Vampire's Ascension

Set in a fantasy Victorian styled world that has some elements of modern technology as well as the mythos of vampires and the like mixed in. A corrupt government that manipulates its citizens with twisted truths and outright lies, as well as the people of the country who are too stupid to realize it. Aurik, a young man in his twenties, sees the world for what it is but can do nothing but suffer through life as he tries to live to see tomorrow. He is certainly dissatisfied with the way things are, both for himself and his country, but he gave up on trying to change things a long time ago. A lone man with no money, no fame, no name and no power cannot change the world. But what if he had power? One night, through a twist of fate, Aurik's life changes for the better when he meets a stranger and accidentally becomes a vampire. With the power of a vampire, couldn't he find a way to make a change? No, even then it would be impossible. But what about an entire society filled with vampires? Yes, that should do it. And so, Aurik decided that his goal in this new life would be one thing and one thing alone. Become the king of vampires and use their power to conquer his country and change things so that he wouldn't feel disgusted every time a politician spoke or a citizen believed them.

Physical Changes (1)

After taking a shower Aurik lay down in his bed and simply went to sleep. His mind was racing with many thoughts and he believed it would take some time before he was relaxed enough to fall asleep but the moment his eyes closed he was already unconscious.

When the sound of ringing interrupted his sleep, Aurik practically jumped to his feet in fright. He moved with impressive dexterity for someone who just woke up and pressed the button to silence his mechanical alarm.

A small frown appeared on his face as a crunching sound resounded in the room. He looked at his own hand with astonishment before his eyes rested on the damaged piece of metal on his bedside table.

'I'm positive that alarm can't be broken this easily... I barely even touched it. I know I'm moody in the morning but it's not like I used all my strength to bash the thing.'

Aurik's bewilderment was mixed with a hint of pride at his own strength as he stared at the thick metallic alarm clock that now had an indent on its roof that made it look a little like the letter U.

The pride he felt quickly faded as he realized that the alarm clock would have to be replaced with money he didn't exactly have. He shook his head and sighed before grabbing his clothes and getting dressed for the day.

The suit he had been wearing the past few days was basically ruined at this point, be it because of the cuts and rips or because of the blood stains that would be difficult to wash out. As such, he was forced to use a more simple outfit that consisted of a white shirt with a black vest on top and a trench coat over that.

To make the outfit stand out less he wore a pair of black pants and the same set of black dress shoes he had been wearing every day, since they were luckily unaffected by recent events.

During the time he was getting dressed, Aurik noticed some very obvious changes to his body that were impossible to miss. His skin was clearer than before and the few moles he had on his body had vanished without a trace. His muscles seemed to be more visible than before and had even grown slightly in size, raising his physical status from average to toned.

For once it felt like the muscles on his body were visible not just because he lacked fat but because he actually had something to be seen. Until this point he had always been a rather skinny man who couldn't gain weight even if he wanted to since he couldn't afford to buy enough food to facilitate muscle growth.

'Of all the strange things that have been happening, this is the first good thing.' He couldn't help but think as he finished getting dressed.

His clothes felt a little tighter than usual and the trench coat that usually reached passed his knees was now sitting slightly above them. Aurik may have felt alarmed by this any other day but with how his body had changed he accepted it while silently cursing about having to buy new clothes along with the alarm clock.

'I might actually be able to have a normal day now that I'm not struggling with that awful thirst anymore, Although I know how to solve it now so...' Aurik's mind trailed off as he remember what happened with Tristan and how sweet his blood tasted.

He felt ashamed for a moment when he realized that he hadn't even thought twice about drinking blood and just blindly accepted that it was the solution like it was a normal thing to do.

He shook his head and left his apartment while pushing those thoughts out of his mind. 'If I have to drink blood then so be it. This is the hand I've been dealt and I see no reason why I should suffer instead of some random person. It's not like I'll kill them either, after I've had enough I'll just leave them be.'

Aurik intended to arrive at work a little early since he was already expecting a lecture for leaving half way through the previous day. He had left the restaurant keys in the employee break room so he knew someone else would have closed up and would be there to open soon so he wanted to arrive at the same time as that person.

He felt strangely energetic so he didn't mind arriving early but as soon as he began walking a strange feeling filled his body. His balance wavered slightly with every step and it felt like he had to put more focus into walking than usual.

After a few minutes that strange feeling started to subside a bit and he got used to whatever it was that was happening, allowing him to relax a bit more on his walk. However, another strange occurrence started to take place as he allowed his eyes to wander over his surroundings.

Everything looked different than usual, like he was seeing through someone else's perspective. The things he would usually see on his way to work seemed wrong somehow, like they were closer or further away than before.

The welcome mat than lay on the floor in front of a shop he passed every day felt like it was smaller than before but he knew it couldn't be since it fit the step behind it just as perfectly as it always did.

He continued to notice these strange sights until he bumped his head into a sign that was hanging from the outside wall of a shop. The reason this allowed him to realize what was happening was because this was a sign he had walked under many times before, yet he had never bumped his head into it. The realization hit like lightning.

'I got taller! Haha! I don't believe it! Wait, I really don't believe it... how did I get taller? Bigger muscles and better physique, sure that was weird but other than the speed it happened at it was a normal thing the body can do, but how did I suddenly get taller after being the same height for almost a decade?'
