57 Chapter(54)

Episode(54): Invite the sage!, Actually not that strong

SOVEREIGN OF DEATH~(54)

But the guard had no idea that Sullivan who was inside had no such thoughts.

What capturing a princess?

Was he so cringe?

He would much more rather ripping her head off her body and sticking it at the royal palaces' gate for display!

The guard, unaware that he had read too many hero novels spoke hurriedly.

[It doesn't matter about the rest but if only your safety can be assured out then–]

Maria furrowed her brows.

This guy was too annoying.

Didn't she just tell him to do something, why was he making a sales pitch all of a sudden?

Did he want to die?

Looking at the guard with a chilling gaze, Maria uttered her words coldly.

[I told you to do something, it's your duty to listen. That wasn't a request, it was an order...bring my sword now!]

Maria was nearly angered to death.

Even though she knew this guy was just doing his job, the more time he wasted being so hesitant the more destruction would happen.

The guard had no choice but to grit his teeth and agree.

She was his superior not to mention Maria had a rare class with stronger abilities than himself.

There was also a level difference between the two and he had no power to deny her orders at all.

The guard sighed in his mind.

If this princess really ended up dying then even without her leaving dying remarks wouldn't he be the one who brought the princess a sword and sent her to the battle field to die?

Sigh, what could he do?

[.... yes, your highness, as you wish!]

It would be fine.

Unlike the guard she really didn't see a need to worry.

So long as no unexpected variables jumped out of nowhere then they would definitely be able to repel the demon.

The guard turned and was ready to leave but before he could, Maria stopped him.

[Don't go to the palace. Go to the mages tower and when you fetch my new sword, at that time you can ask 'him' to come help]

He raised a brow.

Why was the princess's sword in the mages tower?

But after a while he understood. Maria was a magic swordsman.

Normal blacksmiths couldn't make swords that could properly conduct and circulate magic so only the craftsmen at the magic tower could do it.

But who was this him?

Was it some kind of cryptic code that he should say when he went to pick up the sword?

The guard was lost and had no choice but to ask not wanting to look like a duck separated from its flock.

[he?]

Maria nodded.

[The sage]

One of the longest living sages who currently resided in the Floren Empire and the master of the mages tower.

The only one capable of helping the empire out of its current crisis.

***

20 minutes flashed by and the guard had returned holding a diamond coloured sword in his hands.

After receiving the sword, Maria didn't even take the time to admire its beauty.

Instead, she sped through the banquet hall towards the banquet.

Because the nobles had mostly left the scene, the halls were scarce.

Only a few nobles in the suites who received the emergency notice too late were running down with fear in their eyes.

These nobles who had stood proud and mighty acting like they were the rulers of this world all had terror stricken faces while running for their lives.

Looking from the perspective of an outsider, one might think the end of the world was about to arrive.

It was indeed a pitiful sight, but what did it have anything to do with Maria?

Nobles weren't exactly obligated to fight.

Sure, the feudal system naturally stated that they needed to fight to protect those under their protection but, here there were only nobles.

None were under the other and as such they really had no reason to stay and risk their lives.

Even if they did, were they crazy enough to do it. As if, staying alive was more important and everything else could wait till another day!

A gust of wind blew by.

Finally, after sprinting for a while, Maria had arrived before the huge double door.

She didn't even wait as she pushed open the doors and forced her way inside.

When she entered however she couldn't help but gasp in shock.

The hall was so different from memory that she almost thought she had entered a new reality altogether.

She looked around at the destruction and analysed the situation.

The sage seemed to have arrived immediately after she sent her message and before she even got her sword.

Thus the fight seemed to have been long in progress as both sides battled fiercely.

The walls were cracked and debris fell each time a collision happened.

Pillars were pitiful broken and the ground around the palace was dug out like an excavation project had been underway.

Just what in the world?

[Come on, do better Sage!]

A voice filled with menace shouted in a chilling tone.

Sullivan who was fighting had a smile on his face as he battled the sage and he emanated a pressure that was far stronger than any Maria had felt before in her entire life.

The sage gritted his teeth and fought with all his might.

Sullivan grinned and mocked.

[Aren't you supposed to be one of the strongest humans currently alive, at this point you'll be better playing tic tak toe at a nursery home than being on a battle field old fossil! Did you really come to pick out a coffin? Hahaha]

This guy!

Not only was his strength so formidable but even his words were so ruthless.

Dammit!

Frustration visibly shown on the sage's middle aged face.

Why was this demon so passionate?

Were they enemies in a past life?!

No, he wasn't even that old to begin with!

So what if he lived a few hundred years longer than others, did that mean he was some old fossil!

He wanted nothing less than to beat the damned demon to death!

Didn't it know that words were just as sharp as knives and swords? Did it want to kill him emotionally as well?

Sullivan grinned.

At the same time he glided back avoiding the sage's continuous barrage of magic.

When he was far enough, he stretched out his right hand.

Along with this movement, both his wings pointed forward and in the next second, a rain of black feathers shot out like a bullets towards the sage.

The speed of each feather was enough to leave afterimages in the eyes of others and it was like a flash as they arrived before their target.

The sage frowned.

He didn't know what type of attack this was but his instincts told him not to allow those feathers to land a direct hit on his body.

What would happen if they did? Probably they would turn him into a sieve?

He didn't want to experience such a fate however and hurriedly moved to avoid.

Shu!

The sage teleported avoiding the attacks and he looked at Sullivan playfully.

It was like he was asking if that was all.

Can't do better? See with your dog eyes how strong I am demon!

But when he saw the arc at the corner of Sullivan's lips a feeling of dread washed over his body.

Shu!

Before he could dodge feathers tore at his defences and tore open wound after wound.

Blood flew in all directions.

That wasn't all. The moment the feather came into contact with blood, it was like someone had stepped on a minefield.

*Boom*

The feathers detonated.

A deafening explosion rang out sweeping dust and debris all over the place.

[Kuek!]

The explosive force was like an iron ball had slapped him to the side as his body was easily lifted into the air and sent flying to the side.

The sage landed on the ground and had a pained look on his face.

Burn marks covered his body and it was obvious he was in pain at the moment.

[Gah...damn you demon!]

After catching his breath, the sage couldn't help but curse aloud.

Dammit!

How in the world did someone like him, a sage who lived for over 700 years get caught up in a demon brat's sequence!

This was too shameful.

He felt like playing possum but he felt like he would lose more face if he played road kill now.

In the end he could only get up while speaking resentfully.

[Why are you so strong even though you're not the demon king?!]

He was irritated.

It was one thing if it was the demon king but this wasn't even the demon king.

It wasn't even one of the heavenly demons he knew. This was just an unknown demon brat that appeared out of nowhere.

Even the sage couldn't handle the demon alone and this left Maria astounded.

Then she had a question.

Why was such a monster attacking the capital?

It made even less sense seeing it up close. It wasn't as if they had some peerless ancient treasure that could be of use to the demons?

[Ha]

Sullivan scoffed.

Seeing the sage's expression it made a face as if it was made to cater to worms.

[Did you trash think the demon king was so free as to visit small fishes like you?]

Sullivan smiled.

[You dream too much. The demon king is a much more powerful existence than you imagine, even a thousand heroes couldn't measure up to her greatness!]

To Sullivan, the demon king was an existence he looked up to.

Not just him but all demons looked up to the demon king. Normally the demons wouldn't even bother with humans.

To them even this whole war scenario was a bother.

However this time they had no choice but to start a war with these lower inferior bugs.

The reason for their goal wasn't because they wanted it, but because they had to accomplish a certain goal.

Humans whom hated them from eons ago wouldn't know about their purpose.

Even most of the demons didn't know the real truth behind the war but that didn't matter.

They dare to think that they were worthy to be in her highness's presence?

[Know your places inferior garbage!]

Sullivan then sighed.

Looking at the shocked faces of those around him he wondered what would happen had he told them that he was merely 5th amongst the demon king's true subordinates.

He actually wasn't that strong compared to the others.
