Chapter Thirty: Back Home

The two arrived inside Kai's quarters.

Kai's black coat fluttered for a while before settling down. Underneath them was a glowing teleportation array which disappeared after a few seconds.

The teleportation only took an instant. After safely moving to the inn finally, Seth removed his hand from Kai's shoulder and lowered his head slightly. He didn't say anything, so Kai noticed the silence and looked at him.

"Is there something wrong? What is it that you wanted to tell me?" He asked the mage.

Kai was in a bit of a hurry and sure enough, Seth also knew. Since he said that he has something to say despite knowing Helix's current condition and that the two are in a rush to leave the capital, then Kai thought that this might be something important.

Seth raised his gaze and his eyes met Kai's. He then shook his head and calmly answered. "Regarding the mission, I would like to add something." He closed his eyes for a moment and when he opened them, he moved the gaze of his golden eyes. "That demon beast has caused no harm. He probably is about to get out of its deep slumber, which for unknown reason, is happening two years earlier."

Oh, so this was what he wanted to talk about.

"... You know about this demon beast?"

Why did he not tell this in front of the king then?

The golden eyes narrowed down. Seth's mood turned slightly strange as he answered, "Yes. I believe it has been ninety-eight years since I last saw him."

Ninety-eight…

As expected of the immortal protagonist…

So old…

Those words momentarily distracted Kai's thoughts but he eventually recovered and asked, "This demon beast, you know quite a bit about it. Then why am I ordered to be exterminated if I deemed it aggressive? And, you are someone much more capable of handling this task, you should've been chosen to do this instead."

Seth looked at him and quietly answered, "That demon beast won't be aggressive. He is… a calm being unless you try to aggregate him first… The king's priority is to bring the demon beast alive to him."

"So you want me to capture it and bring it to the king? That's the order that was given to me anyway." Kai didn't really understand what this person was talking about. He wanted to sigh but Seth spoke up,

"No. I want you to keep him away from the capital. If it's fine with you and Helix, I want to ask you to let him stay in your castle for a while until I convince the king to agree."

"Why is Helix suddenly brought up…?"

"Wasn't he staying with you?"

"... Right."

Kai coughed and ignored the previous exchange and asked again,"It's all fine as long as it's harmless but why do we have to do this? If it's not something too personal, then I would like to know the reason for this request." There was only one demon beast mentioned in the novel.

It was the crown prince's demon beast who he used as a tool for various things. If Kai remembered correctly, that demon beast shouldn't show up now but later in the novel. Around two to three years from now, maybe.

Seth stared at Kai indifferently for a while and moved his gaze to the… air. There was nothing but he was staring nevertheless. Seth does do this a lot, Kai noticed.

Seth then shook his head and simply said, "A friend of mine is acquainted with the demon beast. I also know him personally. That's all."

'A friend of his? Did this guy even have friends? No way that the prince is his friend, right?'

There are really a lot of mysteries and questions revolving around this person. Kai was curious but he'd rather focus on the current topic.

"If… somehow, he is brought to the king in his current state, I doubt that he'll have any strength to resist. His magic is not suitable for offense or defense so he won't be able to do much when the king forces a binding collar on him." Seth's eyes dimmed a little as he sighs quietly. "The king plans to turn the demon beast into his tool. I don't really want something like that to happen to him." His voice was low and quiet, it could be barely called a whisper even.

Seth looked at Kai and bowed his head a bit. "I ask you to please give him a place to stay for a while until the king gives me permission that will allow the demon beast to be free."

And then, he closed his eyes and solemnly swore, "I'll take responsibility if the king negatively implicates you regarding this request of mine."

Ah… So coincidentally, this demon beast is actually the one from the novel that Kai knows. This too, didn't divert from the original plot.

That demon beast from the novel was nothing but a slave and a tool for torture and interrogation. As Seth had stated, his primary and only bloodline magic is not for offense or defense. The demon beast's magic is Dream magic.

It affects others psychologically.

The demon beast was forced to wear a magic collar and his ability was used for psychological attacks against others. To break people's minds seemed to be the prince's hobby, so he took a liking to the beast and kept it as his. It's pretty much one of the reasons why Kai is not a particular fan of the prince.

Kai closed his eyes and thought of the other person that's resting in the next room.

The demon beast and Helix, aren't they quite similar?

Maybe because of that fact that Kai was able to decide very quickly.

"As long as you confirm that the demon beast is completely harmless and that I won't take blame for your request, I am willing to do it."

Having another companion in the castle doesn't sound so bad.

Seth raised his head and looked at Kai for a while before nodding his head slightly. "I swear no harm will befall upon you because of this request. And I also owe you one for this." He then thought for a moment and then Seth grabbed a piece of paper through his space magic and gave it to Kai.

"If you ever found yourself in a very difficult situation, please do not hesitate to contact me." The piece of paper is the same as what Helix once gave Kai. Seeing the familiar writing, Kai could help but feel strange as he reluctantly accepted.

"Then… This discussion is over, isn't it?" Kai looked at Seth, it was obvious that he wanted to leave as soon as possible.

The other person couldnt help but sigh, "Pack your things?"

"I didn't bring much, everything's already packed including everything I've bought."

"..."

Seeing that Seth was speechless, Kai struck another question he was unsure of. "Do you… know where to teleport us?"

For once, Seth wanted to sigh.

-

Kai managed to convince Helix to move to his room.

He is very weak in his current condition but he's still as grumpy as ever. It was hard to persuade the angered mage to face the one who put him into this situation in the first place.

Now, Helix sat on the bed, crossing both his arms and legs as he tried to look intimidating and imposing as much as possible. His thin eyebrows were furrowed and his purple eyes were strictly glaring at Seth who only indifferently returned to gaze. There were beads of sweat forming all over Helix's body but he ignored it as if it didn't matter. His sole focus is to make the other great mage in the room as uncomfortable as he is now.

Kai looked at these two opposing mages and weakly turned to Seth.

"You two might have a lot of things to talk about after a long while of not meeting. However, Helix's condition is obviously not good. I would like to ask you to send us back now." Seth didn't mind the lack of formalities in Kai's statement and finally, he moved his gaze away from Helix.

"What things to talk about? I have nothing to say to this man."

"..."

"..."

Seth looked at Helix solemnly and a bit gloomily and said, "Treating you now will only cause your status to worsen. This environment is not good for you. I'll find some other time to⸻"

"Shut up, I don't need your help. Why are you so persistent about this? It's getting annoying."

"..."

"..."

When it comes to being blunt and harsh with words, nobody's as good as Helix after all.

After a while of keeping his silence, Seth ultimately decided to ignore Helix and told Kai instead, "Please remember my words." Without any warning then, he grabbed both Helix and Kai and casted an instant teleportation.

There wasn't even enough time for the two to react. When they blinked, they just found themselves at Kai's familiar room, together with the small amount of belongings they brought and bought. They initially just stared off into the blank space, still at daze about the sudden teleportation which happened without any further notice at all. It was Helix who reacted first.

He clicked his tongue, clenched his hands into tight fists and then stormed off from anger.

Kai, who is now left alone in the room, "..."

He's really still angry… isn't he? But Kai hasn't done anything wrong…

Kai looked at the door which Helix left through and sighed quietly. He walked towards his bed and jumped in, bouncing back a little when he landed. Kai stared at the familiar ceiling which he hadn't seen for a day or so.

Right…

All those things happened only in the span of a day and half in the capital. So much things going on and so much information he had to take in and so many people he had to meet.

Kai rubbed his eyes gently as he felt a strain in both his eyes and mind.

Nevertheless, he decided to stand up and leave his room. He just left all his luggages behind but he brought the shopping bags he brought from the capital. All these, he bought for Helix. He almost forgot about it after the banquet but earlier, he saw these bags from the corner of his eyes. With these, he should have some excuse to see Helix's condition…

Author: Writing without a laptop or computer is really hard ah... Plus, my phone is damaged and some parts of the screen wont function when touched...

Author: Anyway, we finally reached the 30th chapter!! I didn't expect that I would continue Twisting Fate for so long!
