Double Sunset

Chapter 1 Double Sunset

In an extremely rural part of the southern kingdom there was a large hill that overlooked the setting sky. Towards the top of it you could see a peaceful scene where two 2 young children of 11 and 12 were climbing the hill laughing, and enjoying the nature surrounding them.

The boy that looked older at 12, had bright blonde hair with green eyes and a cheerful look that seemed to never leave his face. But oddly enough he had fair white skin and a small and frail body that contrasted with his rural home.

The girl, unlike the boy, had the rural tan that most villagers in the area had, and while it did damage her looks a bit, it complimented her brown hair and eyes giving it a uniform match that had its own charm.

"Eva! Hurry up, the sun is about to set." Yelled, the young boy to his slow companion.

"Wait Andrew, I'm dying, let me catch my breath." Eva, the young girl gasped between breaths

"Then hop on my back, I don't want to miss this, they say if you watch the double sunset it will bless your marriage." Without waiting for a reply the young boy named Andrew picked up Eva in a piggyback ride and started sprinting up the hill.

"ANDREW, PUT ME DOWN RIGHT NOW I CAN WALK MYSELF!" Yelled, Eva only then to fully hear his words and get embarrassed from them.

She took a moment to regather her thoughts before continuing in a quiet almost unhearable voice, "We can't yet we're too young."

"Then we'll watch as many as we can, that way even the emperor himself will bless it when we're ready." Andrew laughed, while nimbly climbing the hill as if he wasn't carrying a girl on his back.

Carrying Eva, Andrew climbed the hill just in time to witness the scene they were looking for, both of the suns in the sky setting under the horizon at the same time.

Looking at the view that could leave one mezmorized Andrew and Eva rest under a worn down tree.

"Hey Andrew earlier, were you serious." Eva only now regaining her voice asks with hope lingering in her voice.

"The blessing part, I don't know, it was some nonsense that the old man that lives in the horse stable told me last summer." Andrew nonchalantly says, ignoring the anticipation in Eva's eyes.

Seeing that her question was blatantly ignored, a smile that just wasn't quite a smile appeared on Eva's face and with a sharp pinch she said."Andrew~ if you think you can tease me you're ten years too early,".

"Ow, ow, ow, ow, Eva stop I'll answer please I'm dying." Andrew cried, before being pardoned with a 'humph' from his childhood sweetheart.

"Yes we'll get married, no one else in this village could be my other half except you. Do you think this pristine face of mine is only for show" Andrew arrogantly boasted without a single break in his facial expression.

"Pfffft, hahaha. How can you possibly keep such a straight face while being so cocky aren't you afraid of being struck by lightning." Eva cackled without showing any of the cuteness she was emitting earlier.

"I'll never get used to that laugh of yours. If you could fix that you'd be perfect but alas, no one can be perfect like me." Sighing Andrew posed in such a manner he had the aura of a lonely wanderer, much to the bewilderment of Eva.

Seeing that sunset was just about to leave their line of sight Eva stopped the conversation and then grabbed his shoulder-length hair and forced Andrew to stop his posing, so they could both enjoy the picturesque scene in a seated position, "Yes, yes, yes Mr.Perfect now sit down. If we miss this sunset because of your arrogance I'll beat you into a coma."

Gazing at the sunset they just sat in silence for an unknown amount of time under the tree until Eva heard Andrew snoring. Dealing another pinch to Andrew and followed with the cries of the young boy, the two finally decided it was time to go back home.

Cleaning up their clothes Andrew turned and asked, "Eva, you need another ride?" Andrew offered before going onto his knees only to look behind and see a charging Eva.

Still angry about the last time she knew she wanted to vent but with a dodge. Andrew started walking a few steps ahead of her, knowing what he did wrong.

'It's just a piggyback ride, there's surely no need to do all that, we've done closer things.' Sighing to himself Andrew knew in this life he would never truly understand women

Eva next to him seeing his rapidly changing facial expressions near he must've said something about her but had no evidence so she kept it in the back of her head for a different occasion.

With clean clothes the two decide to head back to the village before anyone notices how late they were out.

Walking back down the hill in almost absolute silence they finally made it back to the village, but at a much slower pace than they did going up. Taking nearly twice the time they did going up. Chatting closer to the wall they finally reached a peaceful-looking village with a small 3m tall wooden fence, and a few teenage boys holding wooden spears keeping a hawk-eye watch on their surroundings.

"Oh look the two sweethearts are back, how was the sunset you two." A tall and robust 18 year called out from atop the walls.

Along with a few whistles and cheers, the now embarrassed couple scurried back into the village trying their best to ignore the cheers from the guard squad.

"It's almost like clockwork, how is almost every guard there every time we try to sneak back in." Andrew angrily squeezed out.

"It can't be that they're jealous of my face right, no then they'd beat me. Then, what can it be if not my face." Andrew mumbles, astonishing the girl to his side.

"Andrew it's just teasing nobody is getting hurt, don't I tease you all the time." Eva gently reminded him.

With such a reasonable way to phrase the situation Andrew nodded his head. After Grabbing her hand he went into a sprint going away from the teasers After running for around half an hour they reached the inner circle of the village where the residential area is located. After a few more minutes of twists and turns, a two floored wooden and brick house came into view.

"Auntie! Uncle! We're back!" Yelling at the top of his lungs without caring that he might have disturbed his neighbors, Andrew drags Eva into the house's courtyard.

"Oh, you finally decided to come back home huh." From inside the house a middle-aged voice booms out, leaving Andrew and Eva somewhat embarrassed and making them realize how late it was.

"We were watching the sunset again, sorry auntie." Andrew quickly conceded at the sight of a 40-year-old woman holding a ladle and with an expression that gave him the chills.

"Humph, Andrew you need to stop listening to that old drunk, the double sunset is no different than a normal one." The woman angrily grunts before softening and continuing, "Well get inside the stew is almost cold."
