Remembrance

She woke up in a cold sweat, terror gripping every fiber of her being as everything began to slowly fall into place. She could remember everything as though she had never forgotten in the first place. She could remember everything she detested about Lucas, his stalking and how he had begun to hit her and control her life. She could remember how she had begun planning to run away and how she had finally pulled it off without informing Lucas and she could remember every major event leading up to this moment.

“Hey. Are you okay?” Ethan called from beside her in the darkness, causing her to jump about a foot high. He sat up in alarm and turned on the bedside lamp to look at her, his forehead creasing when he realized that she was sweating profusely, despite the fact that the room was somewhat cold.
