Chapter 15: Snake vs Bear (Part 1)

'Yawn..' The next morning, Leo stretched his body lightly as he stood up from the ground. After returning to the cave yesterday, Leo didn't dare to go out again. It was almost night at the time and the forest would be even more dangerous than during the day. While he was confident in his strength he preferred to stay home and rest. Since he had nothing to do, he felt a little bored and couldn't help but miss the internet. If he was on earth, he could have read some manga and visited some cough..cough…. Anyway, thanks to his lazy cat bloodline he was able to sleep quickly and while the night was a little rough, he managed to have a good sleep. And more importantly he didn't have his usual nightmare. 'It was definitely better than yesterday.' Leo grinned as he assigned his attribute.

Once he was done, he opened the inventory and took out the dungeon crystal. Today he was going to enter the dungeon and hopefully reach level 10. However, just as he was about to use the crystal, he felt the ground shake violently. It was like something heavy had suddenly dropped to the ground. After a few moments, an angry beast roar resounded through the forest and the ground shook even more violently.

"Uh!? What's happening? Earthquake? "Leo asked none as he rushed out of the cave. No matter what was provoking those shaking, he didn't dare stay inside the cave any longer since it was already showing signs of collapse and he didn't want to be buried alive. With his high agility, he was able to quickly reach the exit, and just as he exited the cave, it collapsed behind him.

'Phew, thank God I didn't think twice before running.' Leo muttered as he looked at the collapsed tunnel with some fear lingering in his eyes.

He was greeted with an incredible sight when he turned towards the clearing to see what was happening. In the middle of the clearing, two gigantic monsters were in the middle of a deadly battle. One of the monsters was a big fiery red snake, 5 or 6 meters long and almost a half meter wide. It was covered with thick and sturdy red scales that were densely packed together and formed a seemingly impervious armor. As it hissed angrily towards its opponent, Leo was able to see its long fangs that were dripping with a deadly-looking poison, instantly filling him with fear. The monster confronting the snake was no less imposing than it.

Standing on the grass was a 3 meters tall black bear radiating an incredible amount of power and bloodlust. Its body was covered by rocks, forming a kind of rock armor and it had incredibly sharp and long claws at the end of its paws. It was currently standing on its two feet and was looking down at the fiery snake with a hate-filled glare.

'A parent looking for revenge uh.' Leo muttured as he looked at the dead bear cub under the snake Leo could guess what kind if situation put those two giants at odd. The snake made the cub his meal and now Daddy was out for blood. And from the bear attitude, it was clear he wouldn'tt stop until the snake was dead.

'Scary.' Leo thought as he looked at the two monsters that were currently locked in a glaring contest. Any of them could probably shred him to bits without any trouble.

'Hey, Luxia, you have the same idea as me, right?' Leo asked as a light bulb appeared above his head. If he was a normal beast he would have already scurried from this place in fear and horror. However, he wasn't, he was a beast with a human mind. For him, the current situation was a god-sent opportunity and he was already thinking of a way he could take advantage of it.

[Yes, I am thinking the same. But it would be dangerous.] Luxia said.

'Yeah, I know, but I will be cautious. And only by being bold would I be able to profit from every opportunity I will encounter.' Leo said with determination.

"Hehe you guess. It is a big yes. Hehe, Luxia, it's time for a hunt." Leo said as a small grin found its way on his face.

'Now I should get out of here quickly. I don't want to be caught in the aftermath of their battle so soon.' he thought as he dashed outside the clearing. Choosing a tree, a little farther but still close enough to watch the situation inside the clearing he nimbly climbed it. Afterward, he crouched on one branch and started watching the two monsters still sizing each other up. Their glares were so intense that Leo could almost see sparks flying in the air.

'Oh, that's so hot. If only I can get myself some snacks it'll be perfect. Oh, wait I am the snack. Hey guys, can you start already or are you going to kill yourself just by staring?' Leo thought as he watched the intense stare-off between the two monsters.

As if trying to answer him, the snake king let a long and loud hiss and bolted towards the bear king. Not being one to be left behind, the bear king also let out a violent roar and opened his paws wide, ready to confront the snake king.

BAAANG

'Ready?? Fight!!'

As soon as the snake neared the bear, it was ruthlessly flung on the ground by its opponent. That attack contained immense power as it managed to deeply embed the snake head in the ground and created another violent tremor. That attack could have blown up another beast's brain or at least stun them for some time. However, that attack only left a swallow mark on the snake red hard scale and before the bear could follow up, it was already up on its tails. Not discouraged, the bear tried to attack the snake again but the snake dodged this time and sent the bear flying with a powerful sweep of its tail.

CRASH.

Falling in the middle of the tree, the bear was momentarily stunned and before he could react, he saw a fireball flying towards him. Flustered, the bear tried to dodge. However, speed wasn't his forte and before he could move the fireball had already reached him.

A deafening explosion and an angry roar later, a burned bear came out from behind the smoke with only some part of his fur being charred. Apart from that, the rest seemed perfectly fine. Just like the snake, its defense was no joke and a measly fireball was far from enough to take him down. Still, he felt the pain from that attack and was looking at the snake with even more hatred now. Without hesitation, he crouched and charged towards the snake with all it might, starting another round of their bloody brawl.

'Oh! It seems this is going to be a stamina fight. They both have impeccable defense and they seem to lack the power to easily breach their foe's defense.' Leo thought as she saw the trend of the fight through those first exchanges.

While Leo was mumbling, the fight didn't stop. After exchanging some violent moves with the bear, the snake had managed to coiled itself around it and was trying to crush and bite it. Not managing to free himself despite all its struggle the bear finally used one of its skills too. With a low shout, it made earth spikes come out from the armor covering its body and tried to pierce the snake. Sensing the danger from this attack the snake hurriedly tried to free the bear and dodge, but it reacted too late and had its body riddled with little holes.

HIIIIISSSS

Furious the snake opened its jaw and breathed a massive cloud of toxic gas towards the bear. The bear tried to avoid it but wasn't able since it covered a large space, leaving him with no other option but to take it head-on and try to quickly come out of it. But what the bear didn't expect was the snake immediately sending a ball of fire bigger than the last one towards him again.

BOOOM BOOOM BOOOM

Surprisingly, the poison cloud was flammable and an earth-shattering explosion filled the whole clearing, sending a badly injured bear flying towards the forest. The explosion was extremely powerful. It created a half-meter-deep pit where the bear was standing and has broken the bear king's armor. The bear was now covered with injuries and worse, those injuries accelerated the rate at which it was getting poisoned. Barely managing to stand up the bear looked towards the snake that also seemed to be exhausted
