi to school." Leslie was disappointed in her.

"Mum..you don't get it."

"Then make me understand."

"I just wanna know if I can count on you or not. Hazel's gonna get mad at me if I don't make it at her party." She whined.

"Honey..I don't have that any cash right now. You know I..."

"Never mind." Dawn cut her short and grabbed her bag from the stair case.

Leslie couldn't understand her daughter's wild behavior and why she wanted so much cash at a go.

"By the way... Victoria said hello and...."

Dawn shut the door on her.
