CHAPTER 4: BEST FRIENDS FOREVER?

As early as 6 am, Indigo woke Sandra up so that she could sneak back to her house unnoticed. After that day, began a new friendship between the two. Indigo was older than Sandra by a year, he was also older than her by a class as well. He was supposed to start junior year while Sandra was to start her sophomore year.

Nevertheless, they got along pretty well. They used the remaining two months' holiday to learn and study each other. They spent most of their time, inside each other's homes talking about themselves,

"A sex tape?!" Indigo said surprised

"I'm telling you dude, the worst day of my fucking miserable life," Sandra said.

"Were you a virgin?" Indigo asked curiously.

"Obviously," Sandra said as they both laughed.

"That guy's a complete imbecile for leaking your sex tape."

"You asked me why I moved here. Well, it's because of that. I was humiliated, the whole class saw my sex tape projected on the wall!" Sandra said.

"I'm sorry about that Sandy."

"Thank you In. But like you said, let bygones be bygones."

They had already given themselves nicknames, Sandy and In. They told each other everything, they even created a handshake. When they wanted to be discreet, they used sign language.

"Indigo, I found this in your pockets when I was doing the laundry." Mrs Carmen called out from upstairs.

Sandra was at Indigo's when his mom found cigarettes in his trousers, he used sign language to communicate to Sandra that he thought she threw them away.

She communicated back saying, she forget to throw them away.

"Indigo I thought I warned you to stop smoking." Mrs Carmen said.

"Noted." He replied.

Sandra believed Indigo did not keep secrets from her. She believed they told each other everything,

"I've never seen your dad. What happened to him." Sandra asked.

Indigo's dad died along with his elder sister, they died by a stake pierced through their hearts. That's right, Indigo and his family come from a long line of vampires, and the only way they could die was from exposure to sunlight or by wood/stake.

"My dad died," Indigo said, as his mood changed. He was saddened by the question and the reality of it.

"Oh my God, In, I'm so sorry," Sandra said sorrowfully. She almost regretted asking him that question.

"It's a long time ago."

"What happened to him?"

"Car accident," Indigo said, with no emotion written on his face.

He had been lying to Sandra, he believed it was for the best. He did not tell her that Gilmore city was plagued by supernaturals. He let her believe that they were all humans.

Sandra and her family were among the humans that were oblivious to the fact that they lived with supernaturals,

"Let's make a promise," Sandra said.

"This is cliche as fuck!" Indigo said with a peal of brief laughter.

"Come on In. It'll be quick." Sandra urged him.

"Okay, okay. I'm all ears."

"Promise me that you'll never lie to me, no matter what," Sandra said.

Indigo's eyes were widely opened, he knew he could make such a promise. Because he has been lying to her.

"Come in In. Promise me." She said as she laughed.

Indigo wanted to change the topic, so he kissed Sandra. Sandra closed her eyes while he kissed her, when Indigo was done, she opened her eyes.

"What was that for?" Sandra said perplexed.

"Never doubt me," Indigo said.

It was an awkward moment for the both of them, so Sandra took her things and went home. She walked very rapidly, when she got to her home she entered her room and banged the door,

"We're just friends, why did he kiss me. We are just friends right?" She said panting while walking around.

Indigo was also thinking about his earlier action,

"Why did I do it? Why?!" He stressed.

Soon, they stopped seeing each other for a while,

"Indigo, I'll be going over to Sandra's place later today, do you wanna tag along?" Mrs Carmen asked.

"Nope." He said as he left for his room.

Mrs Carmen found it odd, she knew those two would kill for any second together,

"Sandra, I'll be going to Indigo's house later, would you like to come with me?" Mrs Helen asked.

"I'm busy," Sandra hesitated.

"Since when are you busy?" Helen said. She knew that Sandra was always eager to meet up with Indigo.

Both women noticed something was wrong. So they both devised a plan,

"Are you sure Indigo's not around?" Sandra asked her mom.

"I promise Sandra. He went to the coffee shop. It's a Sunday afternoon, remember." Her mom replied.

Meanwhile at Indigos,

"Indigo, not long now, Sandra's mother would drop by and keep something for me." Mrs Carmen said.

"What's that?" Indigo asked.

Mrs Carmen did not know what to say so she hesitated, and she said,

"Well, something. Just make sure you attend to her when she comes." Mrs Carmen said.

"Wait, you're leaving?" Indigo asked.

"I'll be back soon, don't worry." Mrs Carmen said as she left.

Shortly, their plan began to work, Sandra was already at the door of Indigo's home. Mrs Carmen and Helen were in hiding, ready to lock Sandra from the outside when she goes in.

Sandra used the doorbell and no one answered. She discovered that the door was opened so she entered,

"Mrs Carmen! Mrs Carmen!" She yelled.

Indigo came downstairs annoyed from all the shouting,

"Mrs Helen, I'm here!" He said.

Sandra and Indigo were both shocked to see themselves,

"How are you here?- No- But it was supposed to be your mom- What?!" They both said simultaneously.

"Mom!" They both groaned.

Immediately their moms knew that they were exposed, they locked the door behind Sandra,

"Hey!" Sandra said.

"Mom! This isn't funny, let me out!" Sandra yelled.

"They're not gonna open it," Indigo said hopelessly.

"Mom! Mrs Carmen! I swear I will break this door!" Sandra yelled.

"Why even bother Sandra," Indigo said.

"What did you say?" Sandra asked out of shock.

"Why even bother Sandra?" Indigo repeated what he said oblivious to what Sandra was trying to point out.

"You just called me Sandra,"

"Isn't that your name?" He said confusedly.

"What happened to Sandy?"

"Ever since I kissed you, nothing has been the same." Indigo said abruptly.

"Don't mention the kiss." Sandra said in a lowered tone, urging him to keep his voice down.

"No, ever since I kissed you, we've been acting differently towards each other."

"Stop saying you kissed me!" Sandra yelled. As soon as she realized that she was too loud she used her hands to cover her mouth, embarrassed.

Mrs Carmen and Helen heard it and they were both shocked,

"Kissed?!" They both chorused outside.

"The thing is Sandy, the kiss was a mistake. It was a means to shut you up." Indigo said.

"What an intimate means to shut me up In!"

"And I'm sorry. You're my best friend. I would never ever get intimate with you." Indigo said.

"Oh In! You make it so impossible for one to hate you." She said as she hugged him.

"I've missed you so much!" Indigo said as he embraced her tightly. After a while, Sandra said,

"Now let's make that promise,"

Indigo took a deep breath and he said,

"I promise, I would never lie to you." He said with an assuring smile.

"Let's shake on it," Sandra said as she brought out her hands for a shake.

They shook on it and had one last hug. Mrs Carmen and Helen opened the door and walked in super happy that their children were talking again.

"One happy big friend again!" Mrs Carmen said excitedly while Helen applauded.

They both ignored their mom's then Mrs Carmen said to Sandra,

"Hey, school starts next week."

"Yeah, I'm so excited," Sandra said.

"One week before school starts, especially when it's a new session, the cool kids always throw a party. I was wondering if you could convince Indigo to go too." Mrs Carmen said.

They both laughed,

"The day I go for a party is the day I die," Sandra said sarcastically.

Indigo burst out laughing,

"They're the same?" Mrs Carmen said stunned.

"Unfortunately," Mrs Helen said as both women left them to be.

Nighttime fell, Indigo laid down on his bed while Sandra lay on the floor,

"Do you think we should go?" Indigo asked.

"Do not tell me, that you're having second thoughts. Cause count me out if you are." Sandra said.

"Sandy, this could be the perfect opportunity for you to outgrow yourself. You said you've always been bullied throughout your years of school. Isn't that why you moved here?"

"In, are you high?" Sandra asked.

"Nah, haven't smoked since I kissed you."

"Stop bringing it up!" Sandra said as she picked up a pillow and threw it at his face.

"I'm sorry," He said as he laughed briefly.

"What I was trying to say was that the past few months we spent together made me realize that we need to try new things." He added.

"In, since when?" Sandra said surprised.

"Look, we'll spend the night alone. We don't need to bring attention to ourselves."

"I'm new here to them, they don't know me," Sandra said.

"I've been here for a long time, and I might seem new to them as well."

"Don't lie to me In, obviously, someone knows you."

"Okay a few people, but I barely talk to them," Indigo said.

"Sandra, come on think about it," Indigo said.

"In, seriously I don't understand you. Why the sudden change of mind." Sandra asked curiously.

"I don't know Sandy. Of all my years spent at Gilmore city, I haven't attended any of those things. That's because," Sandra interrupted Indigo.

"Because you didn't have any friends," Sandra said with compassion.

"Now I have you, Sandy. You're changing me."

"There goes my belief of not bringing out the best in people," Sandra said as Indigo laughed.

"You never had people in your life," Indigo said as they both laughed.

Sandra gave Indigo a long stare them she said to him,

"Let's fucking party!!!!"
