Hunger.

Stepping out of the station, Nate took a glance at the piece of paper he was holding.

This man, this Steven Clide should have answers for him. Maybe he can clear things for him on how and where his father got the idea to turn him into what he was, and maybe find an answer to his impending hunger?

Nate went on to go down the 4 step stairs that were connected to the entrance of the sheriff station, but a dizzy spell hit him before the last step, and he fell down.

'AUGH'

Nate couldn't help but moan in pain, as he felt a pang of something he couldn't explain.

Nate felt nesous, dizzy, confused and hysteric all at the same time, but the thing that caught his attention between his dizzy spell was the pit feeling he had in his stomach,

HUNGER.

"Hey! you okay son" a sherifs deputy that was going to his cruiser came over to help Nate, he reached out to grab Nates shoulder but as quickly as he got a hold, Nate shrugged him off.

"I'm fine, im fine" He said, gritting his teeth.

Nate looked at the face of the worried officer and all he saw and heard was the defining sound of something beating, and as Nate watched the officers face, his eyes traveled to his neck where he saw a vein bulging and pulsating with blood.

"ah...ah" Nate made a chocking noise and he grabbed his neck.

"Hey , look, let me take..."

"I..m....fine" Nate said in pain, before rushing to were he parked his car, and went inside.

Nate closed his eyes as he grabbed the steering wheal, he felt like the world was too small.

His senses were going out of whack as he heard and smelled everything that was in a 50 mile radius, this was it, he was going to loose control wasn't he.

Nate not knowing what to do just grabbed his mp3 player and pressed the play button without knowing what would come on.

....

...

.....

....

...

..

Silence.

Everything from his hearing, to his sense of smell to the pain he felt all over and to the stomach renching hunger, were gone as he heard the soothing voice of the lady that was singing the sad music.

- No, I can't be the only one who's lonely tonight No, I can't be the only

There's gotta be somebody out there

There's gotta be somebody somewhere

That needs company, and it's comforting to know, know -

It was like everything he was feeling just a moment ago was washed away like a dream.

"Huh" He sighed a deep sigh.

The music kept playing as Nate looked himself in the rearview mirror, his face that was usually a pale colour was a shade of grey and black, and his eyes that were brown were glowing red.

"So this is what I truly am" He said in a small voice as his features slowly started to turn back to normal.

"Man and I thought I was starting to get the hang of it" He was wrong, that was just the first hunger attack, if he wanted to keep his secret, then he needed to feed,

he needed to...., before he could finish the thought his phone started to ring.

Looking at the caller id, Nate saw and unknown id, before picking it up.

"Hello?"

"Umm, is this Nate, I'm sorry did I catch you on a bad time" He heard a familiar voice.

"Leah, is that you?" Nate asked.

"Yeah, if this is a bad time I can call you later" Leah said.

Nate turned of the music that was coming from the mp3 player.

"No, it's fine" He said.

Leah who went silent for a moment made a funny noise before going to speak.

"I'm sorry how we left things last time, that wasn't fair" She said.

It took a moment for Nate to realise what she was talking about, because his brain was too occupied on everything that's been happening.

"O, yeah, no it's fine, I found my way back, and besides you were doing me a favour by walking me, you didn't have to do that" He said, realising she was talking about the way she left abruptly

"Huh, alright, good" she said.

.

.

"Was..that the reason you called,..to apologise" Nate asked a bit confused on where she got his number and why she was calling, he didn't mind it but, it was a bit out of the blue.

"Right, yes, your DAW is fixed, that's why I called?" She said, which made Nate happy.

"That's perfect, when can I come and get it?" He asked a bit too enthusiastic, completely forgetting that he almost ripped the throut of a police officer with his teeth just a moment ago.

"If, it's not too much to ask, how would now sound, the store is a bit busy so our storage space is limited and your..." she said stopping mid sentence.

"My DAW is taking up space, no problem I'll be right there, see you soon" Nate said, before ending the call.

Looking at his phone for a minute.

"At least I got some good news" Nate said before starting the engine of the car and driving off.

...

The bells of the store chimed as Nate walked in.

Leah who was waiting on him waved as he entered the store,

"Hey" Nate greeted Leah, who had her usual passive face.

"Hey" She said, as she lifted his DAW off the shelf that was behind the counter

"There wasn't much damage, the cables that where supposed to be connected to the chip just came off, just had to put them back in place" She said, as she presented it to Nate.

Nate did a once over before smiling at her.

"Looks good as new, thanks for this" he said appreciatively.

"No problem, just doing my job" She said offhandedly

Nate, realised the second time he met Leah, that she was going through something like a breakup, if the way she ran way from that guy from the beach had any indication. So that's why he didn't feel offended by her cold nature, if anything it was a nice change of pace.

"So how much is this going to cost me?" Nate inquired as he looked at Leah

"Well, considering it wasn't a major work, it comes to around 40 bucks" She said, as Nate took his wallet and put a 50 bill.

"Keep the change, I'll be a regular" He said, picking up the heavy machine like it was nothing.

Turning around to leave, Nate took a glance back at Leah who for just a moment had a sad look on her face.

He knew that look all too well, so weather it was sense of duty or the fact that he thought Leah was an attractive girl, he did something quiet out of character.

"Hey" Nate turned around getting Leah attention.

"So, I was wondering. if you wanted to hang out sometime, I had fun talking to you the other day before.." Nate said.

"I ditched you?" She tried a word.

"Before things were... interrupted"He corrected

"So what do you say, we grab a bite together...or it doesn't have to be a food, we can do something else maybe you can show me around.." Nate said ranting a bit at the end.

But before he could continue on with his rant, he heard a laugh.

Looking at Leah who was laughing at him, he couldn't help but chuckle as well.

"You're very bad at this you know" She said, smiling for the second time they were together.

Scratching his head sheepishly, Nate said " Yeah sorry, a bit out of practise" he said.

It was true, Nate wasn't one to mix with the opposite sex . Don't get him wrong, he was a man and a straight one at that. it's just with his mother and all the things life has been throwing at him he hasn't found time for "enjoyment" As his best friend likes to call it.

"So, what do you think" He asked Leah, who was smiling lightly.

"I..I can't go on a date, right now" She finally said.

Knowing where this was going, Nate said.

"I guessed as much, that's why it isn't a date, think of as you giving me a tour, yeah you can be my tour guide" He said, in a light humorous voice.

Leah who was still a bit hesitant gave in when Nate added a condition.

"I'll buy you ice cream?" Nate said, making Leah smile once more.

"Well, how can I say no to free ice cream," She said.

"Great, it's a tour then" He said once more, making Leah laugh.

"Bye" She said, waving him off, while Nate also said the same as he exited the shop with his fixed DAW.

Nate who was smiling, walked towards his car, not at all guessing a stressful day like this could turn out so well. He was used to drowning in stress, so it was a nice for a change.

Nate who was walking towards his car without paying attention to his surroundings was bumped into by someone. with his fast reflexes, he caught the person who bumped into him as he held is DAW with his other hand.

"I'm so sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going" Said the lady that looked to be in her late forties or early fifties.

"No it's fine, I wasn't paying attention either" Nate said, as he let go of the lady while she recovered her grocery bag that was on the floor.

When she finally gathered her stuff, she looked up to greet Nate but something in her face changed, and what she said next took Nathaniel by surprise.

"Michail?" she said.
