220 Kyle

Every day was the same. The boys came, had breakfast, talked a lot of shit, left for one business or the other, gathered here to eat lunch, some would leave while two or more would stay to prepare dinner. They all came back to sleep. The next day the cycle would be repeated. They all ignored me other than to ensure I ate or took a shower. It was like having twenty-four hours of surveillance.

There was not much to say, so I did what they wanted and nothing more. I was appreciative of what they were doing. They didn't patronize me into talking about what happened or my feelings. They left me alone. They talked about the outside world among each other. Every night at dinner or during breakfast, they would discuss the activities in Redwood.

I happened to hear most of it. Not that I cared. Redwood was not my responsibility.

I strolled into the kitchen to their hushed conversation. It was lunchtime and everyone was back.
