258 CHAPTER 258: Why Did You Promise?

Stormie could only hug Willow.

"We fought no matter how much we cry the night before... the day before... we still fight..."

Saphira wiped her face, "You..."

She breathed, "You all are having your own peace. Enjoying your own lives. But just because of a stupid paper... stupid ink... all of us..."

She pointed towards her friends who are crying as well, "All of us were tied down... chained into this stupid mission where we are supposed to keep losing..."

She once again looked around her, "Losing our time... losing some loved ones.... losing our youth... while you all enjoy yourselves..."

She once again laughed.

She was crying, laughing and getting mad.

She felt like she was going crazy.

"So what right do you have? To preach? To make us do whatever you please? What right?"

They all looked away.

She returned her look on Elizabeth and asked like a broken recorder, repeating her question over and over again.

"Why are you asking for more?"

She pointed at her chest, "Should our hearts be ripped out as well just to save this world? Just so all of you will be contented?"

Saphira didn't like this one bit.

She didn't like the fact that things she didn't know was there were flowing out right now.

But she couldn't stop, now that she had started, she couldn't stop.

"Do you think we never asked these questions? Why must we do so much since childhood?"

Stormie and Willow cried harder because they also have all these thoughts in the past.

No, not just the past but the present as well.

"Our life was taken away from us because of our duty. We didn't complain and thought of it as something inevitable but then why is it that we have to hold more? To accommodate you more?"

Elizabeth's tears were gone, how can she keep crying when the person in front of her was obviously suffering even more.

"How many kingdoms and empires have looked down upon us? Have seen us as nothing but weapons in this war?"

Their families felt guilty as she talk about this and they listen.

Willow and Stormie were now on their knees as well.

Because the words they were all keeping to themselves was already said by Saphira.

The boys were the same, no longer simply tearing up but were already crying.

The whole world could feel grief for them.

Those they befriended and those who expect so much from them.

Especially their Empire who only saw them as heroes that needs to eradicate the darkness.

Some teared up seeing her crying so much.

Most of which was her family.

She hit her chest, "It hurts so much. Do you really think we were made of stone? How much tears have they shed?"

She once again gestured towards the rest, "How much pain did they endure all through this time? How we have to get back at our feet... a few months after losing our beloveds?"

She laughed again, "We were eight. For pete's sake we were eight. We were children... yet we have to act like adults..."

Reginald and the rest of the heads felt even more guilty, they were all so focused on the duty back then.

They were so sure that their family would understand and accept it as it is.

But now, after the year that passed and they witnessed and heard what these seven had to experience, the guilt came flooding in.

That they were failures as adults and most of all as the family.

Saphira once again wiped her tears.

"Why can't we be selfish? Why can't we be selfish and beg... Please don't ask so much from us... Because we are all humans with a heart that gets hurt, a mind that gets tired and a body that is riddled with wounds. We are not machines or simply weapons, there's blood flowing in our veins just like in yours. And this damn tears that you also have. We are young and we are only humans. We breakdown when all of you are not seeing it. Please keep that in mind..."

She took deep breaths because it felt like she was lacking some air.

Then her tearful eyes looked directly at Elizabeth, gone was the anger but instead replaced with pleading.

"I just want to be alone, that's all I asked because I am at my limit. But you just have to come and beg me as if I have to let it go. Why?"

Elizabeth was so lost with words.

"You can't remember anything but they are here. Your family is here, you will surely feel the warmth from them. You have so many people with you. So why? Why are you selfishly asking me for my last strength?"

Saphira kept crying and her tone turned to begging.

"Please don't ask such a thing from me..."

Saphira returned the words of begging to Elizabeth.

"I will surely go insane," she followed before she was enveloped into a gentle embrace.

"I'm sorry."

Saphira cried even more after hearing his voice.

"Don't leave me alone," she cried as she held on to him.

Hunter gritted his teeth at the sight of her tears and her begging tone.

"I don't know what else to do. I tried to rest and keep calm but why am I being asked to let you go? Why?"

"I'm sorry," Hunter sincerely said.

Saphira shook her head, "It hurts so much. I'm jealous."

She laughed while crying.

"I told myself I will be fine. But it was persistent, it hurts Hunter. It hurts damn much... that you weren't there when I needed you."

"I'm sorry."

Hunter had no other words, seeing her in so much pain.

Seeing her break down.

He has no other words.

"Why did you promise?" Saphira asked looking at his eyes.

"Why?"

"I'll never leave your side again. Not now, not ever. No matter who asked me, I won't. I'll stay beside you."

Hunter said with determination as he held her in his arms as she cried more in pain.
