Nicole sat on the bed she was a little worried as to what the scroll could contain she looked at the owl but it only looked at her with its piercing black eyes. She wanted to pet Slade only to receive a harsh poke of its beak causing her to yelp.

"No need to be so mean Slade, let's see what this scroll says here."

She unraveled the ribbon as she opened it reading it carefully as her eyes started to tear up. Her hands began to shake trying to keep her composure as it was Earl her father who had written to her. To be told that he was alive, to simply write her a letter made her angry.
