The Black Parade
[S pov]
Clutching his father's hand tightly, we moved along the crowded sidewalk till we could see the street. The sound of horns and drums, a marching band.
"Can you hear it? The beautiful music on this bright summer day. Do you know why they play?" his father asked close in his ear.
"Because they're paid to?" he replied, knowing his father was going to correct him.
"No," he corrected, "because it's what they love". He looked at him, "and someday when you grow up, you'll do something you love too, I just know it". His father pointed towards the French horn player, "That's my favorite instrument, their sound is so beautiful and flowing".
"Woah…" he watched and listened as the boy's eyes shined on the glowing instruments of the massive band that passed. They played very flowing and elegant music, as unfitting as it was for a marching band. It was a big day for many. It was the annual celebration for outgoing high school students leaving the kingdom to pursue their dreams.
"Kino, you have a whole life of ups and downs ahead of you. Speaking of which, you start your next year of school in a few weeks."
That's right, he would be starting his first year of high school and just like the shining of the silver instruments of the band, his father assured the boy that his future was bright. But for now, he would enjoy his time as a kid because the future may be closer than he thinks…
Tossing and turning in the covers "Thank god, just another bad dream, just another bad dream," he keeps repeating. I felt something was coming; I just couldn't figure out what. There wasn't much time between each waking. With each, he would wake up saying the same thing: "Just another bad dream, just another bad dream". Maybe it was the cold glow of the moon, or maybe it was the restless way he turned in his sleep. He somehow sounded older, just by the tone of his voice; the darkness in his eyes. Something was definitely coming. He was running out of moonlight. He would be akin to a raccoon if he didn't get enough sleep.
