Chapter 48: Love and Loss

“I will attend to his garments,” Casandra said quietly and she grabbed the clothing Anubis held to clothe Lakis in before he was wrapped and buried in a tomb. He nodded quietly and left the chamber. Hades had offered the space for the ceremony of mummification to take place. The realm was dreary, but it suited her feelings very well. She was told by Hades and Persephone that soon the gods would meet to discuss the admission of her into the pantheon of the gods.

She could not care less about what these gods wanted from her or did not want from her. She did not need their approval; she was already a goddess and she did not really want to join some fanclub of gods. All she wanted was Lakis. She never felt so alone before in her whole life. She wondered if the gods could actually help her figure out how to do that. She doubted it, but she was hopeful. She never knew.
