Waiting it out

He takes a breathe. He have managed to get to this floor without encountering those monsters.

It is a bit shameful, but he is not regretting his decision. Running away from that place is the right decision.

There is no need for pride. If something is dangerous, it is alright to run away.

This is not a novel where he can just go around guns blazing. He have to think things through before committing to it.

He sighs. "That's fucking scary!" He shuddered just thinking about those giant rats.

The way their orb-like eyes glinted maliciously, it's giving him the chills. The way they look is primal, like the only thing in their mind is to shred anyone to pieces.

"But my turrets are killing those rats by the hundreds I think?"

Everyday, he always see a bunch of rat corpses near the turret installations. Which means, he is decreasing their numbers for a bit.

That number will build up, until it turns into thousands.

'If I wait this out, maybe those rats will lose it's numbers. Which means, I can take care of the remaining ones and clean this place off those rodents!' He nodded on this thought.

He decided to wait things out and let his turret installations do the work.

He is sure that they can't get to the second floor. He made a lot of defenses in this floor in fear of some sort of creature managing to get to this point.

".... Right. I think I have to make more preparations!"

He still felt a bit unsure about things. If he really want to wait things out, he have to make sure that his base won't be breached.

He decided to upgrade his room.

After he is done with his room, he created two laser turrets outside his room, just besides the obsidian door and upgraded these two.

After he is done with that, he felt satisfied with the defenses.

"I have 11 upgrades left."

He tries to think about what to do with it. Nothing really came to mind so he decided to just stop thinking about it.

"I'll put most of it on my strengthening."

He knows he have to strengthen his body now. It improves his performance greatly, and even enables him to react to things that he shouldn't have without upgrading his body.

If he become more stronger, he won't have to be scared of those rats. He needs more power than ever.

"I just have to keep on improving!"

He is glad that he have this power. By just sitting here, he will become stronger overtime. He didn't need to go around and risk his life for it. He just have to be safe, and everything will just get better.

Thus the start of himself holing up inside his room.

He didn't dare leave the room, in fear of those rats suddenly jumping to him.

He'll wait it out until he can't hear the turrets outside. He really won't know because his room is soundproof, though he can open his door for a bit to hear the sound of shots so he will occasionally do that.

Other than that, he is strengthening his body. Everytime he got 30 upgrades, he will put points on each parts of his body, making him more stronger.

To distract himself and pass the time, he is using his phone, exercising, or trying some of the food on ODO. He is also talking to his systems, which his systems obliged.

A week passed, and he is becoming a bit impatient.

His body looks a lot more stronger now. His muscles are ripped and hard, though it is not too much that it can be said to be too excessive. His senses are more sharper now, that he can hear the sound of turrets outside his room even when it's close.

This is still not enough for him. But he is becoming restless just staying here.

"Damn. I didn't thought this would be that hard!" He said.

The rats are unrelenting it seems. He haven't checked, but just by the sounds of turrets alone, it seems like he underestimated how much infested this place are.

"No! I have to wait this out! Maybe a month?"

"Right, I'll wait this out for a month. I can't be too hasty here! That will get me in serious trouble!"

Even when he is saying that, he still can't help the feeling of restlessness and impatience within him.

Staying here cooped up and hearing the sound of turrets below is mentally taxing. He didn't want to go insane with paranoia.

The logical thing to do is to wait it out and be safe. Trying to be some badass exterminator will turn him into a corpse. That won't help anyone.

He didn't forget his true objective why he wanted to survive. There is the reason that he don't want to die, but he also have to look for his family.

He have to be careful with his life, or nothing of note will happen if he goes out there.

"But..."

His lips thinned at the prospect of waiting this out.

There is a possibility that there are millions of giant rats somewhere. If his defense mechanism can't even detect this rats, then they might be located somewhere that his defenses can't reach.

The underground!

Specifically, this building's underground level!

He don't know if there is something like that here, though he didn't take that possibility off his mind. Rats are known to be living everywhere, even under the ground. So he thinks the giant rats can also do that.

The only thing that his defense mechanisms can't target is the building itself. He lives here so it is obvious.

It's a major flaw. Which is not really something he can fix, unless he didn't care about his life. Bringing destruction to the rats using those destructive weapons will also kill him, turning it into a mutual destruction.
