Supposed Happiness

Rachel's P.O.V

"Yes," I cheered in the empty apartment that I had gotten earlier this year thanks to my hard work. "I'm free," I added as I spun in a circle in the master bedroom

Today I was going to graduate from the high school that gave me more troubles than solutions causing me to live with some friends before I got this apartment. All throughout the preparations for the big day I tapped my feet in excitement. I curled my hair and did a little makeup before I put on a light blue dress that ended just before my knees. Before I put on my cap and gown I strapped on the character shoes that I most likely won't wear until my next graduation. I then shrugged on my gown, zipping it up before I put the cap on. Before I left the apartment I took a mirror picture and posted it on it on Snapchat with the caption 'Today's the day!'

"About time you got here, Rachel," Pandora's mom said as I made it to her car

"Sorry mom, the curling iron took a while," I said, "whats the need to be picked up so early?"

"Do you honestly think you're not going to be celebrated for your graduation when we're celebrating Pans?"

I chuckled, "I suppose not," I said with a grin as she pulled out into the street next to the apartment complex

Pandora's P.O.V

I lay on my back looking at the ceiling as tears rolled down my cheeks, I was leaving these friends some of whom I won't see until ten or twenty-year reunions. I was already wearing the dress along with some makeup but not enough to have it ruined by my crying. If it wasn't my two younger siblings I would've started bawling my eyes out right in the middle of my bed.

"Pan," they cheered as one of them jumped on my stomach and I instinctively curled up into a ball as pain shot up inside my stomach

"Hey guys, what's up," I said as I wiped the tears from my eyes now smiling

"There's a surprise for you but we have to lead you to it," Luke said before running off as Cici covered my eyes after pushing me off the bed

After running into the wall, a second time and Cici giggling at it I sighed, "How about we do this Ci," I began. "I cover my own eyes while you lead me to where I need to go is that okay?"

There's was a moment of silence before her high-pitched voice answered, "Okay," in my ears

I knelt to let her off and she quickly slid off my back, as soon as I saw the wall in front of me I turned toward the doorway before covering my eyes. I then gave her my hand so she could lead me to wherever the surprise was. Soon I felt her hand slip out of mine and I stood in the middle of somewhere with my back aching and my eyes still covered

"Can I uncover my eyes now Ci," I asked as she giggled before answering

"Yeah."

As soon as I did I gasped as I saw the crowd of people in front of me, there were family members that I haven't seen since I was in fifth grade. My best friend, Rachel, stood next to my mother beaming with happiness as many of my underclassmen friends smiled in front of a table that had gifts on it. Over the table read a banner saying 'Congratulations Grads' on it.

"Surprise," the crowd cheered as tears of happiness pricked at the corner of my eyes

"You didn't have to do this," I said as my hands covered my mouth in shock and Rachel approached me

"You think your mother didn't leave the house early for nothing," she began, "this is as much for me as it is for you but the surprise was more for you."

Just then some kids came running up to me with small gifts in their hands, "Pan, Rachel come and open your gifts."

I then looked at Rachel whose eyes were as wide as I've ever seen them, "Did you expect a grad party with my family and think that you weren't going to receive gifts?"

"Yes," she began as we walked to the table, "your mother said nothing about me getting anything."

"Rach," I began as I was handed a box and felt my cap being put on my head, "you gotta remember that you're a part of this family now. We grew up together and we're practically sisters so stop thinking that you're not going to get gifts."

Rachel chuckled as she tore open her gift, "All right," she said before gasping at what was in the box. After the mini grad party with my family, Rachel was tugging at my arm in anticipation and excitement. "Come on Pan, we're going to be late," she said as I zipped up my gown

"All right I'm coming, chill," I said with a chuckle as I grabbed my keys, "See you guys at the ceremony," I said before I stepped out of the house and caught up to Rachel who was already standing by my car. "Impatient much," I asked as I approached the driver's side of the vehicle.

"To say that I successfully graduated from a school that practically ruined my life as I was trying to make a name for myself," she began with a smile. "Yes, yes I am but I'd call it more excited than impatient."

I chuckled unlocking the car, "Get in the car you fool," I began as I opened my door. "Remember, you owe me a sleepover at your place tonight, I already have my things packed in the back seat."

"All right, bet," she said as she buckled her seatbelt, "let's graduate first."

I chuckled as I pulled out of the driveway, "Agreed," I said as we headed to the theater where our graduation was to be held.

Zach's P.O.V

I sighed as I rounded the corner heading to the theater, of course, my parents couldn't care enough to give me a ride to my graduation. My gown was unzipped for ventilation as I wore a light blue button-down dress shirt and the dress pants that went with my suit. As I was about to round another corner an old man stopped me, making me almost drop my cap which was tucked under my arm.

"Excuse me, kind sir," he began as I tried to keep walking but he stood in front of me, "are you one of the graduates this year?"

"Yes," I sighed as I tried to get around him, I was going to be cutting it close if this wacko didn't get out of my way soon

"Is there a way that you could give this to a Zachary Bennett?"

I stopped trying to get around the old man once he said my name, "Yeah," I began but he shoved a wrapped box under my other arm and ran off before I could tell him that he just gave it to the recipient. I sighed looking at the box real quick before deciding to open it once the ceremony was over. It was plainly wrapped with brown paper and some string so I was guessing that it wasn't anything too important if an old homeless man gave it to me. I made it to the line-up room with little time to spare so, with a sigh, I put the box under a chair and zipped up my gown before putting my cap on.

All too soon everyone was graduated and talking to their friends and family, I squeezed through the crowd to get the box. Once I got it, I set my diploma on top of it and went to find my family when my two best friends stopped me.

"We did it," Rachel cheered spinning in a circle

Pan chuckled looking at her friend that I could swear up and down she had feelings for, "What's in the box," she asked nodding towards the gift I was given

I shrugged as I looked at it once more, "Dunno," I answered as I picked at the string. "Some weird old guy came up to me asking if I could give it to a Zachary Bennett and then gave it to me after I said yes. He ran off before I could tell him that it was me," I explained the two wide-eyed best friends

Pan scrunched her nose in confusion as well as Rachel, "You do have a weird family," Rachel began as she looked at the choice of wrapping paper. It could be a great uncle who doesn't want to restore family ties or something."

I shrugged as I felt the curiosity ebbing at my mind, "Maybe," I began drawing out the 'may' as I looked over the box once more. "Let's see what's inside," I finished as I started ripping off the paper, the two girls bouncing on their feet excitedly as the brown paper fell to the floor at our feet. "Why's this heating up," I asked as I peeked inside the metallic box before I saw black

Third Person P.O.V

Little did the new graduates know at the time of their discussion was that Rachel was right with her suggestion. Only this family member's plans were a little more devious than what she thought. The old man chuckled as he watched his great-grandson tear at the paper. The paper opened to reveal a box that would soon explode the whole area. Even though he would die but he was fine with that, he thought that he should die with the rest of his family. He leaned back against the wall clutching the dog tags that he had made so he could be identified once the explosion happened.

Once it did happen there was a black crater with a radius of ten feet that covered the area where the theater once was. It was enough to kill the entire class of 2319 along with their family and their friends. Minutes too late the SWAT came in five vans to survey the scene. Even the police force lost some bodies in the explosion but that didn't stop more officers from coming flanked by several ambulances. Sadly, once the first responders arrived there were only the skeletal remains of the once happy scene. They didn't understand how this happened until they came up to a skeleton that seemed to have more of the impact. Its head was blown off as well as its hands but the skeleton was still intact as it layed there holding a black metallic box. The first responders didn't know this until the SWAT team looked inside the box that a once alive Zachary Bennett held had one slip of paper inside it that read.

'May the Bennett family rest in the flames of Hell and may I live in the peace of Heaven -J'

Still confused, the group of first responders walked through the scene only stopping once they came across a skeleton who seemed like he was leaning on a wall that was once there at the time of the explosion. Its arms were crossed and it looked like the jaw was open in some sort of scream or laugh when he died. As the first responders were moving the skeleton they found out it was holding something in its hands. After they pried the stiff fingers open they found out they were dog tags that seemed to have been the only thing that survived the explosion. Once they took ahold of them the read the name that was worn on the tags

'Jason Bennett'
