4 Chapter Three/ The White Room

"I embraced who I am and I don't want to stop it."

-Supergirl

I saw what I thought was Rotter's coat. The fear is still rattling through me. I calmed myself down. I started to run. I needed to be away, just in case it was him. I knew my brother would kill me in a heartbeat. There was no denying it, Rotter was loyal, as loyal as they come. I ran until I was out of breath. I was good at that. Running, it was always the one thing I could do. Being the small one of the pack, I was considered weak.

Being weak also led me to being scrawny, small and most importantly fast. As long as I was fast I could outrun anything. I could survive anything, you just have to be quicker to catch me. As I have mentioned before, I started to grow barely. I didn't grow a lot but I was still growing. I was still depressed.

I had watched my brother kill my other brother. Not to mention, one of my sisters passed away. Kenzie might have been stuck up sometimes, but she was my sister. We even chewed each other's ears when we were first born. Also, my Mother betrayed me and my brother Owen as well. Then she turned around and was first in line to take Kenzie's place.

If it wasn't for Kenzie dying, Mother would be here with me right now. Who knows, the human might have killed her too. I sniffed around, my mind was going in so many directions. I needed a place to stay. No. I need food to eat. No. I need to drink something. Not that either. Oh, I have to go pee. No, I don't think that was it either. I went back to my first thought. I needed a place to stay. I slowly walked around, sniffing different areas where there weren't any dogs. We wouldn't get on their territory now would we.

I finally found a spot by an old building. Its windows are dark and tinted. The paint on the walls outside crumbling down. I smelled burnt tires in the air. It calmed me down. The noises around me slowly died down as I laid my head down. I closed my eyes, sleep coming into my mind. Sleep. Ruff.

I was drifting. That's how all my dreams started; I was floating. Dreaming. You wouldn't think dogs do, but they do, we dream just like humans.

Humans are always saying. "Dogs don't dream. They don't have a soul."

That, in fact, is a straight up lie. We dream. I dream of running through grassy fields. Oh how I love grassy fields. I can't forget about sticking my tongue out, and tasting all the sweet scents of the air. Each has a different flavor. You would be surprised how many stinky humans I taste daily. Dogs do dream, sometimes we have nightmares too.

The dream I was having though was quite different from my usual grassy fields though. It was pitch black. I was laying down. I was just there. No humans. No loud noises. Currently nobody was there, it was just me. I was panting, my breathing heavy. I was scared but in a good way. I wasn't terrified. Something about my dream didn't feel scary or intense.

Like a flip of a switch it went from pitch black to a blinding white light. I think I preferred the dark room better. I was in a white room. I looked around, there were no windows. No way for me to escape if I could. I first thought I was captured and I was going to starve again. My fear creeping back into my bones. Then, I woke up, the dream was over with. Just like that. I woke up to my old building.

I turned and scratched my butt, nibbling on it and laid back down. I scrunched everything together. I laid back down, it was night time. I looked up at the stars. They were bright, especially one of them. I blinked. Dogs couldn't cry, but I was crying inside. Owen. My brother left too soon.

I couldn't go back to sleep, but I was bored. I laid there, still looking up at the bright stars shining down on everyone. The streets were quiet. People in their homes, resting. I could hear the squeaks of rats running through the dumpsters. I closed my eyes, but instead of sleeping, I sent a silent prayer to Baboo. Our God, that's what we called him. Baboo, instead of the fancy name humans give him. I didn't fully believe in him. I had hope, but it was always diminished.

"If there is a Baboo up there in the heavens please hear me. I want a better life. I know it is selfish to ask but I would love a better life. My heart desires such things. I would not live much longer Baboo. Please grant me a life that is better." I whispered to myself.

I opened up my eyes and looked back up at the stars. Their beauty shines even more now. I thanked Owen and Kenzie. I yawned and decided why not go to sleep. It was silly after I thought I wasn't tired, how, in fact, I was indeed tired. I stretched out my legs and rolled over. I was being pulled back into the dream escape.

When I woke up, I found a cat staring at me from across the street. My ears perked up at it. It started to hiss at me. My inner dog couldn't help it. I bounced up, butt in the air while bowing. I darted to the cat. Its eyes got wide and started bouncing away from me. Chase. Oh I love that game.

"Hold up, wait for me!" I called out to the cat.

The cat only hisses back at me.

With my tongue hanging out the side of my face, I chased the cat down the street. It was fun for a while, the cat kept baring its teeth at me. I didn't understand, I thought we were playing.

Mischievous clearly written in both of our eyes. The cat was playing mouse, and I was the cat. I stopped suddenly, I looked across the street. There he was, the human, James. I licked up my lips, evilly, revenge. I looked to see if Mother was with him.

I didn't see her nor Bexley or Rotter either. I trailed my way over to him, sniffing to make sure it was indeed James, the evil, vicious and vile human.

I followed him around as he was getting things. I spotted his van. The van that captured me. I growled, my teeth blaring at him. I made sure to keep my distance, when he was getting ready to leave, I stood out. I growled loudly, he turned his head at me. I could smell the fear rolling off of him. Good. He should fear me.

He sped out of the road quickly. I smiled, mischievously to myself. With my head up high, I trotted down the street. I found the cat again, I could see its grey spots from across the street. I started running towards it. My ears are flopping behind me. I barked at it. Again the cat hissed at me. It was fun, chasing the cat.

I did that all day, until the cat jumped on a sign. I couldn't reach it then. I gave up, and found a nice place to nap. I feel asleep, tired, exhausted from using my legs. The adrenaline was still going through me, but I needed to sleep too.

It was morning the next day. I was strolling down the street like usual. When a car stopped beside me. I looked up to find a human woman. I had to take another glance to be sure I saw right. She was medium tall with short hair. She gave off this weird vibe and was happy. She came up to me. I could understand what she was saying now. Like I said, dogs pick up on things. I might not have fully understood her language, but I could tell what something meant.

"Are you lost?" She asked in a concerning voice.

I whimpered in reply.

Something inside me told me I could trust her. Call it a gut intuition, or my sixth sense we have. She picked me up and put me in her car. We went to another house. I got a sense of deja vu. My inner panic started coming out. I started to whimper, she kept petting me to calm me down. I will not be calmed down at all. She pulled into the garage. Seriously, my panic started to show even more. I squirmed out of her hands. The human girl was hanging onto my fur for dear life.

Ouch, I thought. Her nails were digging into me. I tried to snap at her, she let me go across the street. She quickly got out and shut the door. I went over to it, scratching, wanting out. She ran inside really fast, and within a blank of an out she came out. Carrying a circular round thing. Oh Baboo, she was going to kill me.

I jumped to the back, trying to hide from the human girl. I kept sending silent prayers to Baboo. She opened back up her door. I could see her searching for me, until her eyes landed directly on me. I think I peed a little.

"Where are you doggy, oh there you are." She opened up the back door, where I was.

The human reached her hands out to me, putting the collar around my neck. The death trap I thought to myself. She fixed it, I was shaking so badly. The girl picked me up.

"Oh, you poor thing look at you." She said in a worried voice again. She took me inside where there were other animals like me.

I found out I didn't like cats as much as I thought I did. They are devious and malicious creatures. The cat I played with earlier didn't act like this. Frankly, I found her cat didn't like me either. Good. It must fear me. I looked at it, it was like we were silently communicating the hate between us. Her cat kept looking at me strangely,

"Do you have a problem?" I asked her.

"Yes, I do." The cat replied to me.

"Then what is it?" I asked snarkily.

"You." She said and got up and left. Her white, puffy tail flicked behind her.

The human woman fixed me a nice little room. I could tell the cats stuff from mine though. Her stuff was in the corner, she had little towers she could climb. It was nice, it felt like back in the garage. Only better and smelled like strawberries. I remember it, my mothers smell. It used to be like home, now strawberries are terrible. There was a cover in the room. It had little dog designs on it. I went over to it and flopped down. It was soft against my fur. I snuggled up to it, and started to fall asleep on it.

I could hear the human laughing at me. I looked up at her, she had a huge smile on her face. She put a bowl beside me and some food. I stood up and went over to it. I immediately started to eat. I rose my head up from the food bowl, and ducked my head into the water bowl real fast. I went back to my food bowl. All those rotten foods don't compare to this strange yummy food I was eating. I ate all of it at once.

Oh no I felt it. I had to go outside. My stomach didn't feel too good. I sniffed my way to the back door. I was still new and unfamiliar to the house. I could hear the cat crackling at me. I glared at it. I scratched on the back door. The woman let me out. I went to the bathroom. As I sniffed I smelled all the animal's different scents on the ground. I eventually found a spot that wasn't taken.

I marked it as my own. Nobody was going to take my spot now. It was mine. I could see the cat watching me, and whipping its head away all snoodily.

After I was finished and came in I went back to my little room. The cat was sitting on it's towers of doom. It just glared at me from a distance. I flopped down on my little bed. That was the first night that I felt safe. It felt safer than I had ever been safe. I missed home. I didn't miss the human but I miss my family. Even though they betrayed me I still missed them. I will miss Owen even more.

The next day the woman had to go to work. So it was just us animals at the house. Right after the woman had left the cat came up to me. It turns out her name was Pearl. I only figured that out, because the human kept using that towards her.

"Hello." She said to me, I ignored her.

We got to this place where we will speak to each other, but not as friends. We were enemies.

"Hello." She said again more sternly. I ignored her again.

"Excuse me." She said,

"You're excused." I said to her, She huffed and went away. Her tail shifted from side to side. I decided to get up and move around. That little room started to get stuffy. The cat Pearl followed me outside.

"What do you want?" I asked the cat.

"I want you to leave." She said to me,

"I am sorry but I can't do that." I said to her,

The cat, Pearl, then attacked me. She pounced on my back. Those vicious claws grabbed at my fur, slicing my fur and I started to bleed. The bleeding wasn't stopping, I felt my energy beginning to drain. After I was injured I whimpered. The cat had a malicious laugh.

"I said to go." She said to me again.

I whimpered my way back to my little room across from her. I fell asleep. I woke up to the sound of the human woman. It felt like moments ago I was just injured. I was still bleeding, my vision was blurry though. She came to me. I got up and walked my way over to her. It was more like a limp than a walk though. I could barely make my legs move. The world seemed upside down.

"Oh my gosh!" The woman screamed. I backed away whimpering. The woman had scared me.

"Oh no come here, honey." She said to me,

I was still backing away. She got up and came to me. The woman then picked me up. She took me to her car and we left. We went to this different building. It was white on the outside, and when we went in the rooms were just as plain. It had many different animals; some like me. Some of the animals were huge. I could make out the different smells, barely, I was getting weaker by the moment.

We entered this room with bright lighting. It hurt my eyes. I closed them for a moment. The human, whose name I didn't catch, tapped me. When I opened them back up, she had tears in her eyes. I didn't want the human to be sad. She was good to me. The woman was talking to another human, a male. He had these weird instruments with him. He took one instrument off around his neck and pointed it at me. I started whimpering. That instrument looked dangerous.

"Don't worry little dog, I'm not going to hurt you." He said in a calming voice. I relaxed a little.

The male human had dark looking colored hair. He had a wide smile. I wanted to back away from the danger, but something about his voice made me stay. He put that weird instrument around me. He then picked me up and took me to this one thing which was flat. On the inside, there was a little stick that moved back and forth.

He looked me in the eye. I still felt nervous but I trusted him. He then took me to this one table. He put some weird liquid into this pointy thing which terrified me even more than the instrument around his neck. He then stuck the pointy thing into my fur.

I didn't realize that my leg had felt sore. When he put that pointy thing in my fur my senses immediately felt calm. He then wrapped this one stuff around my fur. The male human then took me back to the woman. The Vet (the human woman called the male human) injected me with something. I grew tired, very tired.

"Sally, it looks like she will be fine. Do you have a name for her?" He asked the human woman.

"Oh no, she's not my dog. I am planning on getting rid of her." She said to the male human.

"Well, we could take her in until she found a home. She needs surgery though, but it looks like she will be fine after it." The Vet replied to the human named Sally.

I had no idea what they were saying. It sounded like gibberish to me. I was worried, and I was sleepy too. I felt dizzy from everything. My world started to shake. Everything around me was shaking then it went black. Then, the white room appeared before me again. This time, I was afraid of not waking up at all.

I walked around, remembering a previous dream I had of the White Room. I sniffed, my sense of smell was off. I couldn't smell anything. I started to freak out. Then, I blacked out all over again.
