Chapter 10: Hear Me Out

What have I done? This is bad. This was quite possible the most tremendous blunder I have ever made. I tried to stay in the shadows and track down those rogue vampires and, as luck would have it, Officer Claire Knight was out sauntering down the streets unaccompanied.

She is a strong woman, yes, but not against my kind. I needed to act fast and now the damage is done. I still feel the energy of the fight charging every nerve in my body. I want to go after them. I want to chase them down and put an end to the killings.

Sadly, I cannot do anything of the sort. From just behind me, I hear Claire’s voice, slightly trembling and filled with disbelief, utter a single, condemning word.

“You.”

She just watched the fight and I had now revealed my identity, hinting at what I am. I cannot leave, and feel my teeth grind instinctually as I try to collect my thoughts. This is going to take some finesse.
