Prologue

The world we once knew had changed in an unexpected way. Fifteen years ago when the meteor shower had struck the earth, the population of the world had become infected with what our government called a parasite. They had said the parasite had come off of the fallen meteors and that was what was causing the outbreak of a disease that no one knew what it was.

When a person became infected, they did not have any physical symptoms, but the psychological symptoms were very loud. The infected would become irritable and then angry, but if they were left untreated they would be blinded by a wild rage and go into a frenzy. After an infected person would have an angry outburst that is when the mutation had started.

After the mutations were visible on the infected they started biting anyone they could get their disgusting hands on, and if the person wasn't infected, the parasite would move to them and infect them. Then, it seemed many of the infected and the non infected started dying off, but the mutations that lived had adapted to living in our world.

Half of the population were dying and the government tried to contain it the best they could when the outbreak started getting out of hand. However, their attempts of saving lives from the infectious parasite had failed tremendously. The disease spread throughout the world like wildfire and killed thousands and then the government and some of the infected disappeared.

No one in the world expected this and the world didn't know what had hit them when the apocalypse began. Devastation, anger, and hate took over the world and it became dead in its wake. The world as we knew it was nothing but a distant memory.

Corporal Amanda and Corporal Megan of the Delta 1, Delta A squadron had been lifelong friends, and they had joined the army right after graduation. Their sergeant was D.J. and during the years through training and going on missions, the three of them had become very close.

Growing up together, the girls believed that one day the world was going to end in some hellish way and they came up with silly ideas on survival skills and the things they would do if the world ever did suffer a tragedy.

Right before the meteor shower, Amanda and Megan were sent home on leave for a few weeks. They got to spend time with their families and their boyfriends. Everything seemed to be perfect in their world until the meteor shower hit and then everything started to get weird.

Amanda and Megan kept in touch with each other and when things were starting to get even stranger, they started to stock up on little things like batteries, cans of gas, essentials, and they even had stocked up on cases of MREs. Made ready to eat meals came in very handy, and the girls didn't seem to mind eating them. They had been eating them the entire time they lived on the base.

Amanda had a four door, extended cab and bed truck that had a snow plow attached to the front of it. When she ordered the truck from the dealership, she wanted the military package which included the truck to be made of bulletproof materials and secret compartments in the truck and in the truck bed. Also, she had an automatic cover to cover the bed of the truck so no one could see the goodies that she was hiding.

During the chaos of the world turning upside down, Amanda's boyfriend, Eddy decided that he would take a trip to the next town and grab his parents. The cell service went down and he worried about them greatly.

Evidently, Amanda begged him not to go. She said it was too dangerous for him to be out there on his own, but unfortunately, he didn't listen. He said he loved her and that he would be back soon. As she watched him leave, she feared that she would never see him again.
