18 The Secret Mission

The journey was very long and tiring. Although Grandma was very active and strong for her age, by the time she arrived at her destination, her body was in need of a great sleep and a warm meal.

She knocked on the door of a wooden shack in the woods, in a city a bit far from where she had left.

A tall black man opened the door, revealing a room full of people.

There were women and men gathered on the couch, the chairs and standing, all of them looking at the door. At her.

“Good evening, Cora. Long time no see.” the man said. He had a very strong English accent.

“Oh, that’s a name I haven’t heard in years.” she smiled. “How are you, Clifford?” she gave him a very maternal hug.

“Very happy to see you.” he stated making way for her to pass.

“Ah, you are all here already.” Grandma said entering the place. “Sorry I’m late. I’m not getting any younger, you know?”

Everyone laughed, welcoming the old lady.

It wasn’t a very big shack, so the room was very crowded, but nobody seemed to be disturbed with that.

One woman came and grabbed her luggage, and another man offered her a plate with some sandwiches and a glass of juice.

Clifford offered a place on the couch for her, sitting in front of her next.

While Grandma ate her sandwiches and rested from the trip, they talked about a lot of nonsense and curiosities about how theirs live had been.

It was a very friendly environment and everyone was very comfortable and lively.

“So, how is Bryce doing, Cora?” Clifford asked curiously.

Everyone was paying attention to the both of them now.

“You know, he was never the easiest guy to deal with.”

Clifford and some others shook their heads in agreement.

“This is one of the reasons I asked you all to come here. We have two problems, which may become one in the near future.”

“And Bryce is one of them?” a woman with curly hair asked.

Grandma nodded.

“And what is the other one?” Clifford raised his brow.

“It's a guy named Shane. I don’t know if you heard of him at this part of the country.”

“No, I don’t think we have.”

“Well, I don’t know much about him either. What I do know is that he’s been asking around about my granddaughter.”

“Selena?” Clifford seemed intrigued. “Why would he be interested in her?”

Grandma looked around before she could say something. She just wanted to make sure that everyone there was someone she trusted, and that there was no one unfamiliar to her.

That was her only chance to make a good plan and help Selena. So she couldn’t make any mistakes.

After ensuring everything was fine, she looked at Clifford again, since he was in front of her.

“All of you know that tale about the Full Moon, right?”

A lot of them nodded in agreement, but a few others remained still, like they had no idea of what she was talking about.

“Ah, of course.” Grandma pat her forehead. “I forgot there was some humans among us tonight.” she smiled at the group that didn’t know about the story.

“Well… Long story short, there is this children tale about a wolf that was blessed by the moon with powers. No one really believes this is real, since we use to tell this story for our kids.”

The group made a sign that they were following the story, and she continued.

“When Selena was young, I had a vision of the Moon Spirit. And she told me my granddaughter was destined to something great. Of course she didn’t tell me what it was, but there are some signs of that starting to happen now.”

“What kind of signs?” Clifford wanted to know, just like everyone else in the room.

“Selena is discovering some powers. She is not able to control them yet and has no idea of what they mean. She doesn’t know about this prophecy.”

“Bryce knows about it?”

“No, he doesn’t. But I don’t think it will take long for him to discover. This guy Shane is asking around about her. I believe he already knows who she is.”

“What makes you think that?” the curly woman asked again.

“Selena was ambushed a few days ago. We don’t know who they were, but from what she told me, they didn’t really want to attack her. I think they were testing her.”

“To discover more about the powers?”

“Exactly.”

“So… We have two problems at our hands, right?” Clifford laid back on his chair, with one hand on his chin. “It's us against them?”

“I believe we will be able to count with one more pack. And they are very powerful.”

“Whose pack?”

“The son of the Moon.”
