35 Investigating the Outpost

It was in afternoon when he was called by his units, this time from the Squad F. Now, he is looking at the feed that shows the outpost.

"That's the outpost? It looks more like a town than an encampment!"

On the screen, he can see a stone wall covering the whole place. There are some turrets above it, which is a surprise honestly. Then there are some people manning up the walls while carrying assault rifles.

His units weren't detected as they got inside. The Alientechs have a stealth option that seems capable of hiding their appearance from everyone.

He heard people all have powers, though it seems like his units managed to get inside even if they have some sort of power to detect moving entities.

Inside the place, he can see a large mansion on the middle. Then there are many cottages and some huts created from here and there. The road is a bit haphazard, being paved and unpaved at the same time.

Currently, Neil is sitting on the chair on the meeting room. Along with him are two of his Supreme Systems eating some desserts on the other side of this oval table.

"By the way, why did you ask for money?"

It seems like they saw what he is doing despite being on another room. Being a System seems to make them aware what their User is doing.

Not seeing anything interesting for now, he turns his attention to the redhead.

"Actually, I wanted to try something with it."

Yes. That's all he wanted to do with it.

His power is to upgrade everything, and his power can somehow discern the origin of an area or an object.

Like the doorless area, it somehow knows a door is supposed to be there.

He wanted to see what would happen if he upgrades the coin. Will it turn into something else?

It's a stupid thing, but he wanted to see how much he can push it.

In fact, he has been contemplating whether to upgrade some of his things and turn it into ridiculous stuff. Though that's only in his thoughts. He didn't have a plan to upgrade something so much they turn into a System.

"Hmm... we can create their currency though. The robots are digging a hole outside and is turning it into a mine." Odette said while feeling curious.

"Yeah. But I think it would be suspicious if I just give them something for free."

That's the other reason. Giving things for free will make him suspicious.

He knows this is the post apocalyptic era. Free things are nonexistent here.

If he tries to give things, a lot of people will try and ask for his help. It will be a neverending spiral of helping the others.

But he learned that trading in this world is normal, thanks to that group. So he will use that reason to give food.

Food is not a matter to him anymore. He have unlimited pizzas, and unlimited water at that.

In fact, he felt like he is cheating the other party by taking their money. Coins here seems to be something essential despite being in this post apocalyptic era. Large communities seems to be trying to act like they are still a civilization, despite not being able to dominate the world anymore.

So money is still needed. It is in case the survivors go to a big enough community to trade for things.

Because he didn't need to worry about food, it felt like he is giving them dirt to get their candies. That's just unfair no matter who you ask for it.

'Some people would say it's stupid. It's food so it's the most valuable thing in this current world. Still, I can't help but feel like that.'

While he has been contemplating, he got disrupted by his thoughts when his phone prompted him.

["Squad F reporting. We have covered every path inside this community. Awaiting orders, sir"]

He gestured for Odette to be silent for a bit as he turn his attention back to his phone. The girl shrugs before partaking on more sweets.

"Okay. Try going inside the buildings. Get any info that you can have."

["Roger!"]

With that, it's another series of seeing his robots going inside the cottages and huts. His face scrunched up in dissatisfaction as he sees some of the malnourished people staying there.

A file has been given to him, which is a compilation of info they got by roaming the streets of this community. He takes his attention off on the live feed and decided to read it.

His eyes turned dark as he reads the preliminary analysis of his scouts.

Brigg's forces seems to be living like brigands. They take everything from the workers and uses it for themselves. Some of these people are drinking some cheap ale, which seems to be a luxury in this place, while ignoring the people suffering from starvation.

Then, the state of life of the workers. His blood boils in rage as he reads the words written in it.

Every people not part of Brigg's forces are considered workers. These workers included even children and women. They were forced to work on making building materials, building some bases, maintaining their vehicles, making their food, and creating other products like clothes just for a meager sum.

Males were forced to go outside and gather resources like wood and stone. Then they were also forced to become bait for monsters so Brigg's forces will be safe.

Beautiful women were being taken by Brigg and his men just to have fun inside his mansion. They were given some beautiful clothes and a nice meal, but it's all to maintain their beauty.

The more he reads about it, the more his anger is just rising. This is just truly deplorable.

'This is an act that completely ignores the human rights!'

Even if he felt indignant about it, he half expected this since the day he learned that everything in this world are affected by the apocalypse.

If a person needs to survive, laws and stability are completely ignored for their own selfish goals. It will be like on nature where it's kill or be killed.

Still, he didn't like it. Just because the world has turned into chaos doesn't mean he have to follow their lead. That's just a convenient setup that will turn him into a braindead person who thinks he is on top of the world.

He will stay on his principles. Being a decent person who won't just abuse his powers just because he can.

The file that has been passed to him is being constantly updated. Some of the scouts seems to have come inside the mansion without being noticed.

Just like the info, there are many sexy ladies who are roaming around the mansion and cleaning it. It seems like even when they were given some preferential treatment, they were still seen as their servants.

The feed is not showing it to him because it is focused on one of the units from Squad F, which is going to their armory to inspect it. So he can only rely on the files that were being constantly updated.

He is surprised when they found out another piece of information. A person named Michael Wilkins seems to be a strong person. His powers seems to have something to do with speed.

He didn't know what is so special about it. Superspeed might sound so amazing, but he is also fast enough to keep up with a speeding race car, so it is not so special anymore.

Then, another info pique his interest.

"Hm?" He squinted his eyes at the data written on it.

There is a person there named Lisa Brighton. It seems like she is special because she also have her own System. Though, this system seems to be limited to food.

She is currently one of the women living in this mansion. She's an unwilling resident it seems, and is rebellious against the people here. She is being constantly "Punished" by the guys in this manor. The details about it is murky, though he can get a guess what is it.

Along with it, they heard from the girl herself about someone named Bridgette. Quickly looking through the city, it seems like some of the scouts within the city are just near this person. It is a hooded girl who seems to be blending well with the people here.

It seems like units are capable of even getting close to a person without that person noticing. They have ventured on the bathroom, the bedroom, and even the basement of the manor and no one managed to detect them.

His face turned furious as he learned what happened. It seems like his units have some ways to extract information by just scanning the place without being notice.

There seems to be slavery in this world. Lisa and Bridgette are sisters, and they are slaves owned by someone named Mr. Fu. A group of five people seems to have offended Mr. Fu somehow, and they tried to break out Bridgette before she was shipped off to Brigg's Outpost as a final offense to this Mr. Fu.

This group of people are being hunted it seems, and Brigg was also tasked of finding them.

Now alone, it seems like Brigg is taking his frustration out of her sister. It might be because Mr. Fu blamed him for Bridgette's escape, despite not having anything to do with it.

It is honestly disgusting. Slaves existing on this world.

The concept of slavery is long gone on the modern world. The very thought of turning someone into an unwilling servant is deplorable, and he can't help but feel anger at that fact.

There seems to be some sort of special device in the form of a choker. It can only be created by some people who have Engineering abilities, it seems. This choker is a Slave Seal, which forces a person wearing it to obey whoever holds the seal that is paired with it.

The practice is disgusting. He didn't want to even imagine how this Slave Seal came to be.

'I see... I have been too naive!'

He felt like punching himself, thinking that these people can be redeemed at all. It is impossible if slavery is seen as normal by them.

They have already left their own conscience if they are even willing to have slaves at all.

"Change of plans."

The two girls and the maids looks at him curiously.

"I want to enact a rescue operation."

He didn't want to learn more. He have enough evidence to convince him that these people are just scums.

He won't go all the way and kill them. He is not even involved with this. What he will do is just go and rescue them all. Along the way, he will tell his units to just incapacitate these piece of trashes.

He won't try and become like them. He will do this in his own way.

"Tonight. I'll have you all focus on rescuing everyone."

["Roger"]

He have decided that, but he didn't know where he should be taking them after rescuing them. He didn't want it to be his area. He still don't know whether these poor people are trustworthy.

'I'll just think about it when it comes!' He decided.

Thus, he works on a new project in his mind. Saving the people from Brigg's tyranny.
