44 Chapter 1.43

Orion was jolted awake by insistent banging at the front door. "COMING!" he yelled, slightly annoyed. Glancing at the clock, which read 8:09 am, he grumbled and went downstairs to answer the door. Opening it, he was taken aback to find Freya holding a grimoire.

"Hello, Handsomel," Freya greeted with a kind smile. Orion looked at her, still half-asleep and dumbfounded. Freya chuckled, saying, "Elijah was going to give this to you, but I took it before he could. Wanted to hand it to you in person."

She handed Orion the grimoire, who took it with a curious smile. "Niklaus wasn't too thrilled about you having it, but after being reminded that you saved our lives and helped with his hybrid problem, he reluctantly agreed," Freya explained, the smirk still playing on his lips.

"Since you're awake, let's hang out and go to the Grill for breakfast," Freya suggested. "You're already up, and you promised to talk."

Orion looked at Freya with a stupefied expression, contemplating the proposal. Bonnie had chosen to spend the night elsewhere, and he wasn't in the mood to cook breakfast. After briefly considering, Orion assessed Freya from head to toe and finally said, "Give me 15 minutes to get ready."

Orion quickly freshened up and changed into a more casual outfit. As he descended the stairs, Freya was waiting at the door with a grin.

"Ready to start the day?" Freya asked, and Orion couldn't help but smile at the perpetual enthusiasm.

"Yeah, yeah. Let's get going," Orion replied, and they made their way to the Grill.

The familiar bell above the entrance chimed as they walked in, and the aroma of breakfast filled the air. The place was relatively quiet, with only a few patrons scattered around. Freya led the way to an empty booth, and they settled in.

"So, what's on your mind, Freya?" Orion inquired as he scanned the menu.

She leaned back, crossed her arms, and flashed a playful smile. "Well, let's discuss magic, adventures, or whatever else comes to mind.

Orion arched an eyebrow; curiosity is evident in his expression. "So, you never told me what you did with your mother."

Freya leaned back, a smirk playing on her lips. "Well, Niklaus knocked her out, and I bound her magic so she couldn't use it. Right now, she's in the basement, locked down there, being tortured by Kol and questioned."

Orion couldn't help but chuckle. "Tortured and questioned, huh? Your family gatherings sound like a real joy."

Freya winked, the mischievous glint in her eyes undeterred. "Oh, you have no idea."

Freya fixed her gaze on Orion. "So, tell me about yourself, who is Orion Bennett?"

" Why do you care," Orion asked with a coy smile.

Freya's eyes sparkled with mirth as she replied, "Why wouldn't I care? After all, we will spend quite a bit of time together.

Orion smirked at Freya's attempt at flattery. "Well, don't expect me to spill all my secrets immediately. I like to keep a bit of mystery."

Freya chuckled. "Fair enough. We all have our little secrets, don't we?"

"But I'll give you a quick run down," Orion replied

Orion nodded, a hint of amusement in his eyes. "Alright, here's the condensed version. I grew up thinking my dad was my biological father, which you already met. It Seems like we skipped a few steps here: I met your mother, and you met my father. Mom left for most of my childhood, came back with ominous prophecies, and here I am."

Freya raised an eyebrow. "Ominous prophecies, you say?"

Orion smirked. "Yeah, something about either Bonnie or me meeting an untimely demise. Classic supernatural family drama."

As Orion finished his explanation, Matt approached and asked, "Hello, my name is Matt. What can I get you today?"

Orion and Freya continued their conversation as they strolled through the town square after enjoying breakfast. When they reached Orion's home, Freya, with a mischievous grin, surprised Orion by placing a chaste kiss on his cheek. "Goodbye, darling," Freya said with a triumphant smirk as she walked off.

Orion stepped into his home, his mind filled with the recent events. Absentmindedly, he touched the spot on his cheek where Freya's lips had briefly met. Deciding to leave those thoughts for later, he focused on the task at hand—Esther's grimoire.

As he turned the ancient pages, intending to copy her spells into his own grimoire, he encountered a barrier, a magical lock preventing him from accessing the knowledge within. A mischievous smirk played on Orion's lips as he recognized the intricate magic at play. Undeterred, he extended his hand, drawing on his siphoning abilities to dismantle the magical obstacle.

As Orion delved into the ancient text, meticulously translating and absorbing the spells from Esther's grimoire, he finally stumbled upon what he had been seeking—the immortality spell that had sustained Esther for centuries.

As Orion continued his meticulous study, he skillfully transcribed Esther's immortality spell into his own grimoire. However, being a seasoned and innovative practitioner, he couldn't resist the urge to enhance the incantation with his refinements and improvements.

In the margins of his grimoire, Orion meticulously recorded modifications designed to amplify the spell's potency, fortify it with additional layers of protection, and introduce intricacies that Esther's original enchantment sorely lacked. Orion, ever the calculated risk-taker, pondered the potential consequences. He reasoned that unlike the Mikaelsons, whose fertility was halted by Esther's spell, Orion cherished the idea of maintaining the possibility of having children in the future. Unperturbed by the prospect, he continued to refine the spell, aspiring not to mimic the Mikaelsons' brand of immortality but to emulate the primal longevity of Silas and Amara, the first immortals.

Orion possessed a unique advantage over Esther in his pursuit of immortality. Unlike her, he had access to ingredients she didn't consider during the creation of her children's vampirism. Esther had linked their lives to the white oak, granting them immortality and creating a vulnerability tied to the tree. Although the Mikaelsons later destroyed the white oak, nature, in its ever-balancing act, saw a new tree grow 500 years later in its place. Even as Orion entertained the idea of achieving complete immortality, a voice within him urged caution. It whispered the importance of creating a controlled weakness only one he had access to.

Orion understood the flaws in the immortality of ancient beings like Silas and Amara. While they were immortal, mortal versions of themselves were cyclically born and died. This cycle continued endlessly. Elena was the current doppelganger of Amara, while Stefan and Tom took the roles of Silas's counterparts. Esther had capitalized on this natural cycle, using the Petrova doppelgangers as the binding agents for her immortality spell. However, Orion had more ambitious plans, intending to incorporate Elena's blood and Kathrine's, Tom's, and Stefan's into his spell, hoping to make it more potent and binding.

The pages of his grimoire were adorned with a complex tapestry of incantations, runes, and symbols, each serving a specific purpose. Esther's grimoire provided valuable insights into Norwegian runes, enhancing Orion's understanding of their nuances.

As he meticulously worked on the spell, Orion recognized the need to prepare the required ingredients.

Orion reached out to Slater, making arrangements to procure the required ingredients. With the necessary components on their way, he decided to pay a visit to the Mikaelson mansion to have a discussion with Freya and Kol.
