1 Chapter 1 Death

(***Sonja POV***)

In a dark forest waits a beautiful woman an attractive vampire, with fair skin, long, wavy dark brown hair and brown eyes. Soon a handsome brown haired blue eyed man appeared from the woods and approached her. They were the lycan Lucian and the vampire Sonja. It turns out that these two had been lovers the whole time which was forbidden by the vampires.

Lucian had been born into slavery and his master was Sonja's father Viktor. To keep her father from learning of the affair Sonja acts cruelly to Lucian in public to prevent his suspicion. As such there are very few times and places that they can show affection towards one another. They kiss rather passionately unable to control the desire that they had been repressing for months. After some lovemaking Lucian asks if Sonja would go with him if he attempts to escape.

"My father would never let us you and you know that. He would kill us both." said Sonja

"Even I don't think he would harm you. At worst he would kill me." said Lucian

"And I would not allow that to happen. If I lose you then all is lost." said Sonja

Sonja believed that escape was impossible as Lucian would be hunted down by Viktor and his army. Lucian reveals that he had created a replica key so that he may remove the collar on his neck. All lycan slaves must wear a collar with spikes pointing inward to prevent them from transforming. Should they attempt to transform then they die from impaling themselves on the spikes. If Lucian could get out of his collar, he would be able to fight back and increased their chance of escape. Sonja however does not wish for Lucian to risk his life.

Lucian on the other hand believed that both lycan and vampire kind should be equals. That for them to live in peace then the races must come together in peace. He wanted to be free to love Sonja without prejudice.

When parting Sonja and Lucian were unaware that Tannis, one of Viktor's lieutenants, sent to watch over Sonja had seen them together. Tannis later sees Lucian, and subtly lets Lucian know that he knows their secret.

Sonja had disobeyed her father's orders and taken some vampire guards arrive to escort some human nobles to the castle when they hear howling in the distance. Lucian then hears howling coming from the direction that Sonja went towards and knows that there are more wolves than Sonja can handle. Lucian tries desperately to warn the others to go help Sonja, but no one listens to him. He then decides run out to save Sonja attacking any of the guards who stand in his way.

Meanwhile Sonja and vampires are holding the werewolves back, but there are too many. One of the human slaves decides to fight wolves along with the vampires and actually survives. Sonja however is injured; Lucian arrives in time and begins to defend her. Lucian makes the decision to use his key to open his collar and transform thus ruin his chance of escape to save Sonja. The human slave that fought alongside the vampire was nearby and marvels at the power of the transformed Lucian. Viktor arrive and Lucian changes back to human form. Lucian is beaten and arrested, after saving Sonja's life. As it is forbidden for a lycan slave to transform without the command of his vampire owners. Sonja tries to plead with Viktor to free Lucian, but he refuses on the ground that he can not allow any form of disobedience. Lucian is sentenced to a severe lashing with a whip is tipped with huge hooks and tears up Lucians back. After his punishment, Lucian is dragged back into his cage. Next to a prison cell with the human slaves and he meets the brave human who had fought the werewolves before. The human named Raze is in the cage next to Lucian, and gives him water to drink.

Viktor grows suspicious of Sonja after she pleads for Viktor to release Lucian, but she hurriedly claims that she's a noble and was just showing gratitude for saving her life.

Lucian and Raze with Raze mentioning that he saw what happened in the forest when the wolves appeared to obey Lucian. Lucian begins to inspire the newly turned lycan slaves with ideas of escape. Bribing a guard Sonja appears before Lucian but he tells her that she has to leave. He mention Tannis as a person to possible trusted since he knows their secret but did not tell Viktor, it means that he wants to make a deal.

Viktor meets with the human nobles who are expected to pay tribute in exchange for protection from the wolves. This year's tribute however is extremely low, and Viktor demanded more due to increased attacks from the wolves. A male noble is fed up and proclaims that Viktor and his army are losing, and can barely keep the wolves from their own door. Viktor kills the nobleman and controls the nobles through fear.

Lucian starts to rally the lycans for a rebellion. In Sonja's room, she reminisces of Viktor giving her a medallion when she was younger. Sonja goes to Tannis demands to know why he did not reveal the truth to Viktor. Tannis explains that Viktor would most likely kill him when he delivered the news so it's better in his interest to trade the information with Sonja. Tannis wanted a seat on the vampire council, and since there are only 12 seats and vampires don't die normally. Sonja agrees to give Tannis her seat on the council for his help in freeing Lucian.

Sonja goes to Lucian and tells him that Viktor plans to execute him the next evening, and that he has to leave at dawn if he is to survive. They agree to meet in the forest in three days. As Tannis walks by, he tosses a collar key to Lucian.

The human slaves are brought out and are purposely bitten by a transformed lycan to change them into lycans so they can serve as slaves and guards for the vampires. Lucian talks to the newly transformed lycans (including Raze) and talks them into joining him in escaping/revolting.

As the guard (the one who whipped Lucian) comes in to check on the slaves, Lucian removes his collar, transforms, and shreds him. The slaves break free, subdue their guards, and make a break for it. The guards notice this pretty quickly and turn their crossbows on the lycans. Many of the lycans are killed before getting very far, and many others are separated by a barrage of arrows. Lucian has no choice but to escape with the few slaves that got free, but vows to return for the others. Lucian continues to charge outward, running into two vampires and throwing them and him out a window and out into the open. As they fall from the top of the castle, the guards turn to dust (its daytime), and Lucian lands safely on the ground. The few other lycans follow Lucian and make their escape.

Viktor is rather angry and notices that the collars were unlocked. He had given Tannis the key that Lucian had made, and believes that Tannis has betrayed him, but he claims that he had locked the key in the armory and asks Viktor to check to prove his innocence.

Outside, Lucian and the four other lycans have made it to the surrounding forests, but instead of fleeing, Lucian plans to return to the castle to save his brethren. They have no weapons and are few in number, so Lucian asks Raze to lead him back to the noblemen's estate so they are get the supplies and soldiers they need.

At the castle armory, Tannis finds the key that he had put away. Viktor believes that Lucian must have made another one and Tannis gets off the hook.

Cut back to Lucian and the other lycans. Lucian has freed the human slaves that belonged to the nobleman (the one that was killed by Viktor). Lucian asks them to volunteer to help them, and if they choose to, be granted immortality through becoming a lycan. The freed slaves agree and they prepare for battle making weapons and arming themselves. Lucian sends Raze to other estates to recruit more soldiers.

Viktor is back at the castle, pacing about and steps over a loose metal grate, the same one Lucian used to sneak out and meet with Sonja. He follows the passageway to Sonja and Lucian's secret meeting place.

Back to Lucian, he heads into the woods and meets/recruit the wolves. The wolves do not attack Lucian and seem to listen to him.

Viktor arrives in Sonja's room, and questions her about Lucians escape. "It's unlikely that the beast could escape from here without help" he says staring coldly at Sonja

Viktor already suspicious of her and drinks her blood to checks her memories. Viktor goes mad with rage when he realizes that his daughter has betrayed him for Lucian. Viktor then has Sonja imprisoned before he storms out.

Lucian beings to worry when he arrives at the meeting spot only to see that Sonja has not arrived. Lucian insists on waiting for her, but the others do not want to wait; the longer they wait, the more likely they will be found.

At the castle, the council learns that Lucian is rallying the slaves and creating more lycans. The council pressures Viktor to take care Lucian since this situation is one of his doing. Viktor aware that Lucian will return to save Sonja, and prepares for battle. Viktor sends Luka one of Sonja handmaidens to tell Lucian that Sonja will be executed soon. Lucian knowing it is a trap and heads back to the castle anyways.

During the night, Lucian sneaks into the castle, and find Sonja and they attempt to escape together. They escape through the sewers but encounter heavy resistance as Viktor and his men pour oil into the sewers and set the tunnels on fire. Lucian and Sonja jump out and battle the vampires. Lucian is outnumbered and damaged unlike Sonja because Viktor wants her alive. Viktor arrives and battles Sonja, gaining the upper hand Sonja pleas for Viktor to release Lucian for the sake of his unborn grandson. Viktor enraged grabs Sonja's dagger and subdues her. Viktor sees the child as an abomination and believes he has no choice but to punish her as well. Lucian regrets escaping but Sonja tells him that it is not his fault. She also tells him that her choices are hers to make and if she could do it all over again she would make the same choice again.

Sonja and Lucian are dragged out for a trial and Sonja is convicted of treason by the council. Sonja and Lucian are brought into a chamber where Sonja is strung up on a pillar and forced to watch as Lucian is chained and whipped severely. Lucian pleads with Viktor to release Sonja, "She you daughter you can't!" yelled Lucian but it's no use.

"She betrayed me to lay with you a mongrel! Even worse she carries an abomination in her stomach! I swear to you that thing will never see the light of day." said Viktor in a cold and inhuman tone

It will be dawn soon and Sonja will be executed by sunlight. The ceiling opens and Lucian tries to break free to save her, but cannot because he still has the two silver arrowheads buried in his back. Sonja says goodbye and is instantly fried by sunlight. In that instance she felt her organs disintegrate, her skin turn into ash, and a searing pain consumed her before every turned black.
