14 Rescue(12)

Johnathan closed his eyes and focused on his new 'organ'. Drawing out the 'breeze'- more commonly known as mana- if the black ping-pong-sized core, something magnificent happened.

The world around him went gray.

Once this happened, the leaves that fell from the trees, stopped. Turning to his right he saw that not only the leaves, but everything stopped. Including his two friends, playing with their own abilities. Johnathan smiled at what happened as he didn't need to be a genius to figure out what was happening.

Time had stopped.

However before he could celebrate, the gray disappeared and the world went back to normal. Johnathan was about to get up and tell his friends, but once he tried, he fell to the ground. Making a loud thud, Johnathan's friends quickly stopped what they were doing and ran towards him, afraid that something happened to Johnathan.

Getting to him, Ivan asked what happened and if he was okay. Johnathan chuckling a little explained, what he thought was 'energy deficiency'.

"What's that supposed to mean"

"You know the little core that formed after we absorbed the 'breeze'. That 'breeze' was most likely some type of energy. Once I drew out the energy, I awoke my ability. But after constantly pouring energy into the ability, I ran out of the said energy. Which led me to fall" Hearing Ivan's question, Johnathan started explaining.

"So you overused your ability. What is it anyways"

"I'll tell you after you and Ivan tell me yours. I saw it for a brief second but I fell to the ground quickly after"

Sighing, the two started sharing their abilities. Up first was Ivan. Stepping backward, he started to use the 'breeze' or mana to conjure his ability. Not waiting long, the other two stared in awe as blue lighting started crackling on his hand. It was truly a sight to see. Something that would've never been possible if not for this apocalypse.

"My abilities lightning"

Johnathan stared at his friend's hand summoning lighting. Though his power, if trained well, was technically stronger. Who wouldn't want to throw lighting like a certain Greek god? But he didn't let jealousy take over, he easily shoved it back and thought about how strong his ability was. Only stopping time was strong as is but if he could manipulate it, he would be unstoppable. But that was for the future.

Turning towards Danny, he asked to "Show the ability". Laughing, Danny stepped backward as he transformed his arm into a black and red demonic one with sharp claws. It definitely wasn't as strong as stopping time, or as showy as lightning, but it was strong nonetheless.

"As you guys can see I can turn my arm into a demonic one. When I do this, not only does my strength increase, I also feel like I could easily cut a zombie to pieces with my claws"

Watching the wide smiles on their faces as they stared at their powers, made Johnathan happy. This was something that could distract them from the horror story they were living. And if they had this power, they would most definitely be able to save their loved ones.

"Your turn Johnathan"

Johnathan hearing Danny tell him to hurry it up, made him try and draw out the 'breeze'. But when he tried he realized he barely had anything left. And instinctively, he knew that it was not enough to demonstrate his ability.

"I don't have enough of the 'energy' to use it. Let me absorb the 'breeze' real quick"

"Okay, but can we agree to call it mana. What we're using is basically that. Enough with the 'breeze'. It sounds weird"

Johnathan and Ivan chuckled at Danny's thoughts, but they agreed nonetheless. Calling it mana was a lot more fantastical than calling it 'breeze'. So after agreeing to call it mana, Johnathan sat down, cross-legged, and started absorbing said energy.

The absorption was way slower than before, but he could feel his core filling up.

After absorbing the mana in the air for twenty minutes, Johnathan finally opened his eyes. Once they were opened the sight of his two friends playing with their newfound powers, greeted him. Watching as Ivan was shooting lightning from his fingers-albeit not too far- and Danny slicing away at a tree nearby, Johnathan got up and called out to them.

"Guys, I'm ready"

Hearing that Johnathan was ready, the other two stopped what they were doing and made their way towards him. It took twenty minutes for Johnathan to refill his core, and for seventeen of those minutes, the two were waiting patiently. So with that said, the two still had mana left in their cores, and haven't run out.

"Let's see what it is"

As soon as Ivan said that, Johnathan drew out the mana from his core and activated his ability. The world turned gray for Johnathan. As soon as it activated Johnathan started sprinting to Danny who had been a meter away from him. Getting to him he hit him. As his fist connected with Danny's stomach, the gray world disappeared and time started flowing like normal.

"Argh"

Danny had flown back a couple of meters, which surprised him and Ivan. What could've been his power? They were confused. Not even a second ago he was a meter or so away from them but he disappeared and appeared where Danny was standing. But after thinking about it for a second, Ivan figured it out.

"Teleportation"

Or so Ivan thought. But Johnathan laughed aloud before explaining his actual power.

"No, it's time. I stopped time before running as fast as I could to Danny and hit him in the stomach before releasing my ability"

"Wow"

Ivan saw in awe as he stared at one of his closest friends. He was shocked that Johnathan had gotten such a strong power. Sure, lightning was incredibly powerful if he used it right. But time was something incredibly overpowered.

"How long can you stop time for"

Ivan was curious. If Johnathan could stop time for a minute, no one could ever even touch him. Even if his opponent managed to get close to him, Johnathan could just stop time and evade the attack and even counter it.

"If I use all my mana, I could stop time for about two seconds, but If I want to save enough to use it multiple times, I would have to stop time for half a second or less. But It takes way too long to refill my reserves. If I were to use four in a fight and not beat my opponent, I would 100% not be able to fight back afterward"

Johnathan's power as of right now-though was still powerful-was far from being as overpowered as it could be. First of all, If Johnathan wanted to attack someone who was not fast enough to travel far distances to hit his opponent, with only half a second or less, he would only be able to get so far. The defense however was something he thought would be his strong point. Half a second was definitely long enough to evade something like a punch and even projectiles. But once again, it had its flaws. One being that stopping time took some time to activate and evading the attack depended on him being able to react fast enough to the attack and activate his power. The second flaw is the width of an attack.

If the attack was wider than he could run in that time frame, Johnathan would still be hit by it. Though he would be able to lessen the injury, he would still get injured nonetheless.

"That's still strong though. How long did you stop time for though"

Turning to Danny, who had already recovered and asked the question, Johnathan answered, "I Stopped time for half a second. If I were to stop time again for that long, I would tire out with three more uses"

Danny nodded his head as he began to think of ways Johnathan could use it. "That's cool. but fuck you guys! Why did I have to get a simple transformation power? I can't do anything against stopping time or even lightning"

Ivan laughed alongside Johnathan but after a minute of getting it out of their system, Ivan asked why Danny would need to do anything against their powers.

"It's not like we would fight each other. We're in this together till the end boys. No need to be jealous. But if we think about it, Danny you have better attack power than Johnathan and even me for now. If we were all to fight right now, you would win due to how simple your ability is. I doubt your mana depletes as fast as mine and Johnathan's when we use his abilities"

Thinking it over, Danny agreed. His power didn't absorb much mana at all. It only took around a quarter of his mana to activate his transformation but once he did, mana wouldn't be absorbed anymore. Plus, he had a feeling that he would be able to transform his whole body, giving him even more strength.

Smiling, Danny nodded his head in agreement.

"Anyways, we should recover the mana we all spent. It's going to get dark soon, and we're going to need our powers to be able to save my brother and escape the hordes of zombies"

With that said the three sat on the ground and started absorbing the mana to refill their cores. Five minutes later, the three got up refreshed. It took them fast to recover their mana because they barely spent any. Ivan had only wasted a little more than a quarter of his mana on five shots of lightning, while Danny spent the same amount on his transformation.

Once their cores were filled up, they stood up from the ground were about to make their way towards the fence. But before they did, Johnathan looked to his left-where they escaped from- and noticed that the zombies weren't there anymore.

Knowing that they had backed away from the fence made Johnathan sigh. If they were still at the fence, getting on the roof would go much easier. But because they probably went back to their original places, sneaking onto the roof would most definitely become a challenge.

AN: I hope you guys like his power. It's a little OP and you guys might think that the others will be a lot weaker than Johnathan, but I have things planned out for them. Plus, Johnathan won't become too OP that quickly. After all, it's only been a couple of hours.

- Some may have noticed but their cores are black. Meaning I will have some sort of color system to base their strengths on.
