29 29 A harbinger of evil

Kahlan ran over to Aurora's room and barged in without a knock. "You really are turning this into a habit. Barging in on me" Aurora said as she raised her head to look at Kahlan. "I'm sorry but you've got a matter at hand. Diana sent away sir Owen and other knights to the temple of elvara".

"And thar affects me how?" Aurora asked nonchalantly. "Well you said you are here to help, so it should affect you" Kahlan responded. "Oh I see. Because Owen is a part of this huh" Aurora said smiling mischievously.

"I can't believe you actually think this is about Owen"

"Why shouldn't I?, I mean he is your lover"

Kahlan hit her hand on Aurora's table "listen Aurora, those knights on that secret quest or whatever are the strongest knights in Darca and we can't lose them" just then she notices that Aurora what preparing something before she walked in. "What is this?"

"Nothing that affects you negatively. I have a lot on my hand right now so find a way to take care of your lover and his party. And hey, whatever you do, I need you here. You can send other knights on that rescue mission with these" she gives her an arrow and a small bottle of some magical liquid "now if you'll excuse me, your little queen needs rescuing".

Kahlan did as Aurora instructed her. Soon they sent off Torren and Louisa to King Luther and decided to figure out how to save Diana. "I don't understand why it has to be Lady Diana all the time" Kahlan lamented as she was sitting with Aurora. "The weakness in her heart is the reason. Qarinah knew that and that is why she uses her whenever" Aurora replied.

"That thing you were preparing yesterday, what was it for?"

"An antidote, don't ask me what it's for okay, I told you it doesn't affect you or anybody in this kingdom negatively"

"Negatively. So it affects us at all" Kahlan laughs "what do we tell Diana when she notices Torren and Louisa are no longer here"

"Hey, I can't help with that as well. I've been doing a lot of work lately. You figure that out".

"Forget I asked" Kahlan said. After a little while she started again "what really happened between you and lord Torren?, why didn't things work out?"

"Listen Kahlan, I'm sitting here with you and having a conversation yes, but I still don't like you and we're not even friends okay. We're working together because we have no other choice alright, so don't get carried away' wow, Aurora is really mean.

"I'm not the one getting carried away here. I just want to know if the reason I despise you so much is the same very reason why he left you, so don't give yourself much credit" woah! That was a really cool clap back. Aurora said nothing more, she simply walked away from Kahlan.

Later at night, Kahlan was with me. "Where's Louisa? I haven't seen her for quite a while now" I asked as I sat on my bed putting on some scented lotion. "Aah, she went hunting with Aurora and now she's in her room....sleeping, yes sleeping, she eh, she had a pretty tough day. She slept off quite early you know, I should head to my room now my lady" Kahlan muttered and quickly headed towards the door but the door slammed shut right before she approached the door.

"Don't think you can take me for a fool Kahlan. I can see right through your lies. I will ask you one last time where is Louisa?"

"I'm telling you the truth my lady" Kahlan said as she turned to face me. "Okay, sorry I startled you, you can go now" I said and the door quietly opened. Kahlan moved quickly towards the open door but I held my fist and she stopped abruptly and started to choke. She struggled for life as I lifted her up without touching her, my eyes turning really red and getting smokey. Aurora heard the noise and rushed over and quickly intercepted my magic. "How dare you Aurora?" I said making red flames by moving my palms in a circular motion. Aurora dragged Kahlan out of the room before I could throw the fire at them and shut my door, sealing it with magic.

They ran into Aurora's room. "Did you see that? Her eyes were really scary" Kahlan said as she paced "she almost killed us".

"Enough Kahlan, I've seen worst than that, but now I'm certain that she is a harbinger or has the harbinger in her. And whatever it was back there, it's only a matter of time before she breaks out of that room. Get the other maids out of the palace, I'll see how to face her" Aurora said. For the 1st time without arguing with Aurora, Kahlan nodded and did as she was asked. Aurora searched through Torren's spell books for solution. Soon she met with Kahlan. "Where's that sword" Aurora asked.

"What sword?"

"The one she was with. The day you arrived in Draven, Diana had that unique sword, where is it?"

"In her room. Where she keeps other swords"

"That's the only way go save her. Listen I need that sword. It's the only thing that can kill the demon in her"

They were still talking when I broke out of my room and walked through the castle with fire in my eyes and palms "where are you Kahlan?, we're best of friends you know, you can't hide from me. I can hear you. Are we playing a little hide and seek now?"

As they heard my voice, Kahlan go scared. "She's here Aurora. And she's looking for me why?"

I rushed into the room and threw the fire ball at them but Aurora blocked it with magic and sent a bigger fire my way which knocked me down and weakened me for a moment as they ran off. They hid somewhere I wouldn't easily find them "Listen, I have to find a way to lure Diana to that sword. That sword is what will take away the harbinger in her" Aurora said.

"So you're just going to stab her with that sword? Cause I won't be the one to do it" Kahlan said.

"Not me either. She has to do it herself. I already gave her enough portion of the breakout antidote so it's going to work"

"Will she get hurt?, if she stabs herself with that sword will she be alive after the demon or whatever you call it is gone?"

"If there is still some of her human essence left in her, yes"

"And if there's none?"

"She'll die. But that thing back there isn't Diana. It's....."

"My friend. She might be under a spell or anything but she's still my friend. You can't expect me to sit back and watch her die, there has to be another way"

"There's no other way Kahlan. She's out of control and we must do whatever we have to do right now or she'll burn down this castle and go into the streets".

"I see. Loosing her means nothing to you. That's why he left you. Friendship means nothing to you"

"Don't you dare Kahlan, don't talk about what you know nothing of. I could leave you here with her you know".

"If you truly love lord Torren you should know he wouldn't want her dead no matter what, we could at least see if there's any humanity left in her, please"

"Listen, whatever I do, Diana is not the one there. If she dies with the evil it's death, if the evil lives on in her it's even more dangerous"

Soon I was slowly getting to where they were hiding.

"Fine, see if she's got some humanity in her, on your own risk" Aurora said and pushed Kahlan out of their hiding place into my view. "Tired of our little game Kahlan?" I asked.

"Diana listen, I know you're in there and you don't want to do this. I understand how you feel. But Louisa isn't running away from you. She just needed some time to be able to control her magic, that's all, I'm sorry I lied to you, please" Kahlan said trying to tame the evil.

At that time I was myself again, the smoke was gone "Kahlan? Kahlan I can't control it" just then the evil took over again "liar!!!"

"Hey, wouldn't you love to take up a better challenge?" Aurora said stepping out of her hiding place. "Catch me if you can't" she said and ran off and I went after her. She ran into my room and when I came in, she slammed the door.

"Listen, let's do this without magic and see who's the better fighter" Aurora said. "We'll only use one sword, who ever gets it first stabs the other person and takes on her powers".

"I love a good challenge" I said and rushed towards Aurora.

We fought until she pinned me to the wall, her body was on my body. I quickly got hold of the sword using magic and as I wanted to stab her from the back, she quickly disappeared and I stabbed myself instead. She was now standing at the other corner of the room "you" I said pointing at her while I was slowly dying and going down to the floor.

"You cheated first, I only reciprocated your actions" Aurora said. In no time I passed out and the demon was gone, Destroyed. Kahlan ran into the room, and held me. "Diana come back. Please" she cried. It took a while before I gasped and opened my eyes.
