17 Ch 14: Enjoy the Small Things in Life!

Authors note: wanted to thank the pope of coom for correcting the chess chapter.

Also, we are starting to become a ranked book, although we are still 200+, it is a start.

We also have more powerstones than a fair few of the MHA titles books. This story is definitely going places.

Finally, kind of glad that everyone seemed to enjoy the chess chapter, I was kind of expecting mixed reviews on that one.

Enjoy!

*thunk*!

*crack*!

"Fuck!" I shout as I drop the box and it tumbles back down. Thankfully, I was able to grab it before it fell all the way down but it still caused a crack in the escalator.

"Ugh, whatever, I was planning on removing that anyway."

I set the corner of the box on top of my foot and jump up the escalator one step at a time.

As I reach the top, I simply drop it on the floor, causing a soft *whap!* sound. "Why am I not tired after all of that? I haven't worked out ever since I was around 35!" I wonder to myself, laying down on the ground. "It's not like I was buffed THAT much in the time I've lived down here, right?"

I sit up from where I am laying on the ground.

"I'm guessing it's late. I should lock the doors, right? This is kind of like my home now."

I pull out the letters envelope, where I'm keeping the cards and keys.

"Which one do I need?" I say while standing up. "And where exactly is the keyhole? Asgore said it was around on the far left?" I walk over to the place where Alphys hung a Mettaton poster in the original Undertale, and the same place where my lovely 5 shelf bookshelf stood.

A panel was there. It looked almost the same as the wall, but there was an obvious latch that held it closed. I opened the latch and a keyhole lay inside.

"Feels a little less techy than you would expect for a place like this, but it's fine, so long as it works." I talk to myself as I try key #1.

Nope.

Key #2?

Click!

The latch made a sound, but nowhere else did something seem to happen.

'Well, only one way to find out.' I go downstairs and try the front door.

Nothing. It stays closed when I approach it. I try to pry the doors open. Nothing.

I smile a little. 'At least I have a roof over my head.'

Now I have one last mystery. What's in the small box?

I go to pick it up from the other side of the lab.

It fits in my hand and is about the size of my head. What is it?

I try to rip it open, but it comes off far too easy.

I accidentally fling it across the room.

"Huh? Where did that strength come from?"

I summon a hand to go pick it up.

It has no trouble.

'Hmmm.' I start to think. 'Perhaps… is it my LOVE value?'

I try and punch the ground, lightly. It immediately cracks. I punch the ground again, but with the summoned hand and with all of my strength. It did not crack.

"Interesting… Does my LOVE value not affect my magic? But why? Is there a different representation of how strong my magic gets?"

I summon both of my menus.

"No… it's not there… Do I even need one?" I think to myself. "Is relying on a system necessary? Is there a different way to figure out when my magic gets stronger?…"

"The stressful events!" I realize. "I remember! Every time I've gone through a stressful event, I have gotten stronger!"

I laugh a little at my stupidity and at my not realizing this earlier.

'Let's call this hypothetical ability, "Plot Armor", for now.' I get a kick out of that slight joke.

I mean, I couldn't possibly be in a novel, right?

Right?

I won't be used as the entertainment of thousands, right?

"Alright, I'm guessing my LOVE value is set in stone for now, doubt I could kill enough monsters down here to level up even if I wanted to, which I don't. As for my hands, they can get stronger through stress."

'What should I call them?' I think to myself.

(Authors note: they are originally called "chromas monotone hands, but that feels like too much. Suggestions?)

"I'll think about that later. Now, I want to open the box." I grab the box that I almost forgot about during that whole monologue with my hand and begin lightly tearing at the slightly gaping hole made by accidentally throwing it.

It's an analog alarm clock… It's preset? Why does it already have the time? I don't think that's how clocks work…

(9:37PM)

(ALARM 7:00AM)

"What is it even running on? There aren't any gaps so I can replace batteries!"

The clock ticks softly, despite being analog.

It ticks again.

And again.

My joints and shoulders soften at the comforting and familiar sound.

*Tick*!

I sigh, and then smile, relieved slightly. "I think I will put it on the bookshelf." I tell myself simply, enjoying the ticking and enjoying the life I was given.

"It's a good day!" I say, setting it on the second level, right where my bed should reach.

*Tick*!

——

I rip open the box, with my floating hands this time, having learned my lesson with the alarm clock.

Inside… was the classic IKEA mess.

I groan, concerned that I won't be able to sleep tonight.

"Whatever, I can just fix my sleep schedule tomorrow. I should also be thankful it came with the mattress."

"I'll need to buy a pillow."

I begin to struggle with the mess almost immediately. Black boards of wood and metal beams were strewn all across the level. Speaking of which, what is this type of room called? A room that is at a higher level than another room but is still connected? I'll just call it my room. A lot simpler than thinking over it…

As I try to hand screw one of the screws, a allen wrench falls out of the box.

I sweat drop and grab the wrench and continue to screw.

Soon, I stand back and admire my handiwork.

Why… are there 5 different pieces still left?

I quickly look over the instruction manual.

'I skipped over step 11.' I groan to myself, and try again.

"Finally!" I look at my masterpiece. 'It's simple, but looks nice!'

It was a simple frame, with a quarter circle of wood taken away from the top corners. The backrest of the bed was resting on the bookshelf, causing a slightly small area feel. Thankfully, though, I love that feeling when I am sleeping.

'Finally.' I think this time, a lot calmer, getting ready to have my first relaxing sleep of this life.

'I don't have a blanket.' I look at the time.

(10:31PM)

I smile. 'I can buy one later. For now…

'Lets just enjoy what we have…' I drift to sleep, face first into the mattress

*Tick*!
