64 The reality of the world

Looking off into the distance, Patricia and Beth threw their bags in the back of the van and climbed into the car.

With such a situation developing the drivers of the two cars didn't dare leave the way they had come, so Shane listened to Jimmy's instructions and they drove down a small road in the opposite direction.

Beth leaned against the back window of the van and watched her home move farther and farther out of her range of vision. Helplessly, a depressing mood took over her body.

Glenn who was driving the van quickly noticed that the sad mood spread through everyone, each person had their own thoughts about it. He knew better than anyone that they were not feeling well, he had gone through the same feeling of desolation. He did not take the initiative to speak, and simply took it upon himself to drive in silence.

After driving for about half an hour, some people came to a town, it was already dark and Shane didn't want to drive at night, so he had to find a temporary shelter here.

A group of people arrived at a place with few houses on the outskirts of the village and chose one at random with the door closed.

"Keep your eyes open, the walkers won't be the only enemies." Shane waited for Richard to open the door and walked in with a shotgun in hand. After climbing up to the second floor, looking into each room and then two muffled sounds were heard before Shane walked down the stairs.

"What was that noise?" Glenn asked a little nervously.

"It was nothing, it was two walkers that had been wiped!" Shane said as he wiped his nose and gestured to the people outside to come inside.

"Come on, help me get these two corpses out of the house."

After talking and checking the inside of the house one more time, Glenn returned with the rest of the group and they all went inside the house. As Hershel Richard and Morgan walked past him carrying two walker corpses. Glenn obviously saw that he froze for a moment.

With a sigh in his heart, Glenn couldn't care that much now, as long as he got Hershel out safely, he was already very satisfied with that outcome.

The small group who had been very agitated all day were exhausted. Seeing this, Shane told them all to rest and that tomorrow they would return to the prison depending on the situation outside.

Entering the bathroom, Shane pulled out the radio and reported to Sam Valdez, "Zz.... Shane here, we were able to rescue the people at the farm, but due to the overall situation we will return tomorrow."

"Zz... Did you see which direction the horde of walkers moved in? I must be sure it's not headed in our direction, over." Sam Valdez's voice came out of the intercom with a soft tone.

"Zz... Nothing to worry about, the horde moved in a direction away from the prison, but you must not let your guard down!"

"Zz... Got it, I'll keep you posted and don't forget to maintain your security." Sam Valdez said before ending the communication.

"Zz... Got it!"

...

Back to the group that was still in the city of Atlanta taking every opportunity they had to rescue survivors and loot places, they were traveling at a slow pace due to the complicated streets.

Inside the bus at the back, Arion sat next to the driver, staring out with wide eyes. In addition to Daniel's group, they had rescued a teacher with some students, some firefighters with their classmates, and two young people who had been running from the walkers.

This group of people were all sitting in the free spaces of the bus and all of them were watched by Airon's eyes, he had previously briefed his people in code words to keep an eye out for this group of people.

Airon knew that trusting people was a good thing, but not trusting was a much better thing. He could smell the desperation and also the desire to survive, and that itself made people make the wrong decisions.

But within all the people who need to be saved there is a group that wants something more, their ambition or desire makes them want to take more than they can actually hold and that was something they had always been careful of.

Two large trucks and a bus headed towards the outskirts of Atlanta in the direction of the prison, in Airon's group there were more than ten people with experience in weapons and combat. You could say that Daniel and Jim were reliable people who received weapons to support the protection of the group.

It was already getting dark and as an old hunter's experience says, night is when the old wolf seeks his prey. Just when all was quiet, the sound of Airon's radio suddenly rang out and Rick's voice came from the intercom.

"Zz... Airon, there's a woman with a baby in the middle of the road, approximately fifty meters away."

Hearing this, Airon frowned, signaling George who was the conduit and Jim next to Daniel. "Zz... Situation in the vicinity, what do you see?"

"Zz... The woman is not moving and is in the middle of the road, she doesn't appear to be infected and to the naked eye is calling for help."

"Get ready to help her, I'll take care of getting close to her and you guys stay close to the trucks, I don't like the way this looks!" Airon said before he grabbed his gun and put the radio down on his chest.

"Jim, Daniel, you are experienced combat men and this time your job will be to protect this bus, apparently there is a survivor that needs to be saved but I don't like this situation at all." Airon stood by the door of the bus as the convoy slowed down.

"Do you think it's a trap?" Daniel asked with a frown, to tell the truth people today would be very untrustworthy.

"We'll be ready." Jim said as he grabbed an M4 and stood to check the surroundings with watchful eyes.

"What's going on?" asked Carlos with sleepy eyes.

"No talking, everyone keep your heads down from the windows and wait for everything to settle."

After saying that, the convoy stopped on the cold road while Arion took the moment to get out of the bus and move forward at high speed with his gun in his hands, now this city was a bit quieter because of the walkers that were attracted to the other side of the city by the siren in the CDC, this could give a lot of incentive to people to do unpredictable things.

After everyone had stopped, Elias and the other soldiers came out from behind the truck and took cover behind the tank, with light machine guns and sniper rifles, everyone kept alert.

As time went on, everyone became more and more alert and Airon, who had already reached the door of the truck ahead, knocked lightly before it was opened.

"Take my gun and be ready for any anomaly, don't worry about my safety!" Airon said as he handed his M4 to the driver in front and held his knife in his vest holster before approaching the woman who was silently stopped in the middle of the road.

Of course, during this whole period of time people took the opportunity to move around and position themselves. "Hello ma'am, we are from the army, what is your situation?"

Seeing the road clear ahead and without any walkers, Airon felt a strange sensation in his body. Walking leisurely, he moved closer and closer to the lady who was kneeling on the ground while holding what appeared to be a baby in her arms.

"Madam, come closer to my side, I promise to help you with all your problems!" Airon said with a calm look on his face. As the situation was becoming more and more critical, Airon walked forward and stood a meter away from the person.

"Sir, please help me..." Just when Airon and his group in the distance thought something was not right, the lady looked up and saw Airon.

Airon was puzzled for a moment, and then realized that the lady's appearance was disheveled and very dirty, as if she hadn't bathed in a long time. But there was something that really caught his attention and that was the lady's necklace, when the lady looked at Airon's eyes on her chest he tucked the mental plates under a blanket.

"Are you the only one in this place, ma'am?" asked Airon with a slight reassuring smile.

Hearing Airon's question, the lady's body trembled slightly and she nodded quickly. She looked towards Arion and her eyes showed a slight nervousness, this was definitely not expected, no one else approached this place besides Airon.

When he saw that the lady had no intention of speaking, Airon held her shoulders and helped lift her off the ground before saying, "Don't worry, she'll be safe in a few moments."

"Thank you for your help sir, it will definitely help me a lot." Said the Lady as something metallic lightly hit Airon's stomach.

Even though he already knew something wasn't right, Airon wanted to find out with his own eyes what it was that was troubling him, but as he looked at the gun in his stomach, he smiled sinisterly and said, "Madam, looks like it wasn't a baby you were carrying in your arms!"

"It seems that you must be the captain of the group, am I right? If I take you hostage right now, the others will surrender. You're just as stupid as the others, truly that trusting people these days is really something foolish on their part." Said the lady with a somewhat crazed expression.

The lady holding a pistol, took the gun in Airon's waist holster and soon after three trucks approached from various directions with armed people, by their numbers and weaponry they were definitely not a simple group of survivors.

"Now take your radio and tell everyone to surrender if they don't want to see you die, once we take their stuff we'll let them go." Said the lady with a smile, this was the second time they did something like this.

"Please don't shoot me." Airon spoke with a stoic expression. When she picked up the radio, Airon held it up to her mouth and said, "Eliminate the drivers and don't let any of them leave this place."

When the lady heard these words, the smile on her face froze and she pulled the trigger of her pistol.

"Bang!"

However, at the same time, Airon took a knife and plunged it into the other party's throat. With a sharp pain in his stomach, the bulletproof vest protected him from receiving real damage, but the pain was very unbearable.

Hearing the gunshot and Airon's body jerking, all the men behind her froze for a moment, this situation seemed not right.

"I never trust anyone, bitch!" Airon said as he sheathed his knife and held the woman's body in his arms, by the time all the people saw this it was too late.

Just when Rick and the others heard the gunshot and the situation unfolding they wasted no time and started shooting.
