A happy ending
It felt as though there were heavy bags of cement holding down Chloe’s eyelids from opening and try as she might, she could not open them. She could hear voices faintly, and the sound of those voices made her smile, although she was not sure that her cheeks really moved.
“And then, I will go to all the shelters and pet all the dogs and give them many treats.” She heard Aiden say excitedly.
“Where will you get the treats from?” Ethan’s baritone voice asked.
“Oh. I’m going to save money up and buy so many treats and give one to every dog I see. I will do the dishes for you and Miss Chloe and run errands and you can pay me. I also know how to cut grass and stuff like that.”
“You won’t have to do any of that, Aiden.” She heard Ethan tell him, emotion choking him.
