14 Ch 11: Any chess players over 500 ELO, here?

Authors note: Somehow, we hit 75 power stones. Fucking 75! Some MHA fanfics don't even get that. I feel like getting to the number 1 undertale fanfic even better than Strength of Will isn't so farfetched anymore. I just wanted to thank yall for everything. I never expected I would be able to make it this far with just a stupid little undertale fanfic. Love yall.

Also we got a lot more comments and even a new review after my comment yesterday, thank yall for that.

Webs.

Cracked tiles.

I looked for a light switch and flicked it on. Half of the tube light bulbs were broken and sparked, the rest flickered as if they would go out any moment.

"What the fuck happened?"

I try to look for anything that could serve as evidence. The webs could serve as a clock, telling me how long its been since the lab has been occupied. The tiles could tell me how much it has been neglected or experiments that have gone wrong.

However, nothing else was here. The upstairs was barren, the table was empty, and the smell coming from the fridge made me not want to open it.

But there was a single working landline phone with a single number saved.

"Asgore - xxx-xxx-xxxx"

"Hmmmm, I think I have an idea!"

(Pov change)

"Dum de Dum," I say to myself in my peace, enjoying the tea as I water my flowers.

I suddenly can't help but worry about the future. 'With the last Royal Scientist dead and nobody to take the role, my kin will lose hope. What should I do?'

I sigh. "We'll get there when we get there."

I quiet down once more as I think about what to do.

"Lovely day for a game of chess or a walk in the park…" I think aloud.

"Your Majesty?"

I turn around at the questioning voice.

"You've got a call… from the Royal Lab.

"W-What?" Incredibly surprised, I continue. "Who would… No, just give me the phone."

"Here, Your Majesty."

"Well, aren't you in a pickle, huh "Your Majesty?'"

"Who is this?" I reply, concerned at the fact that someone is willing to speak to the king of monsters in such a manor. Only someone extremely strong or someone backed by somebody strong would do as such.

"Someone who can help you. This place is quite the mess, you know?"

"I can tell." I reply, getting slightly annoyed. "And do tell me, how do you expect to help me? And what makes you think that I won't send the Royal Guard on you for trespassing?"

"Come on, we both know that someone who is willing to be in this lab is here for only one reason, especially considering the circumstances."

'He… is right. The only reason someone would be there when the scientist is dead is to apply to be a scientist.' I realize. 'But why do it in such a strange manner?' "Alright… tell me why I should hire you."

"You hardly have a choice here, don't you think?"

'Fuck, he has got me. Nobody wants to work as the scientist due to the accident. They hardly want to be in the area!' "How about this? I will come over there and we can talk over a lovely game of chess to see if you should work there?"

"Hmmm interesting.,. Alright, I accept. See you soon."

He hung up.

A shiver goes down my spine. "Who is he?"

(Back to normal pov)

As I hung up the phone, I gave a sigh of relief.

"Judging from his responses, all of my assumptions were correct! An accident in the lab that causes nobody to be here? Obviously there's no Royal Scientist anymore! Nobody in the area, despite an open job? Nobody wants to work that job!

Its too easy!

'I will admit though,' I adjust my thoughts a little. 'The ballsy disrespectful talk was a gamble. I was gambling that Asgore was intelligent at this time to try and understand why I would be disrespectful, instead of just going into a rage. He shouldn't be in the most stable emotional state right now after all. It did pay off, though, now he will not treat me as nothing more than another person. He will be careful.

I tilt my head down and smirk.

"All according to keikaku."

I put my head back up and laugh off the embarrassment a little.

"He will be here soon. Is there a chess board anywhere? Also, on a separate note, kind if strange to choose a game over something else," I started to look around a little. "This place really is barren, huh?"

"Eh," I said simply, brushing it off. "Asgore probably knows that there isn't one here, since he replied "I can tell," to how it looks here. Lets just hope he has the foresight."

He walked slowly, approaching the back end of the lab with two guards beside him. He held a box in his left hand. I simply waited for him at a table I brought outside from the broken lab.

"So you are the one who wants to be a scientist?"

"Yes, that's correct." I reply simply, but professionally. He is testing me now, can't go failing that, right?

He seats himself across from me. "Lovely day for a game of chess!"

I smile and close my left eye. "Yes, a lovely day to have someone who's willing to work for this position." I joke back.

He chuckled as he opened the box, revealing the board. "You say work for the position, I say blackmail me into coming here."

I laugh in response. "Oh, come now, we both know you are happy to see that someone is willing to give the underground some hope. My personality is quite alright as well!"

"I guess we will see." He responds "I will be black."

"I guess I am white then."

And with that note, I look up from the chessboard to see Asgore, smiling kindly, but with a calculating look in his eye, guards towering above him.

'Heh,' I laugh in my head. 'You really know how to intimidate someone, huh?'
