1 Chapter 1: The move

Mila's pov.

I woke up an hour early to placed the moving boxes closed to the door.

Leaving this haunted house and this small town was long over due.

I can't thank Jackings Law school enough for accepting my college application.

My Jaw dropped when the dean her self called me to inform me that they will provide me with an accommodation off campus and allowance to buy suits and groceries.

Working hard on my grades and schooling all A plus on my report paid off.

I wish my dad was alive to see this, even though he didn't believe me and was an alcoholic,

He could be really nice on the occasions when he was sober.

My room was filled with pictures of our little fun adventures to prove it.

I stared at the picture that we took at the theme park with a warm smile.

I took care of the teddy bear that he won for me at one of the games.

"Dad I'm going to your favorite country! Do you believe it?

Where your favorite team is from. I'll go to the stadium for the both of us.

You see? The world is not as terrible as you always Said it was.

I'll come to the cemetery to say my goodbyes. I love you so much. "

I said touching the picture smiling. I will definitely exceed his expectations of me.

I'm going to be a big shot lawyer like the kind man who once helped us out.

I cringed thinking about a woman who falsely accused my dad of rape.

She started acting funny right after he broke up with her.

Her lie made me sick because she pushed a narrative that women make stuff up.

When there was proof that they dated and he treated her well.

The lawyer provided a recording of the woman threatening to ruin my father after he broke it off.

I shake my head trying to get rid of negative memories as I smile at the fact the everything worked out.

"Millie! Breakfast is ready, get your butt down here.

Your 5min minutes is 5 hours and I won't allow you to eat cold food."

Said My mother Valerie Aniston making a fuss as usual.

I shawored quickly, threw on a white bum short and a baby blue crop top vest.

Conditioned my hair and finger detangled my curly afro texture hair.

I did a puff bun and shot out the room like a jet.

"Oh my gosh mom! "

I exclaimed happily I munched down the pancakes and drank the chocolate milkshake.

We talked abit before the moving van arrived.

We helped the moving crew pack the boxes in the moving van.

Once the house was empty I sigh in relief, this is exactly what we needed.

A fresh started.

I pulled my phone out as I walked to the car to research the college that I'll be attending.

I pumped into a girl and she fell backwards from the impact, all her donuts were on the ground.

The latte had spilled on her jersey and jogger pants, some on her straight long platnim blonde hair.

She immediately apologized once she saw that the latte had stained my shirt.

I instantly cringed at meekness and helped her up, handing her the glasses that had a Crack.

I gave her the piggy bank that I had planned to use on delicious road trip treats.

" I can't take this, this is all my fault! I saw you and got distracted instead of moving out the way."

She said pushing the piggy bank back into my hands.

"I'm sorry I was too focused on my phone and ruined your day."

I apologized feeling guilty looking at the spilled food.

It looked like it would have cost me two more piggy banks.

"Hey I can just go buy more, you can come with me if you want my house is not far from here."

Said the pretty short petite girl. She must be new here judging from her positivity.

"I would really love you but I gotta go I'm moving, and my mom will bite my head off for holding us up."

I said and watched her smile drop instantly.

She definitely doesn't have friends if she's that worried about me leaving.

I can definitely relate to that but I really have to go.

Working off, I didn't expect her to grab my arm, caught off gaurd I dropped my phone cracking the screen.

"Oh I'm so sorry I just wanted your number. I buy you a new one!"

She rushed out panicked. I'm a mellow person but like the vast majority, my phone is my life.

So naturally I snapped as I picked up my broken phone.

"My dad got me that phone! I can't believe this ! You know what forget it, I'll see you around."

I said coldly.

Than again I can take off the cover and stickers and take it for repairs.

I walked fast feeling tears fill my eyes. My carelessness resulted in me destroying another happy memory of my dad.

"Wait! I'm really sorry I didnt mean it!"

The girl rushed after me till I got to the car.

I got in and sat down rolling up my window as tears build up in my eyes.

My mother understood my change of mood once she saw the phone.

She got off the car upset and was ready to let her have it.

"I-I-I'm so s-sorry Mam! It was on accident. Both the latte and the phone!

C-can you send me the price of the D-damages?"

Said the girl mortified.

"What's your name girl?" My mom asked with tenderness.

"R-Riley Hemsworth Mam." She said looking at the pavement.

"Riley. I see that this was a freak accident and you not a bully.

You even willing to compensate for something that happened on chance.

Mila's father was her entire world and he bought her that phone.

Her reaction is not personal but coming from grief. Don't take what she said or did to heart.

My Mila is lovely and maybe you'll see that one day?"

Said my mother and Riley leaned to whisper something to her before blushing.

Knowing my mother it's not a secret anymore.

"Really? You want to exchange numbers to be Riley's friend?

Uhm we can but don't hold any high hopes.

She likes her space and doesn't see the point of friendships."

Riley ignored my mother's warning of my personal and beamed happily before thanking her.

Riley ran off like a kid skipping as she walked and I couldn't help but laugh.

"I may be old but honey I know love with I see it."

Said my mother conjuring up her imagination yet once again.

"Are we not in a hurry? Can we go?" I shot back ending this fairytale topic before it begins.

Riley us well off and wouldn't want to be with me.

Not only is our ethnicity different but I am from humble beginnings.

I did have dreams but all of them were logical.

Believing that Riley wants me would be thinking to highly of myself.

She was just polite and probably has a good looking rich boyfriend.

I cleared my head of the nonsense that my mother was trying to throw my way.

Grabbing her phone I looked up my colleague and the dean, along with all the professors.

I read up on the modules that I'll be study as compulsory and those that I could choose from that were that vital.

We stopped at a metrol station as I fell asleep in my mom's car.

The day sure was a roller coaster but atleast I got to meet someone.

Even though our encounter was so chaotic, I thought that she was too cute and innocent to move there.

Speak of the she devil as she will pop up out of nowhere.

My mom's phone rang flashing her name and a smile made its way to my lips.

All my life I didn't see the need to make friends or allow invasion of my personal space.

I still feel like I wanted my space but it would be rude to watch the phone ring, so I answered it.

" Hey, Mam can i speak to Mila, if that's okay"

Said Riley in a timid voice before there was commotion heard in the background of the phone.

"You are taking to her."

I said smiling at how quickly she got in touch.

"I'm sorry again for the phone, I insist on replacing it or getting it fixed."

Said Riley and I rolled my eyes at the fact that she's so persistent.

"Okay I'll send you my mom's banking details." I said shaking my head in disbelief.

"Thanks, I'll text you, I gotta go."

Said Riley in a cheery tone that sounded too excited.

My mom's phone vibrated and dinged alerting me of the money that just got sent.

I was awestruck when I saw the amount.
