2 Doubting Life

'I'm in Honkai Impact!'

"Hey."

'Fuck how did I get here?'

"Daniel, Daniel!"

'Am I gonna die?'

"DANIEL!"

Snapping from his thoughts, Daniel saw Kiana looking at him worriedly.

"What happened to you?" She checked him from up and down. He was being insufferable earlier and now he suddenly spaced out. Is it related to his situation?

She's surprised how someone who's supposed to be from Europe manages to get here without any luggage or money. He doesn't seem to be lying about his situation.

The question is, how did he get here then? Kiana wanted to ask but suppressed herself. He may not know but he probably has an idea.

Maybe he's also looking for someone else?

"I'm… fine. Just surprised about this outcome." Looking at Kiana's face, Daniel felt that he'll have a headache.

He knows the game Honkai Impact but unfortunately, hasn't played it.

Most of his knowledge came from CG, forums and fanfics but other than that, he doesn't have the slightest idea about the original source.

Now, normally people would probably be jumping in joy after they found out they got isekai'd in their favorite fictional world but he's different.

Not only is this not his favorite, he doesn't have complete knowledge over the plot.

Aside from general, he's basically sitting ducks here. He only remembers that Honkai is a phenomenon that affects the earth by sending any type of disaster with the intent of destroying mankind.

The energy that's causing this is called Honkai energy. This energy is capable of many things such as infecting animals to turn them into Honkai beasts or humans to zombies. Alternatively, it can also be used to power up technology which is used by Valkyries to fight Honkai.

What else? He didn't have time to play the game, he's too busy with work and college to finish.

"Young man, I've reported your situation. We haven't received a reply yet but it should be in a few days." The police officer informed him. He's also feeling pity for this lost young man.

"Thank you sir." Daniel nodded gratefully. The situation has changed but the police officer still helped him.

"What would you do now?" Although Kiana doesn't have a good first impression of him, she couldn't just leave him an account.

As a knight from the house of Kaslana, it's their job to protect the people.

Hmph, he should be grateful that I'm willing to help him, Kiana thought

'Yeah, what do I do now?' No money, no identity, no place to stay and he doesn't know how to speak Japanese.

Seriously, he'll probably die before Honkai gets to him.

"Young man… if you want, I could lend you some money. It should be enough until you get an update about your home." The police officer didn't need to think much. He already realized Daniel's problem.

"No sir, you already helped me a lot. Just give me some work that will help me earn money." Daniel refused. He can feel the goodwill of the police officer but he's not the type of person to do easy work.

Plus his situation is not really what the police officer described. He'll probably have to stay here for very long.

"Is that so? How old are you, young man?" He doesn't mind giving him work, community service should be enough but he needs to verify him first.

"I don't have an ID but I'm 18 years old." Daniel didn't lie, it's been a few months since he turned 18 but even before that, he's already entering part time jobs.

"Alright, you can stay here for a few days." The police officer smiled.

"Thank you sir." Daniel smiled. Now his main problem is solved.

"No need, young man." The police officer waved it off. It's their job.

"So you'll be staying here." On the side lines, Kiana asked curiously.

Daniel turned around to look at her. Although she was a brat, she did help him and didn't ask for anything. Plus, he also knows her tragedy in the story.

'Why am I even thinking about this?' Daniel massaged his temple.

"Yep, not like I could do anything about it." He shrugged helplessly.

"I guess this is where we part ways." Hearing that, Kiana's eyes softened before turning around to leave.

"... Thanks, if you need help. You can find me here." He doesn't have a phone but this station should be enough for them to communicate.

"Hmph, who needs your help? You're the one who's lost here." Kiana snorted and opened the door.

"Says the one who reads maps upside down." Daniel rolled his eyes.

Kiana almost tripped but quickly stabilized herself before firing another glare at him and walked away.

"So you're not a couple?" The police officer asked, confused.

"No."

"NO!"

Somehow, Kiana managed to hear it outside the door.

"Tough luck." Currently sitting on the station's couch, Daniel sighed.

It's been a few hours since he woke up in this world and just like always,  he's doubting his life choices.

It's not his choice this time though. Ignoring his own complete lack of knowledge, the ones he remembers is enough to give him a migraine.

He should be sleeping instead of thinking about these kinds of things but he just couldn't help it. He hopes that this is just a dream but judging by how he's been here for hours and got punched, it's pretty clear that this is reality.

"What to do now." Daniel muttered. Putting accommodations aside, he remembers that Nagazora City would be destroyed sooner or later and as much as he wants to stop it, he doesn't seem to possess any cheat or golden finger that would give him such capabilities.

"Those fanfictions were a lie." He shook his head. For some reason, he wasn't angry that it was the case.

"How to stop it..." Daniel continued his muttering. Whether he likes it or not, he's pretty much stuck in his city, no money and no identity doesn't give him much options.

The only problem is that this city will be destroyed soon and if he can't prevent it, he'll prob— no, he will definitely die.

Putting aside the destruction of the entire city, the radiation of Honkai energy would have made his fate worse than death. He didn't think he has an immense resistance to Honkai energy so it's already luck if he just got turned into a zombie and not outright died.

Such is the misfortune of men in this world.

That and straight couples.

"Seems like you're in deep thought." He heard the police officer's voice.

"Sorry about that, Kazuya-san." Daniel immediately straightened up his body. He was wondering if he needs to add Mr. or san but just picked the latter since they are in the East.

"Why? In your situation, I'm surprised you're not having a breakdown." The police officer named Kazuya handed him a coffee.

He looked at the coffee for a moment before reluctantly taking it.

"Don't worry, I didn't put anything on it." Seeing his expression, Kazuya chuckled.

"Oh it's not—"

"It's fine."

"Sorry…" Daniel took a look before drinking it.

That's pretty sweet.

"So what are your plans now?" The officer asked before he took a drink of his own coffee.

"I'm not sure…" Daniel replied.

"Well don't think too much of it. In a few days, we will be able to find news related to your home." Kazuya patted him on the shoulder.

"I suggest you rest now. Although you hide it well, I can tell that you're exhausted." Kazuya left after saying that.

Hearing him, he took his advice and drank the coffee.

Weird, he was supposed to rest but drank coffee?

"Well, just in case I need to stay up late."

After finishing the coffee, he laid down in order to take a rest just like what Kazuya said.

Not long after, his mind drifted into unconsciousness.

"Hey kid. Wake up." Hearing the familiar voice. Daniel immediately opened his eyes and sat down.

'Not a dream.' Seeing the same police station, he yawned before looking at his watch.

'0600H.'

"Hey kid," He saw Kazuya waving his hand in front of his face.

"Sorry about that. Do I have a job now?" Daniel immediately stood up and asked.

"Very eager huh? I contacted my superior earlier and I vouched for you to work as a community service crew." Kazuya explained.

"That's enough!" Daniel beamed after hearing that, "Can I also borrow some books about your language?" He added sheepishly.

"Japanese? Sure. We have books in the drawer." Kazuya was confused for a moment but agreed. Dictionaries and other language related books aren't really weird for them. They are police after all.

"Thank you Kazuya-san." Daniel bowed.

"Don't think much of it." Kazuya smiled, "By the way, I'll be leaving for now. I have to take my daughter to school."

"You have a daughter?" Daniel asked.

"Yes but don't worry, my partner should be here later. You may not be able to meet since your shift would start soon." Kazuya looked at the wall clock.

"Wait, now?!" Daniel widened his eyes. That's fast!

"I told my superior about your situation. He said that you probably need money as soon as possible so he immediately put you at work." That makes sense.

"I left a note on the desk, the equipment and the places you'll be cleaning are there."

"Don't worry, I'll definitely get it done." Daniel assured him.

"Well, good bye now kid. I'll see you later." With that, Kazuya left. Leaving him by himself.

"Well, I should start as soon as possible."
