254 CHAPTER 254: Please Don't Take Him Away

Ridge really didn't want to say it but his anger was already at its limit.

"When she was hit a while ago and turned around, did you know what she looked like? She was hurt completely because she had trusted your words. But you neglected that because of that stupid past!!!"

After shouting at him, Ridge harrumphed and turned to leave.

The rest snapped out of their shock and left as well.

They didn't see Saphira's reaction when she was hurt but with the way Ridge snapped, it must have been of genuine shock and pain.

She always trusted that Hunter would be there behind her but on that particular moment he was not.

They may hold the mythological beast, but that doesn't mean they are invincible against too many of enemies.

Hunter was left there.

He glanced down at Elizabeth.

"Hunter?" she spoke in that same meek voice.

"Please, I want to rest," he said pulling away from her.

Understanding now the reason behind the changes in Saphira's attitude, he felt his heart tightening even further.

What was he doing?

When Ridge spoke about Elise, he felt like he really was stupid.

"Hu- Hunter, please don't... go..." Elizabeth called.

He looked back at her, "The people in here won't do anything. They are from your Empire. And they are trusted by your father, if you still felt like you are in danger then stay in the room they gave you."

Gone was his normal gentle and careful approach, it instead became distant.

Elizabeth's heart felt like it was being pierced through by thousands of knives, seeing Hunter's eyes looking at her with indifference.

But Hunter could careless, he was just given a hard slap.

Even though the memory of Elise kept coming back to him.

That one girl whom he wanted to take away from that place but chose to stay for the others.

That one girl who looked strong but he could see the fear in her eyes.

That one particular girl who was in a pool of blood when he returned not long after.

Yet the memory of Saphira's bloody back was even more terrifying to him now.

Much more than he could ever imagine.

He walked away from that place and walked towards the forest to think on his own.

He arrived at a river bank where he chose to sit simply staring at the running water.

The wound in her back and Ridge's words.

It means that she had received it a while ago while he was busy protecting Elizabeth.

She trusted he would be there even if someone were to sneak behind her.

But her trust was betrayed when he wasn't there and she was hurt.

He covered his face, "What the hell was I doing?"

He promised to be there for her, to be her support.

He promised that he will never let her get hurt again without putting up a fight.

But what is this?

"That's right, what are you doing?"

He looked up to see his eight year old self.

"What was that promise we made back then?"

The child was angrily looking at him.

"Why is she hurt now when you are SO CLOSE ONCE AGAIN!!!"

"I'm sorry," he spoke.

"Sorry? She was badly hurt right in front of you without you knowing that it happened. WHAT SORRY ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!?!"

Hunter looked away.

"We agreed that we will protect her. That the past will stay there but just because of an apparition you have forgotten that promise," the child continued berating him.

"What right do you have to say that you love her? What right do you have to say that you will be there for her no matter what? Elise died and there's nothing we could do about that. But there is something you can do right now, yet here you are being stupidly moved by your own past."

Hunter looked back at the child when he came close to him, rage swimming in his eyes.

"If she is to be hurt once again, then just forget your feelings for her. Because if you truly love her, you will never lose sight of her."

Just like that he disappeared.

Hunter clenched his hands into fists.

He trained so hard in order to protect her.

He vowed to become stronger in order to protect her.

What vow, what promises?

"Damn it!!!"

*****

Saphira had just finished treating her back wound, with the help of Lily.

"Such weak body we have, couldn't even be helped to heal," Saphira commented.

"Everything has its negativity after all," Lily replied, nodding to herself as she looked at her work.

"Am I supposed to explode now?" Saphira looked at her.

She can feel just how much pent up negative emotions she was having.

The little leeway that she could have had was already long passed.

Lily had on a sad smile, "If you keep it in then your light ability would weaken with time. But if you can resolve it without exploding, it will be fine as well."

All along, Saphira had been showing her negative emotions in order to not suppress the light ability inside her.

But resolving the issue behind her negative emotion was something she haven't truly tried because all she did was to show.

"I don't think I would be able to do that though," Saphira replied

Their current duty is to protect this princess of this Kingdom, how will she resolve it?

By hastening their travel in order to get her home faster?

Or by telling Hunter she hated it? That he should stay away from Elizabeth?

Lily returned to her when they felt someone outside her door.

One of her brows raised when she saw who it was.

"What can I do for you princess?" she asked.

Elizabeth bit her lower lip before looking up at her.

"Please... Please don't take him away... I can't trust anyone other than him..."

Big tear drops dropped from her eyes making her look even more pitiful.
