9 Magnet for Trouble

Amanda sighed as she reminisced on these memories of their time together. She may have over-read things and they may not have been like that. She trudged along the road on her way to the apartment.

Unbeknownst to her, three pairs of eyes had followed her when she stepped out of the restaurant. The female cashier had looked at her receding back with ridicule. She rolled her eyes and turned back to her work.

The waiter on the other hand had an unreadable look on his face as he watched the girl's melancholic looking back. He realised that he had his hands clenched tightly by his side. "Kelvin! are you still here? I thought your shift ended half an hour ago?" a voice called out to him. He turned towards the voice and responded, "Yes, my shift ended but I had something to take care of. See you tomorrow", he smiled at his manager and left the restaurant.

The third pair of eyes observed all these persons with a complex look on his face. He felt that the girl was interesting. There were not many people who would reject 'free' money at a time when they most needed it even under the bizarre circumstance, He nodded to himself and turned back to the task that had brought him to the restaurant.

It was a little dim outside. Even though it was just after seven pm, it was quite dark. The evening was grey and gloomy as was evident by the dark clouds that had gathered. It seemed to echo how Amanda felt on the inside. The roadside had gravels that would otherwise have been very beautiful to admire because of their colours and how they glistened in the night, but it was practically impossible to walk in even in her short heels. This made Amanda walk leisurely as if she was on a friendly stroll with some friends except, she was very much alone both inside and out.

After walking for some time, her feet started to hurt so she decided to use a shortcut and deviate from the main road a bit. She stood at that junction for a while as she contemplated. The narrow route looked dark as it was devoid of any streetlights and the moon was obscured by the clouds. "It looks like it is about to rain", she said to herself as she felt the evening breeze get stronger as the winds started to pick up speed. She was hesitant but throwing all caution to the wind, she took a step toward the dark alley that would save her some time and get her home earlier.

The waiter, Kelvin, noticed after leaving the restaurant that he had missed his bus while he was delayed getting off work.

"Sigh",

"I have to walk then. I will just take that as my missed gym session today", he smiled to himself and plugged his ears with headphones and set off. He noticed the girl who had just left the restaurant a few meters in front of him. Kelvin had been very captivated when the girl first walked into the restaurant earlier that day.

"I have experienced all sorts of emotions today because of you, girl. I am quite intrigued". He said under his breath and slowed down a bit so that he could watch her at a safe distance. He frowned when he saw her enter the dark alley. That alley was known as the best and worst short path in the area. It was indeed short but that was the place where many gangsters held their shady businesses. "Is she in her right mind? Why would she use that path alone? Anyway no one would be in their right mind after what the girl had experienced today". He shook his head and thought to himself. He could not shake the expression on her face at the time of the 'proposal' from his head.

It was then that he saw three men cross the road and enter the same alley as the girl had.

"She seems to be a magnet for trouble," he whispered and quickened his pace in the same direction.

"Get a room!" a girl shouted inside the cinema as the movie was ongoing. This drew the attention to the couple at a secluded corner who seemed to have come in, to make out instead of to watch the movie as the place was purposely for. Snickers could be heard all around them, but they were lost in their own world. Eddy and Ella sat side by side with their mouths locked. They had been kissing almost nonstop since the movie had begun and it was almost halfway through. It was obvious that they could not keep their hands away from themselves.

One mother was so annoyed that she called in a staff member as she was in the cinema with her kids.

"Please advise the couple over there to remove themselves and get a room!" she said frustratingly. The staff was in a difficult position and looked almost helpless, but he had no option as most of the people in the room were requesting it. He tentatively approached the kissing couple and tapped the man on the shoulder.

Clearing his throat, he started, "Sir, this is a PG13 movie, and it is not right that you do this here, please-",

"Do you know who I am!?" Ella interrupted the man before he could finish his statement.

"No, I do not know who you are ma'am but please be a little cautious of your audience, the room is filled with mostly kids". Ella rolled her eyes at him and stated.

"We just got engaged!"

"Congratulations on that ma'am but can you please change your location for this... please?"

Eddy apologised and they got up to leave with his arms around Ella's waist. He cursed under his breath, "Why did Amanda choose this childish movie? This is so typical of her!"

He rubbed his hands on Ella's back to calm her down as she had a pout. They grabbed a few drinks and entered Eddy's cars in the lot. Ella felt like the happiest girl in the world as most girls would feel when they got engaged to someone, they liked so she let Eddy do a little more than usual. Ella sat on his lap, and they continued their make-out session as if they could not get enough of each other.
