1 Wait For Me

Sometimes, you feel promises are a waste because most people dont keep them. But true promises can never be broken. No matter what force that tries to destroy it.
Natalie laid underneath the rain with no shelter, the smile on her face was as bright as ever, the look in her eyes as she stared at the one boy she loved.
Being a high school graduate as of that day, she was more than overjoyed. She turned down many offers from her friends to hang out with them just so she could stay with Pheonix, her boyfriend.
They both have been dating for a year now but they were still the most faithful couple imaginable. No one expected they had to leave each other.
"Nat?" Phoenix spoke as he propped himself up from the ground underneath the rain.
"What's up?" Natalie responded.
"Nat, I have a problem. My parents insisted I travel to Italy and complete my studies there. I know I promised to be with you everywhere you go but you have a life here in New York so I cant trouble you to come with me. I promise that I'll be back and you have to promise to wait for me. Please."
Natalie stared at him for a while then replied a 'yes'
"Thanks. I swear on my life that I'll come back for you"Those were the last words she heard from him before he left.
A few days after he left, Natalie was involved in an accident which led to her losing her memories of everything that happened that year. She remembered everything except the one year she dated Pheonix and so forgot her promise to him.

8 years later.....
Munching down on a bag of chips and watching a movie on her laptop was a 23 year old Natalie. She had round purple rimmed glasses around her deep scarlet eyes which were wet with tears. The scene of the movie was were the female lead was weeping over the death of the male lead after a battle.
A loud annoying sound rang out from her bedside table. It was her phone. She paused the movie and picked up the phone.
"Doctor Westwood, a patient was just admitted and is in dire need of surgery." The nurse that called sounded really scared as her voice was a bit shaky.
"But I just got off my shift." Natalie was actually confused on why she was asked for. And why on earth didn't this wait till after my movie.
"The hospital is in quite a predicament now. You will understand when you get here." The nurse spoke and when Natalie ended the call, she dashed to get changed.
On arriving at the hospital, Natalie was immediately greeted with a ruckus. It seemed like a few surgeons were being scolded by a patient's family members. A woman sat on the floor weeping while some other family members tried to pick up fights with the other surgeons.
A nurse then walked over to her and she was led straight to the emergency room were the patient was.
"Give me the patient's details" Natalie ordered the nurse as they made their way to the room.
"The patient was leaving an airport but was shot on the shoulder leading to severe blood loss." The nurse filled Natalie on with the details and they finally arrived at the room.
Without wasting time, the surgery began.
After an hour, the surgery was done successfully.
The patient was then shifted to a VIP ward as instructed by his parents that arrived not too long after the surgery began. Natalie walked up to his parents.
"Doctor,please how is our son?" His Mom asked obviously filled with fear.
"Your son is okay. The surgery was successful and his condition has been stabilised. He'll be up by tomorrow morning or afternoon. " Natalie assured the couple.
"Thank you so much." His father thanked Natalie and she nodded before she walked forward. Before she could go far, the couple called out to her.
"Please can we have your name?"
"I'm Doctor Natalie Westwood." Natalie explained briefly.
"Okay Doctor Westwood, please can we leave our son permanently in your care. He needs proper supervision and we wish for you to handle him." The lady spoke.
"Understood. Your son is in reliable hands." Natalie smiled and then walked away.
The couple stared at her back for a while before the lady spoke. "Andrew,Doesn't that lady look familiar?"
Andrew looked at his wife then back at the lady."I guess she does."

Natalie took off her surgical dress and went to the lounge to wash up. She got into a black skin-tight dress that stopped above her knee and a pair of flats. She then wore a doctor's coat over the dress and walked to the patient in the VIP ward.
She opened the door to the ward and went on to sit beside his bed. She picked up details and went through it.
NAME : PHEONIX PORTMAN
AGE : 26
GENDER : MALE
BLOOD TYPE: O
GENOTYPE : AA
DIAGNOSIS : BULLET WOUND AND BLOOD LOSS.
NO BONE FRACTURES.
CONDITION : STABLE
As Natalie read through his details she felt something strange. His name sounded slightly familiar but she just couldn't put a finger on it. She then proceeded to check his wound just to be sure that everything was all right. After another series of checks she left the hospital. She still had a movie to complete.
