1 Screw this World, Let's Run Away Together!

"He did what!?" Ren Jidian almost spat out his soda drink. "Why don't you just dump him!?"

"Pfft, if it was easy, I would have years ago." Wei Sizhi rolled his eyes.

"What about you? You don't like that Huai Zhen-dick anyway. Why are you still with him?"

Ren Jidian shrugged. "The same reason you're with that Cao Asshole. My hands are tied, bro."

"Then you know the predicament I'm in. I can't do anything about it." Wei Sizhi just leaned on the railing and watched the sunset, drinking from his cold beer.

He dyed his hair with pink highlights recently, and got a new piercing.

Ren Jidian noticed that he's getting even cooler now. He's wearing gold chains on his neck and a revealing black crop-top shirt, a camouflage jacket drooping on both sides, high-heeled boots and fishnet stockings.

He isn't scared of getting expelled for breaking the school's rules about 'decent appearance standard for omegas' anymore.

That's because his alpha boyfriend/future fiance's family, the Caos, had made sure of that.

He has more freedom than the average working-class omega student but....

At what cost?

He really does look pretty with pink hair, but that probably came with spending a night with that Cao Asshole he doesn't even like.

Which makes Ren Jidian want to secretly spike that asshole's drink, put him in a car, and drive that bitch straight to a river.

"Your first time with Cao Hundan..... How was it?" Ren Jidian sipped on his lemon soda, jazz-rock blaring on his headphones.

"So-so." Wei Sizhi answered, pushing up his rhinestone glasses.

Ren Jidian didn't like his 'couldn't -be-bothered' expression about it, and tried to crush his can to control his anger but couldn't because his grip strength was too weak.

"The man basically forced himself on you during your heat, and it was so-so? Tell me at least if you like being taken that way, did you like being dominated on without consent---"

"Why are you so curious anyway, hmmm?" Wei Sizhi gave him a sly grin. "Are you jealous of me.... or are you jealous of Cao Hundan?"

Of course he's fucking jealous of Cao Hundan.

Cao Hundan is born an Alpha with a big dick!

And here he was, a 21 year old omega still not getting over his 7 year crush on his omega best friend!

Now they're both engaged and will be married next year.... but not to each other.

Couldn't life suck even more than this!? He loves Wei Sizhi very much that his heart aches whenever he sees him.

But will he admit it? No.

Because what's the point? Wei Sizhi may not like Cao Hundan, but that doesn't mean he doesn't like alphas at all.

That doesn't mean that he would go for an omega like him....

So Ren Jidian laughed it off.

"Neither, man! That's fucked up. I'd rather not have sex with anyone until the day I die than be taken advantage of when I'm in heat."

Wei Sizhi raised a perfectly shaped eyebrow at him. "So which is it?"

"Which is.... what?"

Ren Jidian pretended he doesn't understand, but he actually do. He asked in a genuinely confused and nonchalant manner.

But Wei Sizhi could see through his bullshit all the time.

"Don't deny that you are jealous. You reek of vinegar*, Dian-Dian."

Wei Sizhi looked at him with those intense eyes wearing green contact lenses.

"No one in their right mind would ask if someone felt good about being forced. Especially if they regard that person as a friend. You already know that I don't like Mr. Cao."

"The only reason you are asking.... is because you're brain is overdriven with emotions now that you learned I lost my virginity."

Wei Sizhi took a step closer to him.

"So, which was it? Do you want to be the one in my position, being dominated by a strong alpha..... or did you want to be in the opposite side?"

Ren Jidian just drank soda calmly, but his throat felt dry again. He wanted to take a step back because Wei Sizhi might notice how unsteady his breathing is right now.

He steeled himself and said:

"I'm an omega, Zhi-Zhi. There's no point in answering that. My genetics have said it. There is no opposite side, I will and always be an omega."

The two men went quiet for a while, just looking at the lovely sunset. To outsiders, they just seem to be enjoying the view peacefully.

But this was actually their way of telling each other off after having a heated argument.

Silence speaks in volumes to those who know how to understand it, and they are both perceptive enough and has such a unique bond that it was almost like telepathy.

They know when to keep quiet to settle down, and they know when to speak again. It's like they will always be in sync with each other.

The jazz rock music continued to play on Ren Jidian's large blue headphones, adding a passive chaos to the atmosphere.

Wei Sizhi was the first to give in, and tried to not push the topic any further. "What are you listening to anyway? Is that the same Japanese singer again? What's his name..... Tako.... Taka—"

"I can't take this anymore!"

Ren Jidian rubbed a hand over his own face, and exasperatedly admitted:

"I like you, Zhi-Zhi..."

Wei Sizhi's hair matching the napalm skies got blown by the strong breeze, his green eyes wide. "What?"

"It's so lame but that's all there is to say. I can't think of anything else." Ren Jidian cleared his throat, his feet moving about uneasily.

"All I know is whenever I imagine you with that Cao Asshole..... it makes me want to kill myself. Because I'm not living in a world where I could be with the person I like."

"We're of the same subgender, and getting together would be unheard of. It's impossible, I know.... but goddamn, I still like you a lot!"

Ren Jidian scratched his head and muttered. "You probably don't like me anyway..... But if I was born an alpha, maybe you would—"

"Pfft....Hahaha!"

Ren Jidian blinked, then got annoyed. Wei Sizhi kept rolling his head back and laughing, clutching his stomach.

Ren Jidian pulled him by the collar. "Hey, why the hell are you laughing!? I'm confessing my feelings here!"

"Haha.... sigh..." Wei Sizhi wiped a tear from his eyes.

"Why do you assume so much about me, Dian-Dian? Just because I spent one night with an alpha, does that mean I magically fall in love with him? Do you think I'm that shallow, that I just like big dicks?"

"No, of course not!" Ren Jidian took off the baseball cap he was wearing and toyed with it. "I'm just.... you know...."

"Insecure?"

"A little. You know I've always wanted to be an alpha." Ren Jidian wore the cap again backwards.

"But I'm stuck with this small fragile body that can't protect you like I promised. "

"Wow, that promise was so long ago when we were kids, and you still haven't let go of it?" Wei Sizhi grinned. "How loyal you are to me."

"I don't think I will ever let go of it." Ren Jidian answered seriously, eyes narrowing. "I still want to be the one who protects you and keeps you smiling despite this awful world."

Wei Sizhi's mocking peach blossom eyes softened, and he nodded. "I see."

There was another awkward pause, and they just droop their hands on the railing, letting the moment pass.

Wei Sizhi went to mocking again. "So you think I need protecting then? That I'm like a damsel to be saved—"

"I don't think that at all. I want to protect you as much you want to protect me."

Ren Jidian answered honestly, and took his hand.

" I want us to be there for each other no matter what. Partners in crime, you and me against every fucking else, that kind of stuff."

"Isn't that just friendship?" Wei Sizhi said, and push his hand away. "We will still have that even if we get paired off with someone else. You must be confusing friendship with love."

"Can't I love my friend?" Ren Jidian frowned. "Who's to say you can't be both in my life, man? I know this feeling is real, okay!?"

"Haha! I know, I know." Wei Sizhi elbowed him. "Man, you're so eager right now! I'm just teasing you!"

He patted his head. "I believe you."

Ren Jidian felt already relieved with that.

He placed a hand on his chest. Just Wei Sizhi acknowledging his feelings that he had kept hidden for so many years makes his heart flutter.

His best friend then asked him. "So.... what now?"

Wei Sizhi took Ren Jidian's blue baseball cap from him and wore it for himself. "Are you asking me to be your lover?"

"...Do you want to?"

"Hmm...." Wei Sizhi pretended to think about it. "Depends on you, I guess."

"Gah! You're so frustrating, you know that!?" Ren Jidian took his cap back and messed up his friend's smooth hair with pink highlights. "Always acting like a smartass."

Wei Sizhi just snickered. "That's because I am a smart person with a nice pair of ass."

"Yeah, yeah. Wish I had half the confidence to say the shit you do." Ren Jidian sighed.

"Anyway.... it's too complicated. People dating their same subgenders are being hated and treated as freaks right now. If two omegas got together, it would be even rarer than alphas going for alphas. So I'm not so sure...."

"You don't have the guts, huh?" Wei Sizhi taunted him, folding his arms and raising his eyebrow. "Pity. Never thought of you as a coward."

Ren Jidian's eyes darkened and he pulled Wei Sizhi closer by the collar. He said firmly. "I'm not a coward."

Wei Sizhi just gave a sly smirk. "Then prove it, Dian-Dian. Say what you really want to do."

Ren Jidian let go of him. "I see what you're doing now. You're just riling me up to be more rebellious like you, aren't you?"

"Is it working? You really need to let go of that 'chill skaterboy' facade that you put up for yourself."

The rebellious brat patted his cheek. "It's just us. So say what you wanna do. It's not like I'm gonna judge."

"But you still haven't answered my question yet. It's not just what I want that matters." Ren Jidian put his hands on his hoodie pockets, hesitating.

"Do you even.... like me too? Be serious now, I really want to know the truth."

Wei Sizhi turned to look at the sunset with a seemingly satisfied smile, before turning back to face him. He didn't say anything for a long while.

In his mind, Ren Jidian prepared for the worse.

Is he going to reject him? Wei Sizhi is like the wind, after all. You can't get an accurate read on him because he was always changing.

The longer it took for Wei Sizhi to answer, the more Ren Jidian lost hope.

Maybe he's just getting mixed signals from him because of his touchy, playful personality.

Maybe this will cause Wei Sizhi to truly drift away from him now, knowing that his friend, which was the only person he feels free with, also wants to capture his heart.

Maybe—

All these thoughts burst like a bubble once Wei Sizhi kissed him.

Soft and short, only lasting in the blink of an eye. But it was enough to make the 'chill skaterboy's' heart race.

"There. I've answered your question, now you answer mine." Wei Sizhi did not move his hands from his shoulder once he pulled away. "What do you want to do now?"

"I want to....." Ren Jidian buried his head on the crevice of his neck, hugging Wei Sizhi by the waist.

"I want to run away with you."

"Sounds like a good plan." Wei Sizhi returned the hug back, grinning. "But where?"

"Anywhere. Far from here."

"When?"

"Now."

And so, they run to no direction whatsoever, two fools holding hands as the night came in the quiet City A.

It was suspiciously quiet for a weekend in a usually bustling populace, but Wei Sizhi and Ren Jidian didn't care.

Running across sidewalks and highways, they left the city on foot with barely any money on their wallets and any plans for their eloping.

Ren Jidian would sometimes set his skateboard down and Wei Sizhi would hold on behind him as they skate together.... zooming past the city border, the wind in their hair and yelling like a bunch of hooligans.

"Whoohooo! Fuck you, City A! Yeah!"

As they left the city, they came across an intersection.

Two omegas in one skateboard, they make a turn—

BAM!!!!!

Only to be hit by a speeding truck!
