Chapter 2 — Awakening.

Sidonia Hospital | 12:00 PM. | Restricted Room.

'I can't see and it's cold...'

Jason calmly looked at everything before his limited sight. To put in simple words, all he could see was complete darkness. He also lost every feelings from his various senses—only the cold sensation wrapping around him brought peace.

However, remaining very calm and cool-headed in this kind of situation was very difficult to maintain. Jason couldn't stop his anxiousness from drowning himself. It was suffocating and so difficult to breath—that is if he could even actually breath.

Was he already dead?

Or was he in Hell or Heaven?

Jason pondered over it deeply, and it helped him relax a little bit. He then remembered that his last memory was getting hit by a flying truck that he assumed killed himself.

⟨ Awakening Host 00... ⟩

⟨ 30%... ⟩

⟨ 50%... ⟩

⟨ 80%... ⟩

⟨ 100%... ⟩

⟨ Awakening Complete! ⟩

A voice interrupted his train of thoughts, causing Jason to be surprised and alarmed.

The voice sounded strange and it was also quite endearing. It sounded like a robot and was cold enough to make him shiver.

It also resounded clearly throughout the darkness, causing his temples to throb painfully.

Jason was quite glad about this unexpected development. He could still feel pain, and this meant he was still not dead yet.

And judging from what he heard from the voice, it must likely be his own unique cheat given only to protagonist.

A golden finger!

Jason had read enough fanfic and novels to quickly understand it. Being slow-witted wasn't his forte.

His surroundings suddenly started getting brighter and being filled with various colorful lights. The cold and lonely darkness was fading away quickly.

A warm breeze was brushing against his skin, distant noises filling his ears, and a sterile smell entered his nose. His various senses were gradually awakening from its long slumber.

This must be what the voice meant by awakening!

Jason slowly sat up from a bed and felt his entire body being stiff to move, as if he haven't moved for hundreds of years. He looked around confusedly, seeing he was inside an unfamiliar room.

It seemed to be like a hospital room guessing by the various medical instruments.

⟨ How are you feeling, Host 00? ⟩

Jason flinched slightly in surprise. He stood up and searched everywhere, including his own body, but couldn't find where the voice originated.

'Weird... could it be talking inside my head...?'

⟨ You are precisely correct, Host. I am speaking inside your mind. ⟩

⟨ I am an alien parasite existing inside of your mind and body. Therefore, you and I are one from today onwards. ⟩

"What do you meant by that...!?"

Jason's face lost its colour—he was horrified to find out the thing inside of him was not like a system from those novels, but instead an alien parasite.

The keyword parasite was enough to make him terrified, but it was also accompanied with alien, making it even worse.

As far as he knows, alien parasite are evil and worse than system.

⟨ .... (￣ヘ￣;) ⟩

Jason moved around frantically before stumbling upon a large mirror placed on the wall. He was then shocked to see his appearance being the same yet also different.

He was still handsome, but it suddenly became more defined and enhanced. His face shape, and black hair was still the same, but his eyes were different from what he remembered.

His right eye still had the same familiar pitch black colour, but his left eye shone eerily with a metallic crimson glow.

"What the hell happened to me...!?"

⟨ Please calm down. I do not mean any kind of harm. I am your ally, a 'good' parasite that exist to solely help you survive and live. This changes of you happened because of you merging with me. ⟩

Jason's complexion paled even further—It was now white as paper when he saw 'his' crimson eyes slowly emerging out from its own socket.

The mechanical crimson eye arrived in front of him with the help of a metal-like tendril.

Jason gulped down a mouthful of saliva. He was stunned and speechless

⟨ Have you calmed down, Host 00? ⟩

Nod, nod!

Jason quickly nodded his head, and tried to calm himself down while still trying to process everything.

⟨ I will now explain things to you and you can ask some questions. And yes, I am taking to you through the direct transmission of my electrical signal through the use of your nerves. ⟩

Jason nodded while inwardly thinking that he didn't asked about that weird stuff.

⟨ ....Okay... ⟩

"So, Mr. Alien Parasite, tell me where I am, and what you are?"

⟨ It's a bit complicated to explain it toward a human like you, but in layman term, you're currently in the future. ⟩

Jason expression changed, not believing what the alien said

"What future? How could I believe such a nonsensical thing? Its been proven by many scientists that its impossible to time-travel!"

⟨ However, it is indeed the truth. When I placed you to hibernate to survive, we now arrived in the distant future where the Earth is destroyed. ⟩

"The earth is destroyed...?"

⟨ Remember the time you died? The earthquake, the thunderstorm, and shattered sky were not natural phenomenon. It was caused by the aliens who came to eradicate all humankind. Thought, I do not know what happened afterwards. I am just certain that Earth is already destroyed. ⟩

"Yeah, I do remember something like that happening," Jason could only nod, it was difficult to digest all of that information. Especially, when he really experienced death. It was somehow unsettling.

He then remembered about a certain girl before shaking his head to forget about her.

"If the earth is already destroyed, where are we right now?"

⟨ While you were still unconscious, I tried to gather some information. Based on it, we are currently residing inside an intergalactic seed ship called Sidonia. A remnant of humanity to escape extinction. ⟩

Jason was surprised to see himself not that shocked anymore.

"So why me? Why did an alien like you choose me? You even revive me..."

⟨ It could just be a coincidence or even fate. When the aliens called Gauna came, I also accidentally came with them while being injured. You were the only person I could merge with at that time. ⟩

Jason laughed dryly after hearing it was just a coincidence. However, he got the chance to live again so he might as well live to the fullest.

⟨ Also, since we are two in one, you will need to help me complete my mission to explore the universe and unravel mysteries. ⟩

Jason felt it was gonna be dangerous, he didn't wanted to be involved.

⟨ Oh I also forgot to say this, but we can not separate from each other for the rest of our life and that we are gonna die soon. ⟩

"...."

"Eh? Wh-Why all of a sudden?"

⟨ Energy Deficiency. ⟩

⟨ Although I restored your body and even modified it to become superhuman, you are still technically already dead. I am keeping you alive now by using my energy which is my like my lifespan. The moment it ran out, both of us are dead. ⟩

"So...?"

⟨ And right now, that energy is limited and not unlimited which can't last us for a long time. We need to kill the aliens I mentioned before and absorb its core to keep us alive. ⟩

"Are you serious...?" Jason mouth was slightly agape.

They were doomed. He had just gained a second chance, but it seemed to be short-lived.

Although he once loved fighting aliens in the former virtual simulator back then, it was different for real life.

It would definitely be a traumatic and scary moment.

He also had a rich mecha pilot experiences, but he didn't even know if there's a robot to fight against alien in this ship.

As Jason was despairing over this fact, someone opened the door and looked at him with shocked face.

He also looked at them in surprise.
