Chapter 02:  Testing(02)

Arriving on their floor the doors opened and they stepped out into a waiting room with rows of chairs with a few families already seated waiting for their turn to get their children tested.

Lina looked around rubbing her chin. "Hmmm. It's been years since I was last here. I'm trying to remember… Oh, room 2 is over this way I think." she pointed to the left towards a hallway. There were 4 rooms on each side of the hallway numbered 1 thru 8. 

Keme glanced at his wife out of the corner of his eye saying, "Are you sure?" Lina continued looking in the direction of the hallway.  "Yeah of c… HaHa, very funny." 

Kai took off running in the direction his mother had pointed while looking at the signs above the doors wishing he could read. He stopped at the first door on the left and while pointing at it. "Is it…" 

Before he could finish what he was saying he heard a familiar voice behind.  "Kai what are you doing running off like that?"

The little boy froze for a moment as recognition etched itself onto his face. Turning around he yelled, "AMÁ SÁNI!!!" and ran towards Mai who was standing in the doorway across the hall. 

Embracing Kai she said, "Shíyázhí I missed you so much. Hey, after this do you want to get some ice cream?" The little boy's eyes sparkled for a moment before his head drooped and he replied, "But, Sáni it's snowing. It's too cold for ice cream." 

His grandma dressed in a red compression suit with black highlights looked at him and lifted his chin with two fingers so that their eyes met. 

With a mischievous grin on her face. "Oh, Kai didn't Mommy and Daddy tell you? If it's winter here then it's summer in Brazil." 

Kai grinned from ear to ear. His head spun to his left, eyes seemingly as wide as saucers."We're going to Brazil for ice cream!".

Lina looked at her mother and pouted. "Mom please don't spoil him too much."

Mia looked at her responding, "Listen dear, I have two jobs in this world. Protect the populace and spoil my grandchild. Guess which one I'm planning to do today."

Lina sighed.  "Fine. Kai, after the test you can go to Brazil with Grandma, but you have to be home before bedtime.".

"YES!!!" Kai yelled as he leaped up while raising his tiny fists into the air.

From inside the room a young child's voice was heard saying, "Grandpa, can we go get ice cream too?". Followed by a deep stoic voice. "Yes, John. We should have time to go down to Brazil after we're done here. We should drop your coat off at the house first though." 

Kai looked past his grandmother into the room where he saw a tall muscular man appearing to be in his early 30's wearing a gray and blue compression suit with dark brown hair cut into a crew cut. Beside him stood a smiling child with similar facial features, an identical haircut and bearing pale blue eyes and a beaming smile. He was dressed in a pair of khaki pants and black coat with a green shirt underneath. 

Mai looked at her daughter and smiled. "See, John gets ice cream." Then she took Kai's hand leading him into the room with his parents following close behind. Walking up to the man she struck his shoulder.  "I know the perfect place in Rio. They've got 52 flavors. So any idea when the tech is supposed to get here?".

He turned and looked towards the door. "That should be them coming right now.".

A man looking to be in his 50's standing 170 cm dressed in a dark blue suit with a sky blue shirt and black cotton tie with a well muscled build.  His eyes ruined the average looks of his face as they were an almost luminescent pure golden hue. His dark brown skin further exacerbated the illusion that his eyes were glowing. 

The man smiled as he held up a tablet. "Supreme, Bloodwind, it's been a while.. I see your grandsons are both getting tested today. Glad I could be here for this."

 Mai looked at the man. "I thought you retired last year? I mean… I'm glad to see you Matt. Shouldn't you be on a beach somewhere with your wife?". 

Matt looked at his tablet and initiated the cameras in the room to record the results and set the system to auto save the results in their servers. Then smiled as he looked at Mai. "That's the end of this year. So is Mr. John Clarkson ready to see what his attunement talent is like?". 

John walked forward towards Matt and standing in front of him he nervously held out his hand. "Ok. I'm ready." with a look of resolve on his face. 

Matt took a pair of surgical gloves out of his suit pocket. Then he pulled a clear crystal shaped like a large marble out of his pants pocket and held it over the boy's trembling hand. 

He spoke towards the tablet, "Begin recording. Citizen John Clarkson Attunement test record time 15 seconds. Initiate.". He then set the orb on John's hand and moved his hand away. After a few seconds a glow began to emit from the crystal.

Over the next 10 seconds it grew brighter and brighter shooting forth golden light mixed with a gray light so bright it painted the room in its hue. Matt just stood there mouth agape for a moment. A huge smile plastered on the face of every other adult in the room. Kai, just like the other boy, stared in amazement at the brightly glowing orb in John's hand.  

The man quickly composed himself and picked back up the orb after clearing his throat. He looked around the room and smiled.  "Well I guess it just runs in the family. John here seems to have a S+ dual element metal and light attunement. Congratulations young man." his eyes stopping on John. 

The boy blinked a few times, stuttered.  "Bu… B..But Dad said Grandpa is S+..."

He turned his head looking at Supreme. "Grandpa, I'll be able to get ICE CREAM ON MY OWN!!!!". He started hopping in place joyfully. 

Kai came up to them. "Can I come too?" 

John stopped hopping, stood there a moment, and smiled even bigger. "Only if we're friends…".

The other 3 year old stood there puffed up his tiny chest.  "We can be friends. We can go hero when we're big like my mom and dad."

John looked at the two adults in question then turned back. "Deal. We can go hero together after we awake.".
