"Lex needs to be stopped before this gets out of hand, before he leads Darkseid back to earth using technology humans have no business messing around with." He stopped and took a deep breath to calm himself, finally noticing the rise in his tone. 

The memories of the destruction brought upon earth that night played in his head like flashbacks. 

"Don't worry, the League won't let that tragedy repeat itself. But we can't go for Lex directly until he makes a move he won't be able to mask from the public. If we do, we'll seal the branding placed on us as enemies of the United States and the world." He clarified the reason why Lex hadn't gotten a violent visit from the Bat yet. 

It was risky going head on to confront Lex because they never know when they might just walk right into another one of his traps. 

"I understand but sometimes I just feel like flying over to his office and apprehending him."  He paused for a while before letting out a sigh as he continued. "Then again, It would just end up looking like a threat against a presidential candidate if it was somehow caught on camera and leaked to the media." 

"True, Lex has members of the League walking on eggshells. We are trying to avoid getting caught up in another scandal which could shatter the little trust the civilians still have in us." Batman elaborated. 

"Okay, so what are we going to do about Ace who is going about doing as he pleases? Acting like he's above the law itself." Green Lantern asked Batman who held an intimidating stare for a few seconds before responding. 

"Ace is too unpredictable for us to direct our attention at him, let's focus on stopping Lex and averting this crisis." Batman said as he practically shrugged the Ace topic beneath the rug for the moment. He has tried doing his homework on Ace but he never comes back with positive results. 

He's had Barbara take a deep dive into the net and the dark web also in search for information relating to Ace's true identity hoping someone knew because he also accepted jobs as a mercenary. But sadly no one seemed to know who he was. 

So he decided to focus his time and energy into strategizing a counter against the fate Lex has bestowed upon humanity.
