Chapter 4: No Place Like Home

{7:00 PM}

CRYSTAL'S POV

As I walked the empty streets of the neighborhood, I could feel myself grow more and more excited as I thought of myself just being an absolute couch potato while binge-watching some anime on Netflix. Unlike other students, I don't live in a dorm at school for 3 reasons.

1. Whoever I have to room with might learn some things I don't want them to learn about me

2. I don't want to room with some bitch my whole school year in Wellston

3. I just don't like it in general. Why? Cause I just don't

So in the end my mom bought me a condo not too long ago, even when I told her not to. But she did anyway because she didn't want me running late to school all the time.

After a few more minutes of walking, I finally reached my condo. I rode the elevator up to my unit and unlocked my door. I go inside my room and change my clothes. I decided to binge-watch some anime first, before going to bed. After changing into some sweat pants and a matching hoodie I plopped down on my bed and started playing some "My Hero Academia" on Netflix.

As I laid my eyes on my tv screen I couldn't help but think about what happened earlier. What was Isen's real intention of being there? He even invited me to sit with them during lunchtime before, but why? Maybe he's onto me? What if he doesn't believe me being a low tier?

Argh! I'm doing it again! I'm overthinking things too much. I let out a sigh as I shifted my position on the couch. It's one of the many reasons my mom would scold me.

But enough of that, the bigger problem here is that, if he thought of that then the two royals sitting with him heard it from him too!!

Damnit. I should really be more careful next time. But I did blow him off in one of our classes together with his redhead friend, what was his name again? Blyke I think?

Luckily I didn't have to use my ability today, especially the little incident earlier, or else things would start going south for me. But I don't need to think about that yet, I just got to vibe with the opening song first.

So I stood up and started dancing to the song, just vibing. Secretly hoping no one takes a video of me.

I picked up the remote control and turned the tv off. I just sat there rubbing my eyes as I lie back down on my bed, grabbing my phone off of my bedside table. I unlocked my phone screen to see a notification pop up.

"Missed recent call? " I scrolled down to see who it was until my eyes landed on a red highlighted name at the top of my call history.

"Mom? Why would she call me?" I thought before something dawned on me...I forgot to call her back! I fell asleep just as I got comfy in the condo that I forgot to update her.

I dialed her number and the phone started to ring. I'm just hoping she isn't mad that I forgot to call her.

"Hello? Christy ?"

Christina, Christina White is my real name. But ever since I found out that THEY started hunting me down when I was young, I decided to change my name and identity, so that THEY wouldn't be able to track me down and learn what I have been up to these past few days.

"Hi, Mom! Sorry I forgot to call you when I first got the condo, I sort of uhh...fell asleep" I said as I heard a small chuckle from the other side of the call.

"Oh it's alright sweetheart, I know you were tired so I didn't question about it. But anyway, how's Wellston Highschool? Did you make any friends?"

"Actually...yes...I did make friends."

I said smiling at myself as the image of Sera, John, and I were hanging out earlier came to mind.

"Oh, that's great sweetheart! I just called to check if you're doing well there and if your safe, take care of yourself".

"Yes Mom, you don't need to worry, I'll be careful. I promise."

"Well..alright, bye. I love you Christy"

"Love you too Mom, Bye"

My phone beeped as my mom hung up, I sighed shutting my phone off and placing it on my bedside table before drifting off to sleep.

"Mommy? where is Daddy?"

"Christy sweetheart, those people who took your father are bad news, we have to run away from this place or else they'll get us too," she said with tears in her eyes, as I just looked up at her with a bewildered expression on my face.

We then started running away, I let myself be dragged by my mom as I couldn't tell where we were going since it was super dark. After minutes of running, we stopped around a corner of a dark alleyway to catch our breath, we then stumbled across an old and abandoned house. We decided to stay there for the meantime before running again. We sat down in the corner of the house and we didn't realize how exhausted we were until we immediately fell asleep. After a few minutes of taking a quick shut-eye. I heard footsteps slowly coming towards us, I took a peek and saw a strange-looking man with glowing yellow eyes looking at my mom, planning to hit her.

"Mommy!"

I screamed loudly, enough to wake my Mom up. She saw the guy and understood what he was trying to do. My mom's eyes then started to glow a bright purple color, which means she activated her ability. The guy quickly attacked her with a yellow ball, fortunately, but my mom was able to dodge it. She used her Telekinesis ability to push him against the wall. She ran towards me and grabbed my trembling hands as I stood there frozen in shock.

"Christy come on!"

We started running again as fast as we can, but all of a sudden my mom stumbled forward into bags of trash as she was hit from behind by a yellow ball. I fell on my knees trying to shake my mom awake but she didn't budge.

"You're not going anywhere you little brat! You are coming with me!" I snapped my head to the side to see the tall scary man slowly making his way towards us as he charged a yellow ball at me too, making me push back onto the wall. He redirected his eyes back at my mom on the floor as I notice him making a bigger and brighter ball, ready to attack with a smirk on his face.

"No!"

I sat up on my bed, sweating and breathing heavily trying to calm myself down. After steadying my breathing, I ran my finger through my hair as I closed my eyes. It was a while since I had dreams like those, I thought I wouldn't have them anymore after leaving the house but nothing changed. I let out a sigh before glancing at my digital clock beside me.

{4:00 AM}

I let out a tired sigh as I plopped back down on my bed, hugging my pillow close to my chest as I buried my face in its soft cotton

"I'll protect her no matter what"

I whispered to myself before instantly falling back to sleep.
