While the Bavarians were halted at the Tyrolean border, the same could not be said for the rest of the Duchy of Austria, at the moment the Duke of Bavaria's forces were laying siege to Salzburg, the Count of the region was missing in action, nobody knew if he was alive for dead after the battle in Passau, and his eldest son was currently staying within Graz with his wife and three children.

The defense of the County of Salzburg was left to the second son of Count, who was slightly more intelligent than Wolfgang but was by no means a genius, let alone a master of military strategy. As such, the region was in dire straits while it faced the Bavarian forces.
