6 Gathering, Planning and Summoning

"I placed a barrier around this whole camp and a second one around those women. I'm letting them sleep for now to recover from their ordeal. Can you create a barrier to protect them, too? It's better than only having one type." Teacher asked, staring at the sleeping women before she looked back at Onmyoji.

"Of course," Onmyoji replied as she thought about what would be the best protection. She took out four talismans from her sleeve and placed them in a square around them and used a hand sign to activate them. All four talismans glowed a goldish yellow color and a magical circle appeared under them before it all disappeared.

"Ooh~, how pretty," Bugbear gasped in amazement and turned to her. "What does it do?"

"It's a barrier that shocks anyone that tries to enter without my permission," Onmyoji replied bending down to Bugbear's level and bopped her on the nose. "So don't walk over there, ok?"

After receiving a nod Onmyoji stood back up, pulling out another three talismans from her sleeve and threw them as it transformed into three Oni-like creatures with yellow and red markings all over their body. They were 14 feet tall with bulging muscular bodies that could make the Hulk green with envy and waited for Onmyoji to speak in silence.

I shivered feeling power radiating from them, and I couldn't help but look down at my own skinny body, with no muscles to speak of. I sighed in defeat and felt Teacher's hand on my shoulder and turned to look at her giving me a look silently saying that I'm not going to bulk up like that, no matter what.

"Oooh~." Bugbear said with stars in her eyes and before anyone could stop her, she ran up to them. "Hey, hey pick me up and put me on your shoulder," She yelled excitedly but turned to look at Onmyoji with tears in her eyes when they didn't follow her command.

Onmyoji, herself, sighed lightly in defeat remembering someone else doing the exact same thing, and decided to indulge her, lest she would bug her for hours on end, no pun intended. She learned her lesson the last time and waved her hand allowing the middle Oni to pick Bugbear up much to her delight.

"Now, with a cute little girl like me on top of your shoulder, you'll never lose," Bugbear smugly stated with her eyes closed as she nodded to her own statement.

We all shared a confused look at each other, even the Oni's scratched their heads looking confused. It was at that moment we all decided to ignore that little bit of information.

"Onwards, my stead!"

The giant Oni spared a look to Onmyoji, who gave him a pitying look and nodded before he walked off with Bugbear jumping on his back as if that would make him walk faster.

I swear I could hear a deep sigh coming from the Oni as he and his comrades walked away and we soon focused on what we had to do now.

"Should we start gathering food, make a shelter, or try to look for any signs of civilization?" I asked looking up at the sky as it started getting dark.

"We should forage for food and create shelter for the night. We can start searching for people the next day," Teacher said with a sigh before waving her wand and creating three wooden tents from a few trees after cutting them down.

"Well, at least we still have some rabbit meat on hand," I said as Teacher pulled out said meat, and I soon realized the problem. There were more people and not enough food for everyone, especially Bugbear and her huge appetite.

I started making a fire, but it was a lot harder and took longer than it looked on tv, but I had to do it on my own. If we were ever separated from each other I'd have to know how to make one, or that's the excuse I was given when I ask Teacher for help.

"I'll handle the gathering," Onmyoji replied pulling out a few more talismans making me wonder how much she actually has hidden in her sleeve. She threw it a few feet away and after a few popping sounds with smoke, 6 small white humanoid creatures about 5 feet tall appeared with squares on their faces.

"Go out and gather some berries if you can find them, any small animals or any deers, and make sure to stay hidden," Onmyoji ordered them, and they soon left. She then sat down with her legs crossed as she reached her hand in a glowing circle before pulling out a stack of papers, ink, and a brush from her storage space.

I stared at Onmyoji, watching her start creating more talismans, and decided to leave her alone for the moment. I walked up to Teacher as she was looking through the gathered items checking out the weapons and fixing those that she could.

They were all either useable but needed a good sharpening or broken, chipped, dull, or rusted and the same goes for armor or what's left of them. I ignored the red spots on said armors, looking for any Identifying symbols and then at the coins themselves when I found nothing identifiable. They all were either gold, silver, or bronze and had markings that meant nothing to me and some expensive jewelry that Teacher took the gems out of.

I started counting the coins and pretty soon had 533 bronze coins, 327 silver coins, and 84 gold coins in separate piles. I paused wondering if I could put the coins in my storage space and took a bronze coin to test it.

Storage: 0 Cards, 1 Bronze Coin

I blinked staring at my empty hand for a few seconds before sighing in relief that it worked and the fact that I didn't have to carry such a heavy sack of coins. If it didn't then I would have asked Teacher or Onmyoji to hold on to it in their own way, but not Bugbear. She would have either thrown it at an enemy or used it like a club spilling the coins from the bag. I gathered the rest of the coins and shoved them into my storage space.

After that, I turned my attention to my status screen, more specifically my stat points. I decided to not wait on using them since I don't see any change on my stats and added enough to have all my stats at 25, except for Luck. I added the leftover to that stat since I need all the luck I could get with that diabolical system, Gacha.

----------------------------------------------------------

I was a little disappointed when I didn't receive any perk for getting at 25 or was it supposed to be at 50? Maybe 100? I don't really remember, but if not then at least I can summon more of my Valkyries with a higher mana pool and I can practice magic. I then focused on my body, and I immediately noticed the difference thanks to the fact that it's easier to swing a sword than before. So that pans out, and then I turned to look at my Summoning Points.

[Summoning Points: 12,188]

I stared dazed for a few moments at the amount of SP I have before I started grinning and then I frowned soon after. Since it all depends on my Luck which is at 42, not a good or bad amount.

I paused before doing anything else, trying to remember if the rules said anything about what would happen to the Valkyries when sacrificed for the experience. It took me a few minutes thinking about it but it only talked about the Arcanas being destroyed after using them. So I asked the system, "What will happen to the Valkyries that are sacrificed?"

[All sacrificed or traded Valkyries will go back to their packs without any damage from being sacrificed. Their memories of you will reappear when they are summoned.]

I sighed in relief and then went to the card packs.

[Passion] [Cool] [Light] [Dark] [Special]

I decided to use 1,000 points on the [Special] summon to get slime girls for the experience or the Rare metals to buy Arcana's.

[Transport all cards to deck?]

[Yes/No]

I pressed no wondering how I can switch out some cards and I waited a few seconds until a new prompt appeared.

[Calculating... Reached minimum amount of cards in the deck. Reorganize all cards?]

[Yes/No]

I press yes and a new screen appeared with all of my cards. I kept the same 8 cards in my deck and added the 1 Mirror Maidens, 3 Slime Queens, 2 Metal Slime, 3 Slime, 2 Metal Girls, and 2 Gold Girl.

After that, the window closed, and my deck shuffled itself a few times before it stopped with a timer.

[3:24:35] Until Next Card Draw

I picked up the heavy bag containing the [Rare Medals] from the ground and opened it up to see one. It's silver with the edges being blue with an engraving of, wings perhaps? They look like wings, so I'll just say wings and then they all disappeared. I blinked in shock staring at my empty hands until a new screen appeared in front of me.

[Congratulations on receiving your first Rare Medals! You get 5,000 Rare Medals as a reward! Opening the Arcana Store now!]

[??]

----------------------------------------------------------

I started drooling at all the Arcana's, especially the [Arcana Soldier] and [Skill Cost] since I don't remember them from the game. Though it's a bummer that there's a limit to the [Skill Cost Arcana], but I understand since I would be spamming their skills nonstop until my enemies were deader than dead.

I couldn't help but be excited at the low cost of the Arcana Succession and I could buy as many as I want. I blinked at the question marks at bottom of the page and pressed it.

-----------------------------

ATK/DEF/Soldier Stat bonus (per card): Evolution bonus +5%

Max level bonus +5%

Arcana succession +5%

[Material card #1 x stat bonus] + [Material Card #2 x stat bonus] + [Arcana Succession 5%] + Base stats of the next stage

-----------------------------

So if my math is right, Teacher will be stronger than her normal counterpart if I max out her level and stats with the Arcana Succession for each evolution until she reaches High Normal. Same for any other cards in my deck.

I decided to buy 10 Arcana Succession, 8 Arcana Training, 5 Arcana Forced ATK,

5 Arcana Strong DEF, and 4 Arcana Soldier Small for a total of 32 Arcanas.

[5100- 4640 = 360 Rare Medals]

A pack of cards suddenly appeared on my lap just as I purchased the Arcanas and the store window closed. I picked them up and put them in my pocket for later use as it seems that Onmyoji's shinigami has returned with a small deer and berries.
