Chapter 1

It was a snowy night in the beautiful city of Ezen. It was December 21 and Mrs. Mie was in a hospital bed with her new born baby cradled in her arms. Mr. Mie was next to her exhausted after a long and dreadful day at work.

Mr. Mie's job was to steal or negotiate a deal with hospitals in order to obtain blood that was later sold to vampires In Vallzaluz vampires were only allowed 3 ml of blood per week. Yet some vampires became addicted to blood and bought from people like Mr. Mie. They paid hefty prices for the blood and some people would meet up with dealers and steal the blood from them.

They only collected human and elf blood since it was the most common. Stealing the blood was easy but getting the blood on the legal market was harder than getting a splinter out of your finger.

Mr. Mie had gotten his hands on some mermaid blood(one of the sweetest and most rarest) but before he could get in his car, he was pinned to the ground and beaten up. The mermaid blood was stolen from him. As he bled out he thought of how he had nothing to sell and he wouldn't be home in time to accompany wife during labor.

He was only able to get home thanks to an old lady who felt pity towards him and called an ambulance. They gave him painkillers and bandaged his wounds.

He called a taxi and as soon as he saw his wife with his newborn baby he collapsed right next to their bed. "S-she looks just like you," he said as tears streamed down his face. Mrs. Mie had noticed how beat up and tired he looked but knew he wouldn't tell her anything so she just smiled gently as she muttered slowly., "but look she has your eyes, your bright green eyes" "Y-yeah?" he asked as he looked at his daughter. "Are you ok honey?"

"Yeah, yeah, I'm fi-" he fell asleep suddenly while tears kept streaming down his face. " Sleep well honey. I love you" Mrs. Mie muttered before she fell asleep as well.

*time skip*

"Mary come downstairs!" Mrs. Mie yelled

"I'm going mom!" said a 10 year old Mary as she ran down the stairs and threw herself on the couch. "Hi mommy" she grinned.

"Hi baby, I just thought I should tell you...Ummm... your father and I were talking and we wanted you to...learn about mates" said Mrs. Mie hesitating but she was still really excited since she had been wanting to do this for a long time.

"Ok?" Mary replied confused as she braided her favorite doll's hair, confused about what the word 'mates' meant. Mary looked up at her mother tossing her doll to the side. 'Sorry Glenda' she thought looking at her doll sadly then back at her mom.

"Alright honey look. A mate is the person the Moon Goddess chose for you to live the rest of your life with. You will meet this person when your 18 or older. Some of us have more than one mate but the humans, angels, and demons don't have mates. " This had sparked Mary's interest because she always wanted more friends her only friend right now was Katie.

All her other friends had stopped hanging out with her because a boy named Sean had gotten a Nintendo switch and he was letting people play with it in exchange for them not talking to Mary.

"I do hope you get a good mate and that they treat you well" said Mrs. Mie. Her phone began to ring suddenly. and she went to pick up the phone.

"I need to answer this, alright? Goodnight honey ."

"Alright...goodnight mama."

Mary went to bed thinking about how many mates she would get and if her mate would like her.

"I wonder who it'll be." Mary thought long and hard until she came to a conclusion.

"Well I don't care as long as they loves me and I love them!" Mary exclaimed as she turned off the light.

" Unless they're like mean old Sean! Blegh!"

Meanwhile, Mrs.Mie had to deal with her husband's problems.

"No, He's not home today either" repeated Mrs. Mie grimmly.

A lady's voice replied back in a mad tone "Well if he isn't there by tomorrow just know that you will have to do his job. Got that?" 

"Please understand that h-"

"Look, he was one of our best money makers, with him on our team we led the market. But now that he's gone we barely make enough money to pay our employees. Now, either he comes back or you come in for him."

The lady on the other end hung up leaving Rachelle to weep on her own, with nobody but herself to listen to her tears fall on the marble floor.

GUIDE

Vallzaluz is a planet in which other beings other than humans live like werewolves, ghosts, mermaids, mummies, demons, angels, etc.

Mary (The main character) and everyone else lives in Ezen which is one of the many cities in Vallzaluz.

Mary's dad's job was a dangerous one so he puts his family in trouble a lot and it eventually led to Mary's mother having to stand in for him at his job when he suddenly disappeared.
