The Mold (7)

Chapter 29 – The Mold (7)

"Midnight Slash."

Otis' voice was gentle and composed, devoid of any form of doubt as he knew what he wanted to do and what he would achieve from that singular slash.

A lucid mental image of this was formed in the mind of the young Vernon. However, it did not come to manifest as he envisioned it.

Looking at the outcome of his attack, it was a typical case of 'What One Ordered' versus 'What They Got'.

"Tch," he snorted, massaging his forehead with the blade still in his grasp.

"Augmenting my Sword Technique with my Skill is really going to be a difficult task. Well, at least there's some compatibility. So it's possible."

He looked at the sight before him and he had only managed to kill a measly number of the undead, considering the amount of energy he generated.

The thought was clear and defined in his head.

However, the precision of his technique wavered, leading to a poorer outcome.

In a mid to combine his Skill with his Vernon Sword Style, Otis had only succeeded in making his Family Sword Style more unstable than stable.

He could only determine the power of his attack.

He couldn't control the accuracy, speed or attainable distance of his strike.

He sighed in his heart and looked at his hand, examining the two of them for any damages from his attack.

Luckily enough, he received none.

'It's still going to take a while before I can do it the way Big Bro does it.'

Looking onward, his face became tinge with a little bit of worry as more and more of the undead revealed themselves.

Otis instinctively gulped and flashed a grin at his numerous opponents.

"Well, you gonna have to catch me if you want me," he said to them before dashing away in another direction.

The undead mindlessly followed after him, their bloodshot eyes constantly locked on their target.

Given out thoughtless these creatures were, it was not surprising that they couldn't put a few things together to make sense.

Thus, they were willingly falling into Otis' trap by following him.

My eyes flashed open and glanced around the inside of the house that I was in.

Fortunately, there were no undead in sight yet and that gave me some time to do whatever I wanted.

I had rested my body but I still couldn't use any Skills yet or manipulate any ounce of Essence.

The drawbacks of the constant usage of these Skills was indeed disarming.

Nonetheless, this was not going to stop me from moving forward.

The Undead Race of this Level 0 Challenge was weak after all. If I could endure long enough, I could easily deal with them.

I got up from where I sat and looked around the house.

A bright idea had popped up in my mind as I tried to rest and hope that I would find the things I needed for it.

"Baking soda. Sugar…"

I repeated a list of things that I would need as I searched the house for them.

After some minutes of searching…

"Tch, just sugar and this are here," I muttered in disappointment as I looked at the two packs in my hand.

I set them up on a nearby table and looked at the two items for a bit longer while massaging my chin.

"This won't do," I sighed.

I walked out of the house into the open and looked around, noticing that every building in this area looked like where people once had homes even though all were abandoned.

"I should be able to find the rest in one of these places."

Hastening my steps before the enemy arrives in this region, I went through the first set of houses.

Inside a few of them, I found similar items that I already had.

In another, I found one of those that I had not acquired yet.

In some others, I found nothing on my list.

But all in all, none of these houses left me with absolutely nothing at all.

I might not have found the things I wanted before I got other things that would be somewhat useful in this journey.

Metals. Rakes and different tools. Used sprays and cans and whatnot.

Each one would come in handy in their own way but for now, I was going to focus on my most important weapon.

After almost half an hour of searching the houses, I hurried back to the original house where I had stayed.

In the distance, I could already see the first set of them who were ahead of the rest approaching this area.

I took a deep breath and hastened with my preparations.

With a reasonable amount of everything that I needed now gathered, it was only a matter of time and how fast I could be with these limited resources.

"These two certainly are impressive," Eric said, pointing at the faces of Otis Vernon and Lucas Enstar.

"Somehow they have managed to distinguish themselves from the rest. What do you think, German?"

German looked at his deputy and then at the screen before shrugging.

"Nothing actually. They are nothing special. At least I can't say that until they impress me in a real challenge."

Eric turned his face slightly away from his superior and snorted, "And they say I'm the difficult one."

"What's that?" German asked.

"Nothing," Eric answered with a fake smile.

"Regardless, to stand out like this. Either this batch is that bad or these two are just better."

German put his hand into his cloth and took out a transparent vial which contained a purplish liquid.

Tap~

A slight noise echoed as the container touched the table.

"Well, because I'm feeling benevolent today, give this to whoever comes out on top. It's worth 18 Essence, so it will be useless for their amateur asses."

After sliding the container to Eric, German stood up and adjusted his cloth before stepping out of the room.

"I have long minutes of endless argument to catch up with the higher-ups. Take care of things here, Eric."

"Yes sir."
