The bombshell

You’re carrying twins.” The doctor delivered his bombshell in a quiet and solemn but worried manner.

“Holy mother of God!” Marie breathed in shock and wrung her hands in worry, her eyes wide

The girl sat down in shock, not saying anything. If not for the rapid blinking of her eyes, she would have looked like a sculpture carved from stone.

“Twins.” The girl repeated dully.

“There are…” The doctor began.

“I’d like to go home.” The girl cut in, standing up abruptly, her large tummy protruding in front of her almost obscenely.

“Sit down, dear. We need to discuss some things with the nice doctor.” Marie soothed.

“I’ll be back tomorrow. I just need some time to process this. Let’s go please, Mrs. Marie.”

Marie sighed softly, apologizing to the doctor before getting up and following the girl out the door. Even though the girl was heavily pregnant, Marie was finding it difficult to keep up with her long and fast strides.
