Used But Not Broken

Emotions

Katie and Crystal split ways when they got to the ATC building with all of the extracurricular activities inside. Katie went into Culinary Arts and Crystal went into her computer class. As soon as she walked into the culinary arts room, her friends already knew something was up. She sat down and looked at her phone, ignoring everyone, wanting to find the right words to respond back with. She wasn't listening to anyone who was trying to talk to her and was focused on her phone until someone came up to her and snapped their fingers. "Damn girl, what happened to you?". Katie still wouldn't talk and just showed the text that felt, to her, like her life was ending. After all three of her friends read the text, they wanted to help respond but they wanted to do it in a rude way which was not part of Katie's plan to figure out the truth. She explained to her friends how she found the reasoning to be a little suspicious and how she was determined to find out what the actual cause of the relationship ending was. Once her friends realized what she was trying to do, they came up with a paragraph to send Christian. "Okay, I understand. I am not going to keep your sweatshirt and will give it to Blake after class. Kind of confused about the whole jealous thing because we only saw each other two times out of the entire school day and I let you hang out with whoever you wanted as long as I knew you were mine at the end of the day. I really wished you had spoken to me face to face instead of making this worse for the both of us. Thank you for everything." After she sent the text, all of her bad emotions consisting of sadness, anger, and hatred were washed away with confidence. She looked at her phone again and saw that Christian had read her text and was typing. As the class started, she put her phone in her bag and forgot about the whole situation for an hour and a half. For an hour and a half, she acted like her old self again laughing with her friends and having fun cooking. Meanwhile, her phone had one text she had yet to read that said "I can break up with you when and if I choose to. Don't question why just because you weren't as jealous as I thought. I didn't want to hurt your feelings which is why I texted you but I guess you're still going to be annoying about it." After the bell rang, Katie took her phone, grabbed her bag, and met up with Crystal to walk to band class. She read the text Christian wrote to her and started laughing, which caught Crystal off guard. "What's so funny?" Katie showed the text to Crystal and followed up by saying, "He knows that it wasn't because I was being jealous and he knows I know now too." They both started laughing up until Blake walked up to Katie and asked for the sweatshirt. "I'm sorry that he did this, he's an asshole." Blake and Katie used to date but it ended when Blake realized he didn't have feelings for Katie anymore. They remained good friends and that was how she met Christian in the first place so she felt that Blake was a good person to confide in about the situation. "It's fine I guess but I know something else is going on because, I wasn't a jealous person and once I texted that to him, he got mad at me and started calling me all sorts of annoying names." She showed him the text messages and suddenly Blake became confused. "He told you that was the only reason he broke up with you?" Then Katie and Crystal started to get confused. "What are you-" Suddenly the late bell rang and Katie and Crystal started running to band. "Tell me later okay?", Katie yelled as she was running away. She and Crystal walked into the band room and were immediately met with a disappointing look from the band director who motioned for them to hurry and get their instruments. Band class for Katie was like a safe space where she could forget anything that happened to her earlier in the day. Today, however, was an exception. What did Blake mean when he said that? Suddenly, she got a text message from her friend Adrien who was also in the band but was in percussion, meaning they were in another room practicing. As soon as she read the text, her heart dropped again. "I have to talk to you about Christian. Don't listen to his reasoning, it's about Alex too." Alex was one of Christian's friends that he met in one of his classes and she knew she didn't like her. She thought to herself, "Guess I have to wait another hour to find out the truth."
