Chapter 165 Wyvern 2

Mino and the wyvern were keeping each other busy. At a certain point, the wyvern landed on the ground, basking everything nearby in its heat, causing it to catch fire. It was still too hot for the environment to handle, although it did cool off quite a bit from the Ice Princess's attacks.

Mino was having the time of his life, though. Throwing large boulders at the wyvern caused it to swipe its claws everywhere. An entire patch of the island was devastated, leveled to an open area. A few trees were still standing, but the heat quickly took advantage of that and burnt the remaining trees coal-black.

Laughing like a madman, Mino summoned large spikes from the ground, trying to pierce its skin. The wyvern couldn't care less though, the spikes broke off the moment it came in contact with its skin. Firing off a few more fireballs, Mino conjured up a large and massive wall. "Prove me right, little lizard!"

BOOM

The fireballs landed on the wall, causing an explosion that ruptured the ground. Nothing remained of the wall or its conjurer.

"Tch, I even told him not to try.", Simon and the Ice Princess approached the wyvern. The Ice Princess conjured large ice spears before shooting them towards it. Simon on the other hand tried to damage the eyes of the wyvern. He didn't have strong attacks, but they were extremely precise.

The air beside him started to swirl together, the speed kept increasing, and more air was pulled into the little whirlwind. A drill of wind was starting to form. Simon didn't fire it immediately, rather waiting for the Ice Princess to give him a chance.

She was the main attacker at this point, using the abundance of water around her from rivers, from the steam that the wyvern created, but also just the nearby sea and ocean. Even with the abundance of water available, she couldn't control everything. If she could control a lake, she was given an ocean. Trying to overwhelm the wyvern was a lot harder than she initially thought.

The created ice walls and spikes melted quickly and were easily destroyed by a single swipe. The tail was also not to be underestimated, when the wyvern swiped the area clean, it kept turning and swung its tail horizontally, wiping everything standing away.

She was glad Simon was at least extremely competent in his magic, guiding the tail upwards by lifting the air underneath the tail. The moment the wyvern turned around, a large hail of small ice shards assaulted the wyvern, blocking them all by covering its face, Simon accurately launched his drill damaging the eye of the wyvern.

A wail of pain and anger covered the island, but it quickly turned into anger. The body of the wyvern started to light up. The deep red scales brightened up to light red, heat radiating from its hide, all the water immediately evaporated. Even the ice was easy prey for the intense heat.

The Ice Princess didn't want to admit her fear, but she was regretting fighting it. Her main attacks were now nothing but a small hindrance for the monster. Luckily, she had Simon as he didn't just keep all the water and humidity in the air close to either the wyvern or the Princess, he also kept shooting off drills at random moments to catch the wyvern off guard.

ROOA-

Just as it wanted to let out another roar, a stone hammer as big as the wyvern's head landed on its body. Mino had blood running down his face, but his smile and eagerness for battle trumped the pain. With Mino joining the fight again, Simon put on a small smile while the Princess tried to keep a sigh of relief inside her.

With the heat radiating from its body, any kind of attack was quickly destroyed. The ice melted and evaporated, and while the stone attacks from Mino did the most damage, they also started to melt if they stayed too close to the body of the wyvern. The beast also knew how to fight seriously, digging its claws into the ground, it lifted the ground and caused a small eruption of almost molten earth and stones.

Simon couldn't repel those attacks, since the velocity of the ground coming at them was too much to handle. Mino could easily block it, but he didn't look out for them. So Simon had to start flying away, bringing the Princess with him. Feeling like dead weight, she started to do everything in her power to attack the wyvern with ice.

Large Ice Spikes were constantly forming, she aimed them at the wings since they were the most vulnerable. Since Simon kept the water close by, she could infinitely create them. At a certain point, the wyvern never had a single moment it wasn't being hailed by ice. It didn't do much damage, but it certainly broke its concentration. The attacks quickly melted, but the initial impact and the fact that it cooled the lizard down was enough for Mino to get a few hits in.

The battle started to drag out, and the wyvern realized it was going to end up dead if it didn't do something to break the current stalemate. The heat and defensive scales took care of most of the ice spikes. The random boulder and hammer attacks from Mino did more impact damage, but it held strong. Surprisingly, the wind drills were the most damaging since it kept targeting weak spots.

If a scale was broken, the ice spikes and boulders couldn't do much, but the wind drills accurately hit it even if it was moving its body constantly. The wyvern looked up and knew what it had to do to change the tides.

It started to gather as much magma as it could, arching its back a bit, it let loose a large stream of magma. It didn't just aim for a random spot in the sky, it kept moving its head as if trying to cover as much of the sky in pure magma.

Mino had to take a step back, he was strong, but active magma would kill him. Creating a wall in front of him didn't help much, as the stream of magma easily melted the stone and pushed through.

Simon looked down and simply floated a bit higher with the Princess. The attack was powerful, but if it didn't reach him, it wouldn't do much. Though, his attitude quickly switched.

"WHAT!?", a massive open beak jumped out of the magma stream, caught of guard, he quickly pushed himself out of harms way. Regaining his posture, he saw that the Princess was gone and the wyverns mouth was shut.

"ELISA!", in distress, Simon realized that he wasn't just fighting a beast. 'This piece of shit can strategize. It knew I controlled the flight, by blinding and surprising me, it knew I would retreat out of reflex. Making me lose sight of who I was holding up.'

Simon wanted to click his tongue, but quickly shot back into action.

"God-, Mino! Stop holding back and fight seriously, Elisa is dead! The only way to survive now is with your trump card!", Simon knew it was time to stop holding back, losing the Princess put him in a bad mood. But survival took priority, the beast had to die.

"Hahaha, fine, it's been getting a bit boring anyway.", Mino wasn't affected in the slightest. His smile as bright as ever. The passing of the Princess didn't really matter to him, since she wasn't family. Closing his eyes, Mino started to chant a spell that even Simon couldn't understand. As his skin was turning into silvery gray, the ground beneath him started to slowly crack. His weight being increased too much that the stone beneath him couldn't hold him anymore.

Simon also stopped holding back as tens of drills were being formed behind him. He was initially planning on dragging the fight out, since the combined cores of three Rank 2's should be bigger than a single Rank 2 wyvern's. Now that one of those cores was gone, it was time to stop playing around. Wyverns weren't being to mess around with, even if they were with three, now it was even more important to watch out.

Mino rushed towards the wyvern, jumping in the magma that was now everywhere on the ground. He didn't feel any pain, punching the wyvern straight on the nose, the monster couldn't believe what just happened. Magma wasn't so easily ignored.

"Did you think my nickname was literal? This isn't steel, it's way better!", Mino dashed forward, pummeling the wyvern with punches that made it literally be lifted in the air. The weight behind his attacks had increased so much, it was comparable to the mass of the entire wyvern. Living up to his nickname, the weight behind each punch was the same as a steel fortress.

Trying to use its claws or tail to repel the attacker, nothing worked as the defense the silvery skin brought was impenetrable. Mino was laughing his heart out as he could fight to his heart's desire. Simon didn't just sit and watch, though, each time Mino punched the wyvern in the air, he brought it down with a bunch of wind drills.

His eyes were fixated on the wyvern. Mino never backed down since he didn't have to anymore, the wyvern did everything in its power to fight back, but Mino proved to be quite the menace. With each punch, scales were starting to break off, giving Simon more opportunities to attack.

As the fight started to get extremely one-sided, small horns were making their way through the wyvern's skin. The small horns were hard to notice, especially since Mino was pummeling the monster around.

Only Simon noticed the horns, even if they could barely withstand the heat of the scales.

'So he infected this thing as well? Then he's not done yet. He would know by now that we'll survive, so the question is how he'll interfere again.', Simon kept an eye out on his surroundings since Mino wasn't going to be in a dangerous situation any time soon.

There were quite a lot of spectators, but none of them seemed like they would be daring enough to pull such a stunt. The ones who kept calm seemed like the most probable targets, yet they were simply too weak. Awakening a wyvern would make it hate whoever brought it out of its sleep. Surviving the anger of such a monster was no easy task.

'Whoever he is, he'll have to show himself when the wyvern is dead. There's nothing else on this island that can harm us. Or is he aiming for the tokens of Elisa?'

Simon couldn't figure out what was going to happen next, but he wasn't going to let himself be surprised, not again.

'First, I need to get the killing blow, I didn't want Mino to use this spell since his chances are now increased. But what happened, happened, I'll just make the best of it.'

Simon knew that if he wanted to gain the special token from the wyvern, he would have to prepare a spell big enough to kill the mutated beast in a single hit. All the remaining wind drills in the air started to come together, forming a large whirlwind in the air.

Adding small sharp stones and fire to the massive vortex of wind, the wind drill wasn't comparable to before. Still, Simon kept a calm face as he watched for any reaction from the onlooking crowd.

He knew that Mino could've ended the fight quite some time ago, but was now just fighting to enjoy himself. This battle was over, the wyvern might've still had a few desperate attempts. Yet, anything it threw against Mino was simply punched through.

Even magma, its most powerful offense, was nothing against the massive bear of a man. Realizing its life was about to end, it tried to run away, but Mino caught the tail and pulled it back. There was no escape anymore.

Simon lowered his hand, releasing the massive fire wind drill behind him. Seeing the drill approach, the wyvern tried everything to escape Mino's grasp, but nothing worked. The impact shook the island once more as the neck of the beast was pierced through. Blood and magma flew everywhere as the drill flung its insides around.

After the island stopped shaking, the quiet returned for just a few seconds before the surrounding students all started to cheer their hearts out. Such an epic battle didn't occur often, seeing Rank 2's use special spells and the pure power they held made everyone excited. Although one man wasn't happy.

"Simon! C'mon, I was having fun! Why stop this early?", Mino looked extremely displeased, and angering a man who just beat a wyvern to a pulp wasn't on Simon to-do list.

"You can have the wyvern's meat, would that make you happy?", Simon didn't have to hide his intentions with Mino. He knew that Mino wouldn't understand subtlety anyway, and being direct with the man was the best way to communicate.

"Hmm. Can I have the eyes as well?", Mino asked without any shame. Simon had the final hit, and they agreed that the one who kills it will own the body and token. Tweaking the contract in his favor was only natural, he just had to promise the Ice Princess some parts of it to satisfy her. Now that she was gone, Mino became the obvious owner.

'The eyes? I guess you can make quite a few things from it, nothing is better than the teeth and scales, though.'

"Fine, you may have it.", Simon lowered down to the ground. Floating in the air gave him a perfect overview of the battle and scenery, but now it was time to loot. Landing near the wyvern, Simon immediately felt that something was off. His plans were normally perfect, it was only on this island that someone kept interfering. Now that the biggest threat was eliminated, that party had to do something.

Spreading his willpower, he immediately sought after something.

"Wow, what's wrong?", Mino asked as he felt a wave of willpower suddenly rush over him.

"Don't think I didn't see you!", Simon immediately started to fly in a certain direction without holding anything back. Mino stood at the side, he didn't think too hard on why Simon was running away. Looking at the corpse of the dragon, he got closer to get the delicious wyvern meat.

It was then that he noticed.

"Hmm? The slate isn't vibrating?"
